An Audible Experience of Senile Dementia: Early Stage Alzheimer's: The early stage of Alzheimer's is the longest stage of Alzheimer's as changes in the brain begin 10-15 years before the first symptoms, so for convenience we start this album shortly before diagnosis. The early stage of Alzheimer's disease includes the self realization that something is wrong, the diagnosis, and the refusal to accept the diagnosis. For the most part memories are clear, with warm and familiar feelings. Memories will vary in quality which is demonstrated with the presence of record static. More static = more deteriorated memory. Less static= Less deteriorated memory. Generally the mood is lower in this stage which is represented by the slowing down of original samples, projecting the feeling of emptiness and hopelessness. Later in the stage memories begin to further deteriorate and the mood quickly changes. This stage marks the end of the patient's golden years, the glory of living a ripe old age shifting to horror and confusion. Middle Stage Alzheimer's: The middle stage of Alzheimer's is where the most change in the brain of a patient is seen, violent mood swings and episodes of deep confusion are present here. This stage is where the patient breaks down, the pillars of their personality crumbling. The memories of loved ones vanishing. The music screams at you with sharp transitions and deafening echoes, overlapping and distorting beyond recognition. As the stage progresses the music begins to fold and melt together. Late Stage Alzheimer's: The late stage of Alzheimer's is brought with constant confusion and strange behaviors. At this point the patient's ability to speak coherently is heavily disrupted, often leading to erratic unintelligible rambling. As they progress through this stage, speech will deteriorate so heavily that they may not speak at all. Often locomotion will deteriorate as well, leaving the patient bedridden. What used to be recognized as music has fused together into an ungodly amalgamation, screaming in agony. End Stage Alzheimer's: The end stage of Alzheimer's is the final and shortest stage a patient will go through. The patient cannot communicate, and all relationships with the patient are one sided. Bodily functions gradually shut down, eventually leading to the death of the patient. This stage is very calm, but isn't calm because everything is fine, it's calm because there is nothing left to destroy. There is no final hurrah for the patient, simply a quiet whimper to death. Part 1: Shattering News of Horror The first part in this album begins with the last slivers of the glory of old age passing and then the realization of something wrong. Soon after the diagnosis follows which most often pushes the patient into a depression. Overall memory quality is lower than it usually would be and near the end of this part denial begins to follow which leads us to part two. Part 2: Efforts Made for The Future of You Denial takes hold giving the patient glimpses of false hope, memory quality begins to slowly worsen and efforts to remember are heavily increased. Light confusions may take hold. Life for the patient is still relatively normal but they may become easily stressed out about something due to their current condition. Part 3: Why Won't You Just Surrender? Memories turn from watching an old family film or experiencing something like it was yesterday to being alone in your room looking at old family photographs. Alzheimer's disease begins to become a normal part of life for both the patient and their family. This part is like the feeling you get when you're looking for something that you swear you just had a moment ago. Something is definitely gone, and you feel like you know where it could be. But no matter how hard you look you won't find what's missing. The album cover is an empty microphone holder. Part 4: First Signs of Bewildering Memories Here some memories will start to lose their meaning, they'll still have the same mood, but something just feels wrong about it. Meanwhile in the patient's brain, enough neurons have been killed off to where being confused happens more often. These confusions may be more severe than the previous confusions. The patient is most definitely not themselves anymore, and their personality has very noticeable changes. The album cover is the front of a toy train without its wheels. Part 5: Pieces of Self Burn and Burn By this point it becomes more than clear that Alzheimer's disease is more than just memory loss. It isn't simply just taking away memories, it's also taking away the patient's ability to correctly judge things, and also their way of expressing themselves. Memories begin to distort further and tangle with themselves, they also more heavily overlap each other. The mood may suddenly shift from happy to sad or from good to bad, by this point the mood of the patient can no longer be easily predicted like previous parts. The album cover is the patient surrounded in a sea of fog. Part 6: Confusion Unraveling Memories more heavily overlap and tangle, and the last moments of truly being able to recall something as if it happened yesterday pass. The mood more suddenly shifts as well. By this part most meaning behind memories and why they're important to remember fade away and most memories in this part just have a feeling of wrongness. The last moments of pure emotion burn away as our patient begins to lose awareness of their condition, finally forcing them to accept what's happening. The album cover is a gramophone, the needle and supporter of which now being made of twigs, the horn itself being hollow, and missing a base. this was honestly one of the darkest projects ive ever heard, the post awareness is extremly creative, instead of getting chaotic, it slowly gets quieter and duller eventually leading into the void that is end stage, and I dont need to mention that this is one of the rare projects that doesent have TL, the only ones i can think of are ERD and APMC. TLDR: W project it was so good it made me pregnant

man the song descriptions are just so depressing to imagine someone go through it all, knowing there is no way out. no way back home, no way back to reality. as though someones who life, all the decades they experienced, all the things they have learned, how much things have changed....all of it, turned to dust and disappears. as though it was all just a dream. a dream that slowly transitions to a nightmare. I was talking to my friends about such a delirious state of consciousness and how this truly is such a terrifying prospect, one that is uniquely human. we see animals as below us, as though something about humanity is significant when compared to how animals live. but when someone is deep in the throws of dementia, they are less than even that. at least an animals knows what is what, what food is, what their family is and what home is like. not for someone who's been swallowed by that endless void.

