Roots and Refuge Farm

Күн бұрын

Hey ya'll, I'm Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you'll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart - to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you're here.

My now 11yr old(just this week), has helped me in the garden for years. I can't say he loves it tho. He always is excited to see the seedlings sprout, but it doesn't last long. This week he has been making sure to run his hand lightly over the seedlings(onions & herbs) and he says "Aww happy birthday little guys!" I'm pretty sure you won him over!! 😂😂

I absolutely love that you talk about not having that animal for a season, or having to take a step back for a time, even though you feel it's the right thing to do. A lot of people struggle with that, in my opinion. For me, we've raised our own poultry for meat, but this year, we have to take a step back from meat. It sucks, but it's the right thing to do. It feels right. I feel peace with this decision, no matter how hard

You really did the right thing by giving your goats to good homes when it was not the time of your life to be taking goats on and now you really took your time you got ready first you made sure you were ready the land and the right goats and thank you for showing people how that’s OK. You set a fine example healthy example And reminding us of the same thank you.

Enjoying your video, as I always do...but when you walked over to the fence to talk to your brother in law, I heard my absolute favorite spring sound in the background...PEEPERS!!! I love listening to peepers when the plants and trees and animals all wake up from a long winter. I live in farm country in Western NY (zone 5b) and at the moment we still have snow on the ground, and I have spring fever really bad, so hearing the peepers in your video warms my heart! 🐸🥰 I can't wait for spring!

It's going to be exciting to see you with goats again :-) Since you'rethinking of not running power to the goat yard, how about some solar application for lights? Solar LED motion detector lights have proved useful for my yard to keep track of my dog, and could supplement interior lighting when you need it. (Maybe Will could collect some of that sheep hair for mulch - supposed to be good in the garden)

I'm excited for the goats! Have to say it's been hard to relate to your content since the move :( I have just a little under an acre yard on the outskirts of town so while it's neat to see large scale, I just can't relate to it. Even goats is probably too much for the space we have but it's way more attainable than a lot of other things you're doing with the space you have now.

We have a cat named Knox. Knox Knoxes things off - especially seed packets. They make great noises. Also. Fun fact, my younger son’s first word other than mommommom (which had more to do with nursing than me) was kitty. Grandma and Grandpa went on a long vacation right at his first birthday. He was so excited to see them that he shouted “Kitty!” when they came back. Fast forward many years, he’s still a cat guy.

Mushrooms can be scary, I don't eat any that I am not 100% sure I know what they are. That's not a big list, but their are some you don't want to eat on accident. It's messed up that according to reports of those that have eaten some pretty deadly mushrooms that they can even taste wonderful. You'd think they'd have the decency to taste bad so you spit them out and not eat them.
