I have gross hematuria due to kidney stones and having stents put in both kidneys because I have stones in both kidneys. I was hospitalized about a month ago because one of the stones got stuck in the ureter causing a blockage and an infection which led to sepsis. I was told if I waited 12 more hours I wouldn’t be here today. It was a real scary situation that changed my life quite a bit. I have to go for surgery to get the stones taken out I hope I will be okay!

Thanks! My mother has had hematuria for over a year. Her presumptive diagnosis has been “blood thinners” and although she’s on Apixiban (which does not require INR), I’ve told her that isn’t a diagnosis unless they actually prove that her INR is supratherapeutic. Anyhow, I forwarded your video to her so she can see that blood thinners isn’t even in your differential. Hoping she’ll seek a second opinion.

Six months ago I had a UTI with a little visible blood and antibiotics cleared it all up. But due to my senior status they did an in office scope and also got a ct scan. Both showed thickened walls with inflamed looking veins. So the dr prescribed more antibiotics and said lets look at it again in 6 months. Just so happens I passed more blood right before my appt. So he scheduled another scope this time in the hospital for a biopsy. Many years ago my liver enzymes went out the roof and I was diagnosed with an autoimmune problem and prednisone cleared it up. My urologist said it could be something similar with my bladder but cancer is always possible. So in a couple of weeks I get to go through this ordeal. I hope it's not the big C.

@@Mr_3raqi It ended up being cancer but a 'low grade' type that was non-invasive. I received 6 weeks of BCG Imunnothearpy which is supposed to be highly effective with this type of cancer. I've had 2 scopes since and both look clear of the cancer. So hopefully no more treatments but will have many more scopes for observation purposes over the next few years. But my urologist feels good about my case and I feel very fortunate to this point too. Thanks for asking.

I have had microscopic hematuria for decades. It comes and goes and they have never found a cause for it. My new Urologist wants to possibly do another cystoscopy since it's been 15+ years since my last one. I really don't want to have that again because my first urologist was an asshole and it hurt.

Gross hematuria is an understatement of what I have. I pee big clots of what I've been told is coagulated blood but it looks more like chunks of my kidney....very meaty. I do have kidney cancer and I've had an embolization on my kidney to stop the bleeding but it's made everything much worse .

I had that and was passing kidneystones. When I adhered to a strict plant based diet with no coffee or tea and a gallon of distilled water a day it all went away. Fresh green coconut water eased the cold sweats and spasms. No more pain.

Scenario question for you.. (I come across this quite a bit.) Patients who present to urgent care for UTI symptoms, UA looks like a UTI, but then culture comes back negative... I'm understanding that at that point you would look at the patient's risk factors to determine whether they need cyscoscopy. Would bring a 45 year old female be enough of a risk factor? (Age) If not, what about a 45-year-old female who has had pelvic irradiation (xrays of her hips)? A male with no other risk factors? Thanks in advance!
