Knowing that was James Stewart's last role really does make his final lines more beautiful and impactful; it's like he was saying goodbye to his fans...

So Don Bluth had nothing to do with any sequels to any of his films and hates all sequels to his films.

Fun Fact: One of the directors of this movie, Phil Nibblink, was an animator on Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective! 😎 Keep that in mind when you watch this movie, and you’ll begin to understand the mindset of those who love this movie like I do! 🥰

Interesting considering how The Great Mouse Detective was made in response to An American Tale 🤔.

Despite not having Don Bluths hand in it....the sequel was nice and a fitting farewell to a legend that id Jimmy Stuart who wanted to play a cowboy and the final scene was beautiful and glad gave Tanya and Tiger more bigger role! Also she is played by Cathy Cavadini AkA Blossom of the PPG! She and the rest of the ppg are going to c2e2 and im gonna meet them!! She can sing nicely and the animation is more crisp and clean so to speak, i liked all 4 films but 1 and 3 the most, the animated series was meh! Love John Cleese

series was decent only because it was only 13 episodes. But they outsourced it to Wang Film Production which was a rather average studio for tv animation. One reason All Dogs Go to Heaven TV series leaves a lot to be desired. At least they maintained the good character design. While the third American Tail film was sent to TMS which was one of the best Japanese studios and had some very good animated moments. 4rth film was average too, outsourced to Tama, which was a little better than Wang.

I remember seeing a concept art labeled in '86 that was a poster pitch for a potential sequel while Bluth was working in between American Tail and Land Before Time. Titled "An American Tail II: Fievel-San" and would've had the mouse family move to Japan and instead of a cowboy theme, it would be a samurai themed sequel. Many characters that weren't in the original would've returned, including Warren T Rat (who traveled to Hong Kong at the end of the original film.) Instead of Wille E Burp, it would be a old wise sensei, and there would've been a little human girl and white Maltese dog. Honestly... I'm kinda glad we got Fievel Goes West. A samurai sequel still would've taken away the original's gritty tone by having Fievel do flips to Ninja cats. Also, nothing against Don Bluth whatsoever, but the second film's animation is arguably better than the original's, so you wouldn't have had that same fluid animation or movements or angles.

You ain’t kidding with growth spurts being weird. Had a classmate from middle to high school named Willy who never came up taller than my chest. A few years after we both graduated I saw him in the Walmart I was working at the time and he now comes up to my forehead at least

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but that version of the Rawhide song used in Fievel Goes West was the cover from The Blue Brothers, which adds another layer to Doug's joke about it being sung by the Good Ole Boys.

Surprised you’re reacting to this before reacting to Doug’s review of the original American Tail. Still excited to see this though. The first of only 3, yep only 3 films produced by the Amblimation, the short lived animation division of Amblin Entertainment, Steven Spielberg’s production company. Lasting from 1989 to 1997, they also produced two other films, 1993’s We’re Back, A Dinosaur’s Story, and the 1995 cult favorite, Balto. After all of them, with the exception of Fievel Goes West, flopped at the box office, the division would be folded into the the then newly formed DreamWorks Animation.

I had the same experience of watching this film first and then eventually watching the original. I like them both, probably for different reasons, they're very different films. Heck, I even think that the first midquel (the Treasure of Manhattan Island) has some decent commentary as well, probably even more than this film. Hope you have a good day!

I love this movie! 🥰 It’s one of my favorite childhood movies and I still love it as an adult! The animation (despite being more cartoonish than it’s predecessor) is still amazing for the time it was made! Critic needs to dial back his rose-tinted view of the first movie, because he was very obviously biased against this movie!

I remember seeing this movie in a small movie theater in Phoenix, Arizona with my dad, brother and grandpa and all four of us laughing our asses off (according to my folks my grandpa really liked this movie). My grandparents bought my siblings and I a copy of the movie on VHS for Christmas later that year and I also remember showing my childhood friends this movie and all of us laughed at "The lazy eye" joke.

So, to be fair, I don’t know which sequel but one of the American Tail sequels (the one with Native American mice? I have no clue😂) it’s implied that this entire movie was just a dream. Maybe that’s why Fivel was able to do just stupid crap like screwing with the hat. It’s the one time dream theory has an actually working in a franchise I guess.

I watched the sequel first on cinema and loved it. I watch the original much later and unfortunately they butchered it with the dialogue additions and the cut aspect ratio. Fievel goes west was also 4x3 on cinema originally I think, like the first dvd release but they cropped it too
