I worked as an activity leader with Chinese students at a TEFL summer school and they were an absolute joy to work with. Very well behaved and always respected the rules. I enjoyed my experience so much that I’m considering teaching English in China in the future! I loved how inquisitive the students were. They were eager to learn about the UK and excited to teach me about Chinese culture. The only negative was that many of them would spend WAY too much time on their phones, especially considering that they were abroad for the first time and everything was new and different. It was concerning that some of the students were still more interested in a silly little game on a tiny screen than exploring a new country!!

In my 14 years as a teacher, lesson planning and grading has always been the most time consuming and difficult part. In Australia here I am scheduled with kids all day long and I teach five different subjects so all the planning and marking happens at home. Its absolutely exhausting., And yep, weekends too. I'm moving to China in a couple of months and my schedule has built in time to ensure I can do those things during work hours. I can't wait, it's going to be a game changer.

Soooo many issues with Chat GPT in schools. At this point, we just need to start teaching students the correct ways to use it and allow them to use it within certain restrictions cus it's not going anywhere! It's just ridiculous when some of my students will use it to write poetry or essays and it comes out sounding super robotic with all types of words and phrases they can't understand but then teens love to lie and say they wrote it themselves!

Thanks for the uplifting video! For clarity to any teachers considering coming to China, this school seems quite different from other international schools in the country. The tech would be better, you'd have a proper curriculum, the canteen would be good, the working hours would be less, and there would be a greater focus on an English-only environment.
@AleeseLightyear3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your input. I don't think the working hours would be less....most schools have a minimum requirement of 20-25 teach hours per week. I also think the canteen situation is personal preference.

Everyone except for the manager is part-time, so no insurance whatsoever, but you work as a full time employee. They promise you 5000-7000 salary, but that's only in theory, the actual salary is much less, and it's super exhausting, always million things to do, like no time to rest at all.
