Usually about three times a year I get a panic e-mail or message from one of my viewers, because their loader has quit working. I like these messages because the fix is easy and takes about five minutes and doesn't cost anything.
You can tell you have this problem is you've been brush hogging in the woods, or, if you've recently taken your loader off and put it back on. What has happened is, a hydraulic hose has come loose from a coupler and all you need to do is plug it back in and you're fixed.
In the video I show a hose that's not attached. It will almost never be this obvious. Usually, all the hoses LOOK like they're plugged in, but one has popped out just enough to prevent the flow of hydraulic oil. The symptom will be that either the bucket won't tilt or curl, or the main frame of the loader won't go up or down...everything else will work, including the three point.
To fix the problem, turn off the tractor. If it's been running for an extended time, I'd let that hydraulic oil cool so you don't burn yourself. Then let the loader arms all the way down to the ground to take all the pressure off the lines, and then wiggle the joystick in all directions, just to make absolute sure the pressure is out of the system. Get your gloves and a shop rag and it's time to find the problem.
It may take a little work to find the hose that's unplugged. Like I said, most of the time it'll look like it's plugged in, but it's just loose enough that there's no hydraulic oil going through it. Plug it back in and test it, you should be good to go.
If you're around tractors long enough, this will eventually happen to you. The good news is, this is one of those easy fixes that'll allow you to get back to work quickly.

Thanks Mike, I did this to my tractor last weekend. One caution note, make sure the coupler is not damaged. My case when the hose pulled free from the quick connect I damaged the 'O' rings and couldn't get a good seal. Thankfully I have great support from my service department.

Thanks for the great tip! Just had this happen to me. First I checked the cylinoids at the bottom of the valve bank since previously I had to drain a little fluid out of them because the bucket was moving so slow going down. I did get a little more fluid out of them and thought when I put it back together it would work just like the last time I did it. Well, it did not. Messed around a little longer trying to figure it out, before I came in and found this tip by Tractor Mike. Went back outside and found one of the quick disconnect coupler was not in all the way. Thanks Mike!

You really helped me I tried bleeding lines and still the loader would not come down. I had been bush hogging when the loader stopped working, just as you said, and sure enough a hose came uncoupled. I want to thank you so much and the only way I can is by subscribing, and that's what I done. P.S. I called a local tractor mechanic who installed this loader and he didn't know, "maybe could be a a blown cylinder" was his reply.

Hi Mike. Thank you, Thank you Thank you...... I have a JD5075E with a Tenías T10 fel. Few days ago suddenly bucket wouldn’t curl. It did seem to have hydraulic pressure input, but would hang limp and not curl in or out. No leaks, no breaks, no bent pistons etc. Checked connectors, and all seemed well. Thoughts of major repairs by unexperienced techs ( not many tractors here in Curacao....). Bsed on your advice, decided to pressure clean the toy, and do complete check of all connetcors. Lo and behold in the rear, indeed, the hydraulic is tapped off from a rear aux output and relayed to fel.... one connector was slightly ajar....... fixed in 10 minutes. Ready to work again. Thanks Mike.

THIS just saved my life! I'm a new owner of a used Kubota BX25. Had just parked it, lowered the front bucket to the floor, removed the 3 pt hitch to prep it for hanging the backhoe on it...started it up and the frontend loader wouldn't budge. Moved forward/backward, rear PTO worked fine but the bucket nor the 3 pt hitch arms would move. Followed these directions and BAM! I'm up and running in less time than it takes to watch this whole video! Thank you!

On this exact new holland tractor, i had to remove a cylinder for the bucket curl and have it sent off to be rebuilt, i also removed the 2 hoses that go to the cylinder so that those could be taken to the same shop to get a replacement since they were worn. When i get everything back and get it sll hooked up, do i have to bleed air out of the system before the bucket will work properly by leaving 1 of the new hoses a little lose until i get fluid out of it with no air? or does this system have some kind of autonatic bleeder?

