We went to Ubud about 25 years ago. Bali is a magical place. We hired a guy to drive us around for a couple of days at about $20/day. We didn’t get kidnapped but one day, on a backroad, we got stopped by a police officer and had to pay a bribe to continue. The driver was really apologetic and embarrassed at the situation.

Dan, hope you read my email I have been here in Bali for 2 years now. I have never sensed danger or seen any crime ever. Rare here. Belief in Karma is real here and they are genuinely kind, sweet people. I've been all over the island and love it. You never leave the jungle. There are no areas that are not green. Beaches are okay but the mountain areas are jaw dropingly beautiful. Food, comparable to Thailand. But its the people. Always ready to smile and ask you where you're from. The only place I have met as nice or nicer is Fiji. Thailand a close 3rd. Look foreward to hearing back from you Dan. I commented on your other Bali vid too.

I find it interesting that all of us guys that are in the process of retiring or already retired are meeting up with all of our long-time friends all around the world. When I was a kid, the parents would visit friends in different states. It seems much larger now and not such a big deal to meet up in a different country.

I've seen a few Americans travel, and one thing I've particularly noticed is the amount of luggage they brought with them. Attachment issues perhaps? And riding scooters... cautious about ones abilities... you may have freedom, doesn't mean you should abuse it. Get an international license if you feel you must, but insurance maybe compromised, perhaps. Just leaving a post to help your algorithms.

Do you have to book a rountrip ticket before entering an Asian country? Thanks.
@VagabondAwake
@VagabondAwake Жыл бұрын
Great question Phuong Cao, As you have probably heard we almost never buy round trip tickets. We move forward slow traveling the world. But some countries require a return ticket or onward flight. But the rules change all the time so don't assume what I am about to tell you is true for any airline or country. You have to check the night before. But is they require a return ticker or onward flight, here is what we do. If so, when you try to board your flight going to the country, with a one-way ticket, the airline will ask for proof of a return flight or an onward flight. We handle this three possible ways. If you can find a refundable ticket a few hours before you board your flight, buy that, and cancel after you clear customs at your destination. If not, buy an onward flight from one of the online companies that offer onward flights. They cost about $12 USD. Just Google the words "Onward Flights" and a few will pop up. But if you decide to buy the $12 onward flight, show up at the airport 3 hours early. We had one refused by the airline once. So that brings up the third way. When your $12 onward flight is refused, step out of line, and log on with your computer or smartphone and buy the cheapest flight you can find exiting the country. For example, we search online for the cheapest ticket to a nearby country, leaving that country. Then you lose much less money than you would if you bought a roundtrip ticket to your home country. Skyscanner is the best place to find cheap tickets in our experience. Some countries will also let you buy an onward train or bus ticket to another country which can be even cheaper. Use RometoRio.com to find those. Best, Dan

Depends which part of South East Asia. I'm sure you've got your wits about you. Best advice I can give is wear local attire, it shows you're trying to blend in...to be one. Good luck with your travels... PS the biggest concern in traveling is yourself... don't drink n ride scooter... but if ya do, keep the power on, it helps with balance. Lol

@@peterlattimore6013 thank you bud! I am actually well traveled and try to make a joke. I agree to most of your suggestions such as I don’t drive scooter.. But not sure if I want to blend in with my clothes and look like all those young Thai girls. I am more on the other end cover myself mainly protection of sun exposure,.
