our teacher showed that video in my University as a material to understand what fuzzy logic is!!! :D

Yes, it is true that the example could be solved using some linear/non-linear function. In fact, there has already been some analytical solutions to this. In this video we assume that we do not have a model of the system (i.e. we do not know the actual function f(x)). Essentially, in this example, FL tries to estimate the unknown nonlinear function based only on our chef's instructions. In any case, it's an educational video, and we hope that you have enjoyed it, nevertheless!

I believe the linguistic variables are going to be as such: Input: Small = (70 - x) / 30 Large = (x - 40) / 30 Output: Less than 5 minutes = (6 - x) / 3 More than 5 minutes = (x - 3) / 3 Did it here and it works for me. The result was 4 minutes. :)

Doesn't this sort of just amount to calculating cooking time as a function of egg size? I'm still slightly confused about why the whole set membership thing needs to be used.

Hi, Thank you for this very informative video. I have a question. How do we calculate %30, and %70 fuzzy numbers in the first place. The answer may be simple arithmetic calculation for a weight problem like this but what if we have a non-numeric parameter? Thank you for the answer in advance.

Why not just a linear equation?" f(x)=(x/10)-1 ", where x is the input weight in grams and f(x) is the output time in minutes? Or is this a more efficient circuit designed to only compute the egg boiling time and is therefore incapable of algebra?

There is a hidden function in the robot for evaluation of the final decision based on the "weights" (70+30) which is not explained in this video, as it is just an implementation thing - in other words not important for this introduction video.

I thin'k this video make the solution look's a more probabilistic than fuzzy one, actually I think it makes the concept of fuzzy logic fuzzy it self! xD

I had to stop watching because of the franticly vibrating letters. Besides, I think that the percentages 30% and 70% might make students think that membership values should add up to 1 (or 100%), which may lead to commonly made mistakes.
