This study proposes to explore the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and exercise science to bring novel technologies and techniques to personalized fitness programs. By developing a specialized Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) system, the project aims to automate and personalize fitness programming within the fitness industry and at Wayne State University. The objectives include developing a localized GPT model, assessing the system’s impact on fitness outcomes and participant feedback, integrating the GPT model with Excel-based systems for real-time adjustments, and conducting a pilot study to evaluate effectiveness and user satisfaction. The methodology encompasses GPT model development, system integration, a pilot study, and data collection and analysis. The study seeks to address the lack of unified systems efficiently integrating AI with individual health metrics, preferences, and progress tracking into personalized training programs. Utilizing Large Language Model (LLM) technologies, this research aims to enhance the effectiveness of exercise prescription by offering scalable, personalized solutions to improve community health, well-being, and injury prevention. The findings of this study have potential to set new standards for holistic exercise prescription and contribute to the novel body of research at the intersection between AI and exercise science.
