This game is simple but it's very satisfying. It's almost like an Vampire Survivors but with an army! Just finished the demo, I did noticed the developer had some nice insights and good ideas there, didn't knew this title. Thanks for this great video!

I just did a full Hero run lol. Picked Gareth as the hero and then sold all my army units. Stacked Survival bonus early, and then turned him into an unkillable tank with huge damage and spells. Literally beat the demo with just the Hero xD Had about 4.5k health by the time round 20 came about. 120 regen, 21 armour, 190 damage, 96% cleave (which is very important when doing a hero run lmao) and of course maxxed deflection.

Fastest I've seen, downloaded and played a demo, eye strain and all. Really enjoyable gameplay loop. Feels so much easier to use the second hero than the first, as I always got wiped out on round 15, but won the demo second time around with the mage.

I’m lukewarm about the glut of “Survivor’s-like” games but I have to acknowledge that the focus on a wide array of units, rather than a single character, is a fresh spin on the formula. It feels more epic to see armies battle it out, rather than have one hero annihilate hordes ad nauseum. Still an auto battler though, which has never been my preferred mechanic.

8:10 5% may not seem like much now ( .25 pts for your human stabby guys) but when you stack it and get unit upgrades it will add up to some serious healing.

Yeah the first game was a massive disappointment though - it was really cool to begin with but the end game stuff was a joke. Hope they do better with this one - but I ain't paying for a 2nd game unless I know for sure that they did a better job with that!

Ya they really abandoned the first one, it was released and felt very early access...but then they never updated it again. And now its clear cause they wanted to just make a new one rather than fix up first one. Very concerning

I kept updating Mage and Monsters for a long time after release, adding new units, new heroes, new spells, 1 new map with tons of new enemies, and another new map with randomly generated enemies. This was all content added for free for those who had already bought the game.

I bought the first one, and liked it. But this one looks the same. New graphics, a "hero" unit, and the store seems to have less upgrade, but otherwise it seems to be the same game. More of a remake than a sequel. But it was a fun game, so if you're not burnt-out on the original, I think it's probably a good buy. But maybe a bit disappointing if you already have the first one.

Roguelikes. Deckbuilders. Survival-craft. People talk about how AAA studios only ever play it safe and chase trends, but indie games have become just as stale. Is nobody doing anything interesting in the indie scene that old Splattercatgaming might be able to make a successful video for, or is this the limit of what his audience will actually click on?

Roguelike roguelike roguelike. Every new fucking game on Steam is a roguelike. And this is encourged by the KZbinrs who mostly only cover roguelikes. I'm so over this. I hate roguelikes so much. The repetitiveness of this genre is horrible, why would anyone want this compared to real content with real levels? Please. Please. Please. I just want this suffering to end. I wish everybody would stop making and covering only roguelikes.

This isn't even a roguelike. You hate them because people use the term so broadly that it covers nearly every game. Caves of Qud 1.0 comes out this week, a great example of an actual roguelike. If you bounce off of something like this, you probably really do dislike them.

Seriously, in 2024 these pixeled graphics is just unacceptable for me. If I want to play a game that looks like from the 90s, then I can just play one. These days you can even use AI to generate assets, even from basic sketches, heck you could even just take these or of the game and have an AI make decent resolution version. What even is the point of these blocky stuff? The same art can be made in a decent resolution and some switch be added to draw them in low resolution for these pixelation fans. Also due to the CRTs working differently back then, a pixelated sprite still looked different and so better even in the old days. I mean about nobody would want new movies to be released in monochrome or maybe even without sound to feel nostalgic because that was the way to go in the early days. I for my part will not buy any game that uses low resolution graphics just because this is declared an "art style".

Yeah, in a lot of cases it seems like they are just lazy and hide behind artistic reasons. This one is especially rough. Hero's Hour is the lowest I can accept. And yes, some of the games have to calculate a lot, a game like Vampire Survivors can have so much stuff on the screen that every single pixel is an enemy or a projectile and they apply debuffs and so on ... okay. But this?

Op has no idea how 3D assets are made. AI will eventually be able to do it. However, it has a long way to go before it can model, rig, animate, apply textures, apply vfx/sfx and implement it into a game engine. Currently it can handle generating textures somewhat ok. Not to a professional artist level though. AI still needs the professional artist to feed it and validate what "good" actually is. This is assuming you have a professional artist that is ok with giving away their trade skills to eventually have their skills and services rendered obsolete 😂. Additionally, artistic choices are as varied and numerous as noses on people's faces.

Instead of comparing to movies, understand pixel art is more like reading a book than watching a movie, and maybe you'll better understand why many of us prefer it. It engages the brain differently, it isn't meant to be realistic. It's fine if you don't like it, and you don't have to buy it, just like I will never buy a 3d game with a bright magenta sky because it hurts my eyes.... but it is a valid artistic choice.
