The university is good and the town is the birthplace of Audi. Getting a job depends on your individual skills and the job market, which can’t be predicted 3-4 years in advance.

People don't stare! They look at you with interest. Big difference. Calling it staring is pretty rude and display complete ignorance towards your host culture.

You can’t take his subjective experience away. If he feels like he’s being stared at, you telling him not to feel that way doesn’t change his opinion - it just makes him not want to express it, and that is unhelpful to his fellow Americans who might undergo the same feelings and opinion, valid or not.

@@AdmissionJobandLifeinGermany I think it's more helpful to understand what's happening and explain or describe it than to judge it. "Staring" is a judgement and completely biasing his "fellow Americans" before they even have the slightest chance to try to understand german culture in their own way. As a German I can explain or describe Americans by saying they like to small talk or I can judge them by saying they are obtrusive, all the time, you can't escape it, it's shocking, it's scary. ;) Btw, the culture of people watching is even more expressive in France, Italy and Spain, so it's not a german thing per se.

I’ll give you that :) But he does go on to explain the staring and mentions that other German friends of his explained it to him that they also get “stared” at, and that he’s pretty much used to it by now. I know that he didn’t want to offend someone, and I hope it’ll be taken in the jest-like way that it was meant in :)
