I have been wearing them for a few days now and they really help me take of the rough edges of sound and with that it makes me feel calmer actually. I suffer from hyperacysis (sound sensitivity) and a mild form of asperger. I’m going to continue wearing them and see what the effect is om the longen term. For now I’m impressed how effective they are.

@@tjluckock5116 Probably not as much as you need. When I'm at my wit's end with noise, I need to block it out, and Calmer only dampen sound, they don't block it out; you can still hear the bulk of the sound. I recommend noise-canceling headphones or earbuds, or some kind of ear plugs. I combine my Loop earplugs (not 100% but fairly good) with my Soundcore headphones (cheap option) or put in my Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds (about $200 secondhand), and if I need to be distracted I'll put on soft music or ambient noise (rainforest, ocean waves, etc.) or a low-stress video.

I just got my calmer pro today. Very subtle difference on a conscious level, but the actual effect on my mood is massive. Just feels like I'm wearing a layer of armour that protects me against the sounds that used to feel like weapons.

Your review absolutely helped me buy them and I took them out for a spin today and was shocked. I have never felt so calm in a restaurant. There was noisy kids, and it was completely full and I could still hear them, but I was able to tune them out as background noise and concentrate on the conversation with my friend. I then also went to a bar and had a drink with a friend and was completely unbothered by how noisy it was. I feel like tonight I got a taste of what it must be like to be neurotypical. An absolute game changer for me.

Just want to put it out here for anyone who finds it helpful. Since Flare calmer doesn't reduce noise that significantly. I've a better option. The first Flare product I tried and fell in love with was Flare isolate minis. These are actual earbuds with an aluminum attached which absorbs sounds. If you ask me it reduced 80% of all annoying sounds, and just like he said "sounds that pierce through ears right into brain", trust me, totally gone. Yes some downsights are there, like you can't wear them for long without feeling discomfort, and voices of people are muffled but if anyone feels literally tortured by those noises, they will love. It also comes with 3 spare sizes in the pack itself, each have a different effect.

To put it succinctly, they reduce sound "intensity". You still hear everything but the pressure of the sound wave is reduced because the cross sectional area in your ear is smaller.

Based on your review, I think I’ll try these for when I have to be out and dealing with people. I currently use Happy Ears (which I very much recommend), but they block sounds too much for me to talk to people, so they aren’t good for using in stores, etc. (absolutely essential riding the subway, walking around noisy cities, vacuuming, etc. though).
@transplantman2287
@transplantman2287 2 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of nor tried Happy Ears, I may look into them for something a bit stronger than Calmer but less noise-cancelling than some earbuds I got from a friend. Calmer definitely let in noise; I've needed something stronger for really busy areas or times when a sound is truly obnoxious, but for general softening of "hard" edged sounds, Calmer works fairly well.

I through mine in the drawer because they really didn’t do anything but make all noises sound like one noise. Picked back up at my second job, working a loud restaurant and decided to give these a go because it was causing panic attacks. They work. I don’t see benefit in public or at home, but working in a loud kitchen and constant inconsistent loud pitches, these absolutely 100% take off the ease. I'm considering these too because I heard that they're good for ADHD. Apparently, dulling down background noise (such as conversations happening in the distance) can reduce external distractions. Most of my distractions are internal, but every little helps! In your experience, do you think they filter out potentially distracting background chatter?

Thanks for this. Ive bern looking for sound reduction options recently and read about this product. I struggle with train wheels screaching, dogs barking , high frequency aspects of any noise really. Flare claims to help people still hear well, but take away the edginess while reducing stress . Regular sound blockers have me taking them out every time someone cones and asks me a question which increases my stress. Calmer seems to me an option id like to try as someone on the spectrum.

I feel so much confusion and anxiety when i'm listening to this noise, i just cant relax, usualy with some noises like humming noises or vacum. Reviews I see mostly mention how it blocks certain sounds so it ruins music for them and lowers traffic noise so it's unsafe to jog with and stuff. I just wanna go to the supermarket without feeling like my brains being pulled apart at the hemispheres. Sounds like it'd be beneficial. I was in the city once and a siren went by and I had to dissolve into the nearest wall and block out the world to avoid a meltdown. My poor brother must have wondered what the hell I was doing. Sounds like they'll be worth £20 to try.
@transplantman2287

Sirens are the worst. I don't think Calmer are strong enough to reduce super loud noises like sirens or very loud traffic (like in a big city). However, that's just my experience; my hearing is super sensitive. For me, they make music better because sharp notes aren't as piercing. I think ear plugs make a bigger difference for loud noises, BUT I also think Calmer are worth a try for everyday use.

Hi, sorry for the late reply! For me, the Calmer don't make internal sounds loud; I think this is because they have the opening that lets sound go in and out of your ear semi-normally. This is a good question! Calmer are much weaker than noise-canceling headphones. So, yes, when you need to pay attention to sound, Calmer are safer because they don't block sounds. The difference is definitely minimal. I only really notice how much they're blocking when I've been wearing them for a while and then take them out; it's like the sharp edges of sound come back in. And probably for very sensitive ears in noisy spaces, they won't make as much of a difference as the person would need.
