I did this to make traols through some overgrown property. I used an old electric walmart brand , and pulled the blades off and redesigned them a little as I made all of the surfaces into cutting surfaces. it goes through weeds and all very quickly

You should've bought a brushcutter instead, easier and better to use, and can take down much much bigger stuff, this was a alternative to hedge trimmer not the main use of one. just so you know. ;)

@@Sigurd651……. One good thing about a hedge trimmer is that it’s hand held and you don’t need smooth ground …. I’m tackling the terribly overgrown sides of my driveway, which have mounds of dirt, sod and rocks due to a new driveway that was put in and widened. A brush hog would never get over the mess that’s there right now. I have to remove it all with a hedge trimmer so I can see the sod and rock to be able to utilize a skid steer and get to work on it so I can see what I’m doing as I’m going.

All the comments about brush blades... have they ever tried one on weed forests like this? That little round peanut blade compared to a big cutting bar, no comparison. Ever see a farmer cutting hay with a little round mower? A sickle bar is a giant hedge trimmer. Ya, you could do a walk behind, but unless it's self propelled and there are no logs and rocks that's not so great either, and they are totally heavy and awkward, are you going to carry one around with you? I have a walk behind weed wacker, but it is not much good on rough ground. And all the complaining about back problems, get some exercise. As he said, there are hedge trimmers made to attach to weed wackers so you don't bend over. So Wyatt is correct, and this is a good idea. And hedge trimmers are inherently safer, they are not bothered by large objects, and don't damage trees or slice up little dogs.

I use a dewalt hedge trimmer to trim my blackberries. Haven't had any problems.

Hi people, if you do this careful,⚠⚠ as I got tired I took like a lunge position, and came close to my foot a few times. Wear some steel toe boots, and if you get tired take a good break. I also wore knee pads, and that will give you a safe position if you are kneeling. Works great though: I used a 40 v Ryobi.

hahaha... hell yea.. getting it done. Honestly if you do a lot of brush cutting I would just get a brush cutter. For weeds like this you probably want a star blade or something. For thicker bramble and woody weeds a saw blade. Cool that your Stihl trimmers are that old i bet they have a lot of hours on them!

@@levelup843 What chemical should I buy to kill the roots and would like to lay some black plastic over the big area which I would think help kill them from lack of sun and water huh? Want to lay it over the area also so my cats that go in that area don't get sick or killed if they some how lick it off their paws. Would be great if there is something that hooks up to the garden hose so I can spray the whole area and kill every thing. So if is please let me know. I hired a guy to whack every thing out but I had to like you said get after several spots again with my weed whacker and pruning clippers.

If you don't have a weed wacker with a brush cutting head a heavy weed whacking head or a junk push mower or something you don't want to tear up so much and you got a headsaw it's like a sickle bar mower just handheld it works go for it I've done it not as much as that one did just my opinion how to find a faster way to do that but I've done it on grass to try it out and it works just great

I had to finish a entire lawn with hedge trimmers when my lawnmower dead on me, It took me a bit longer but it got the job done. Now I don't go on a lawn job with out one on standby.😏

Fuck yes. No more grass stalks getting in the way of your trimmer blade and tangling around the head. No more constant sharpening and replacing @ $20 a pop those tiny 10" brush blades that wear their teeth down to metal knobs every time you so much as graze a rock. No more slow rolling away each field in little 5" BS swaths that hardly utilize any of the engines power. Finally something with an actual failsafe against cutting up the good trees while your trimming away the scrub and weeds. Thank you for being one of the few channels to actually go HAM with one of these hedge trimmers in a realistic scenario to test and show what else they are capable of besides obviously cleaning up hedges. Those "mouth move make word noises" soy boys like Copper Creek Cuts left me doubtful, but now im definitely going to try using a hedge trimmer attachment on my FS-240 as substitute for yet another one of those tedious and useless brush blades.

Would this be a good way to remove large tangles of invasive vines? We've got acres of it and the loppers and reciprocating saw won't do it. (Unless you cut right at the base, the vines just move with the saw and don't get cut. Plus, can't even find the bases of the vines inside the giant tangles.)

Yes! I worked at it today and after many other approaches, found this to be the absolute best. I will need to lop or saw the very largest - but with the Kobalt battery operated hedge trimmers I am able to work my way to the base to get to the massive root type vines where it all begins.