EARLY STAGE Part 1: EARLY CLINICAL STAGE 3 “I don’t know what’s happening to me… I’m off in a way I cannot describe.” Clinical stage 3 opens with relative unease, they knew something was wrong with their memory but passed it off. Eventually the growing anxiety becomes too much and he gets checked out. He revives a tentative early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. Part 2: EARLY CLINICAL STAGE 3 “This can’t be right, can it? After all, it’s only a possibility. Things will be alright, they will.” Denial creeps in after the initial shock, leaving him in a happy delusion of normality. Anything that goes wrong is just old age to him, sure he may not be as sharp as his friends but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong. There is every possibility he is right, and every possibility he is wrong. PART 3: MID CLINICAL STAGE 3 “I don’t want to talk, I don’t have the energy. Get out of here.” Denial no longer works as well, if at all due to impairments continuously creeping into daily life. This sends him spiraling. He becomes increasingly reclusive and disinterested in the outside world. He’d do anything for a break from this hell. PART 4: LATE CLINICAL STAGE 3 “Leave me alone, or don’t. It won’t matter, we’ll all end up dead anyways.” The final embers of previous denial are torn away as at this point nearly everything is affected. Even if it’s just second guessing “Am I going to do this right?” Becomes one of the most common thoughts. He can’t do anything right, so why even try? Any positive emotion is becoming increasingly forced Part 5: LATE CLINICAL STAGE 3/EARLY CLINICAL STAGE 4 “I’m in hell.” True depression shows its face. They will die alone. In a cold hospital. They’ll just be nothing by the end. He doesn’t want to see what’s after this. He weeps silently. Part 6: EARLY CLINICAL STAGE 4 “Might as well make these days happy I guess…” Feeling pity for one’s own condition isn’t going to slow nor stagnate the decline. He is on the tipping point, the bridge between relatively fine memory and confusion. Just one step away. Might as well make these last lucid days happy. A confident diagnosis is made at this time. “Are you alright?” “I wish I was.” “Have you taken your medication today?” “Yes I have.” MID STAGE: PART 7: MID CLINICAL STAGE 4 “Nothing is important. I’m just a burden to my caretakers.” The floodgates open revealing shadows that shiver within the cold of night. Partial Anosognosia appears. They don’t completely forget, nor is it always there. PART 8: LATE CLINICAL STAGE 4 “I’m not okay, I’m not okay. Please, rid me of this condition.” Partial Anosognosia becomes more common, awareness of one’s own condition is still held onto, but they are becoming increasingly unsure. They *have* to remember their diagnosis. If they don’t, then there is nothing to fight for. PART 9: LATE CLINICAL STAGE 4/EARLY CLINICAL STAGE 5 “God never loved me.” Anosognosia nearly fully sprouts. Awareness of one’s own condition is unstable, one moment they might fully remember it and the next it will nearly be gone. All they need to remember is the fact that they have Alzheimer’s. They don’t want to fall. PART 10: EARLY - MID CLINICAL STAGE 5 “My eyes see nothing, for they are gouged out. A final burst of clarity lets them say goodbye. They don’t want to leave on a bad note. He wants everyone to remember him fondly, even if he won’t remember them. Then, the moment he feared. Post-awareness. He falls into complete Anosognosia. Then he comes back out of it. Only small fragments of anything remains. Even when he is un-Anosognosic, he doesn’t have any mental clarity. The thought appears for a moment, a short reminder. Then it falls out. He has fallen. He has lost. There is nothing left for him. “I’m going to need you to take these pills.” “Why? Am I sick? I don’t feel it.” LATE STAGE: PART 11: LATE CLINICAL STAGE 5 “I like the snow, don’t you?” Mood shifts from jolly to angry and frustrated as they already have fallen into Anosognosia. Why can’t they remember? It’s okay, they’re just going to head to sleep for the night. PART 12: EARLY CLINICAL STAGE 6/ MID CLINICAL STAGE 6 “I do.” Memories are all one. Nothing but misery and terror remains. This is how they spend their days. They receive good care, meaning terror is more toned down than most others. I might have found the sample used in track 60 starting at 3:05:39. The song is called I've Got A Feeling You're Foolin' by Carroll Gibbons, and the specific section being used is at either 12-13 or 24-25 seconds. Like track 60, a section of muted trumpets is incorporated, and the reverbed noise does twitch on the note similar to the backing cello. The conundrum for me is that the trumpet and cello are almost in sync with each other regarding note changes, however here I can only hear two distinct trumpet pitches, but three distinct cello pitches. Personally I'd say this genre is dying out, it's been about 5-ish years now and the community has turned completely toxic and is very hostile to new artists. Many major artists in the community such as myself have also retired from this genre, so I say it's dying. As someone who made this music from this genre, I feel like we make it because it fascinates us. It's an opportunity for audio/fx artists to test their skills. It's also an opportunity for visual artists to practice their art skills with cover arts and visuals. We create fan albums as a way of demonstrating how we would do it, and also to refine the concept. The caretaker is very impactful in my opinion, I've always loved older music, I collect vintage records and antiques. So with curiosity I decided to listen to the album, as I got deeper into the album I realized it's true meaning. And honestly it was terrifying, each stage has a feeling. Stage 1 was nostalgia, stage 2 was grief, stage 3 was a combination of the first two with notes of anger, euphoria and bewilderment. Stage 4 was fear and confusion, stage 5 was fear and loneliness (also the most heartbreaking stage in my opinion), and stage 6 was desolate, like an old abandoned building. The album really puts you in the shoes of what millions of senior citizens are experiencing, and it was heartbreaking. It makes you appreciate life more than you did before listening to it.