Mike. My loader goes up when I try to put it down if my 3 point is raised completely. If I lower the 3 point just slightly down works. It started after I rebuilt the 2 cylinders for the bucket curl. Before that up and down were working fine. Even had good power down. I never disconnected any lines at any time. Fluid is fine.

I have a different problem? if I set my bucket and left arms down to the ground, I can lift the front end off the ground by curling the bucket forward. now if I lift the arms up and tip the bucket so the cutting edge is facing straight down and then push the loader arms down it will not lift the front wheels off the ground.... also the lift arms just don't seem to have much lifting power at all while the bucket curl seems normal. could this be an issue in the valve body or the lift arm hydraulic cylinder?

A sudden failure when brush hogging a woody area almost always is a hose or a wire pulled loose underneath. I'd get the tractor to a clean area, put a big piece of cardboard on the ground and get a flashlight and search until you find the culprit. I'd bet you'll find it.

Could the lines be switched? Was the loader off prior to it not working right?

@@TractorMike I don't think so I believe they are color coded with the caps to cover up when disconnected (the loader) The hydraulic fluid was bone dry but the tilt on the bucket works the raise and lower does not.

You should create a blog to discuss tractor problems I had a neighbor one time they already taken their Ford tractor to the dealership wants because it wouldn't shift gears it was stuck in a in a year I paid the dealership $1,600 a year and a half later the Same problem and all you had to do was told the shift lever out stick a large screwdriver down in line up these three pieces of metal that look like Staples lined up so there's an opening across the center which foot the tractor back in neutral growing up we had a international 454 it got stuck in 4th gear in high range all the time I got so good at pulling this shift lever and lining those things up that I could just sink the clutch with the tractor still running and do it and keep on plowing or bush hogging or whatever manufacturers of filters fluids and parts would advertise on your blog because you're saving the average person thousands of dollars every time they access your site the second time it happened to my neighbor mr. Clarice for tractor I just have to be across the fence on our property he respected my knowledge of farm equipment even though I grown up with his daughter and I am female and I asked you if I could try something he watched what I did his tractor was back up and running in less than 5 minutes he was so Furious that a dealership add charged him $1,600 a year earlier and if I hadn't been working ground across the fence that day the dealership would have got another $1,600 from him thank you very much Mike for your contributions to the Common Man

My kubota loader slowly lost lifting power. Also when I try to lower the bucket there seems to be a hitch then it lowers quickly. Also the tractor seems to have lost power climbing hills. It’s an HST. I think it’s a hydraulic pressure issue but there are no leaks in the system? Any thoughts on how to problem solve this?
@TractorMike

Oh boy. There are a lot of things that could be. When was the last time you changed hydraulic/hydro filters? That's the first thing to check. After that, it could be some kind of internal leak. A technician would probably have to hook up pressure gauges to determine exactly where the issue is. Good luck!

T Mike. Im going to change out all the fluids in October as well as all filters. I’m hoping that will solve the problem. Honestly it’s been too long between changes.

Help. My FEL wont lift or tilt up under pressure, but will work if there is nothing in the bucket. Ideas??

The first thing I'd do is change the hydraulic filter. If it's clogged that could be the problem. Make sure all the lines are plugged in all the way. Have you had it off lately or done maintenance to the system? When did it start?

@@TractorMike it just started. I used it to pull a post out of the ground a week ago and it seemed fine. I dont know how to do much. But I'll check the filter. Thank you for your reply!

@TractorMike
@TractorMike 2 жыл бұрын
Do you feel the hydraulic pump trying to work when the joystick is engaged? If not, it's something broken in the joystick, like a linkage, if it's trying to pump and nothing is happening it could be a clogged hydraulic filter.

Could be an electrical problem as well. Here's a video that explains a diverter valve, yours may be slightly different: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anq2oZSAfduGn6M. If you're not getting power to the diverter valve, that would cause your problem. It could be a problem with the valve as well.
