Just discovered your channel today. I love it! Great personality and storytelling. I left the US in 2008 the say way you did, Google search for a job related to travel. I see teaching still comes up. I started in South Korea in the EPIK program and now live in Hong Kong since 2011. I agree with your assessment about the safety in China especially for single women. It has been great! I'm looking forward to viewing more of your content. Cheers!

it's convenient to the point that you feel you're going back in time when you travel almost anywhere else. Having to still bring your wallet when you're out and about is not what's up 😂.

You are quite a rude person, the people who showed you these places are probably thinking why did I put in this effort to show this person around.

Thanks for such an interesting video, Aleese. How did you get back to Beijing after the night tour? From what I understand all the public transport - trains and busses - stop running in the afternoon/early evening.

Great content. I think it's same everywhere. People are getting lonelier than ever, many don't have one single close friend. Like you said, it gets harder when you are older to make new friends. "Friends" in the adult world, is more like "what can I get from you? Will you be any use to me in the near future? Are you attractive enough to be my friend?". As we are getting older, we also better able to see through people's BS, and realize how few good people are out there. Finding social connections is beneficial but learning to be ok and happy by yourself is just as important. Easier said than done. Loneliness feels even stronger when you are in another country. Over a decade in the states, still feeling the same way. Life is too short to be wasting in a place where we don't feel happy. Sometimes our unhappiness is trying to tell us something. China and America are actually very similar in many areas. People in both countries worship money above everything else. They are both very discriminative towards racial minorities. It's just that Chinese don't usually show it and often it's just ignorance, where as in America they will show it both directly, indirectly, and aggressively. Also as an Chinese we were always taught to welcome foreigners, so most people will be friendly towards foreigners even if it's just fake nice. They are often nicer to foreigners than their own people. However in America foreigners/racial minorities are viewed as inferior and that we should be so grateful that they even let you visit. China of course is a lot safer and cheaper. Unfortunately, both countries are not great for making new friends, even as a Chinese. Having lived in many countries, I also don't believe different race mix well together anymore. The close friends we ever had, tend to be of the same race. I find most interracial friendships/relationship are very shallow and ungenuine. Although we live in a globalized world, but people often would rather focus on our differences (skin color, weight, racial characteristics) than our similarities (the desire for companions and love). Good luck!

Aleese, I heard that nearly 1.4% of American people have peanut allergy. However, Chinese people almost don't have peanut allergy at all. Chinese food is not labeled with allergens, so be sure to bring that to the attention of your friends! My Japanese friend was allergic to congee in China because she was allergic to shrimp skin, but she didn't see it in the congee cause we use it to get the flavor.

Actually, you need pass a examination to get a teacher certificate before teaching if you are a Chinese. It seems more easy for the English native speakers to get the job.😊
