I am so envious of the exquisite and fabulous adventures that you take - the wild beauty of the southern oceans, the simple practicality of sailing a capable vessel to the next destination, the unutterably magnificent places you visit, the wildlife that you meet - it actually hurts me to the core. Make no mistake, I'm so happy for you and your ship mates that you are living this. Then again, something in my core needs this as well...I can't tell you how many sleep-dreams I've had of what you are doing and experiencing. I want this to be me in the video.

Those whale encounters are magical experiences and I'm glad you had some a long contact with this Minke whale! I've encountered dozens of humpback whales, Dall's porpoise, and Orca while on my sailboat here in Southeast Alaska, and the curiosity these cetaceans exhibit rivals our own at times. I believe that those whales that use echolocation for navigation have literal 3D maps of the bathymetric contours of inlets and fjords memorized, just like humans memorize streets and landmarks by being able to 'see' them with our eyes. Last year, while on a 250 mile sailing trip here, I saw over 20 humpbacks in one day, all within 10 miles of each other. It's said that Fin whales can send their vocalizations up to 13,000 miles underwater. This is a really good documentary on the whales and how they can be tracked for miles underwater by listening for their vocalizations: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2XdeIWBl9OJnpo

I was naming how the whale was jumping and showing off after skateboard tricks. When he comes straight up but lands on his back, that's a "Pogo 180." When he twirls underwater, its a "360"...but he did 3 twirls underwater which is a "triple 360!" Start coming up with names for their acrobatics because I honestly feel they connect with people and can feel your energy. I give him a 10 out of 10 on the Triple 360. I'm hoping to see a Triple Lundy soon!

1. Each vessel should be fully self-sufficient and carry all necessary food, water, fuel, safety kit, spares, medical kit and experienced staff on board. 2. However there is a back-up in form of other vessels as well, if worse comes to worse. Pelagic Expeditions is part of IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators) and all IAATO vessels agreed to help each other in case of an emergency. There are surprisingly many yachts and expedition cruise ships in and around Antarctica nowadays.

Hey, guys! Play some music down in the bilges and see what the whale's reaction or response is? LOL After you get this MSG well after the fact!!! As a lay person I have experimented with various livestock and the behavioural responses are both consistent and very positive. Perhaps it left not because of waning interest in Pelagic and its crew, but because of a lack of a meaningful response, though I am sure that the human presence and chatter would have been interpreted positively. I wrote too soon! *chuckles* Pity the ambient temp was so cold.
