I lived in Tennessee for 29 years before moving to North Carolina about a year and a half ago. I didn’t lock my doors in Tennessee and I don’t lock my doors here in North Carolina. I don’t carry a house key. I’m sure that it is different in most places, but I even receive excellent service when I patronize a restaurant. I treat the workers at Walmart as though they are valuable human beings, and most of them treat me the same way.

I'm 66, and I'm originally from Minneapolis/St Paul, and spent the last 36 years in Kansas City. Minneapolis/St Paul is a leftist progressive sewer, and Kansas City is perhaps a little better, but that's not saying a lot. Kind of a Chicago wannabe, and found employers (excluding my current employer) treat their workers like an old Soviet Gulag. I went to Gallatin, TN on business last spring. Really liked central Tennessee. Nicer culture and booming area. Ran into a very few progressive hipsters , but most everyone were everyday Joes like me. I might be going to eastern Tennessee, Knoxville, TN in the future and look forward to it. I could easily live in Tennessee. I'm sure they have their troubles, but from what I saw, they pale compared to where I live/have lived.

I know this wasn't your point, but are you a single person household? We're a family of 5 so always looking to keep groceries down. Currently doing about 150 a week because I went through our pantry stock. Tips on how you keep your bill so low? Sorry things are tight for you too 🙁
@foolish_god13 күн бұрын
@shahaliesunshine412 yeah, I'm a single dude. There's basically 3 things I do to keep bills low. You can probably do the first 2: 1- shopping at cheap grocery stores once a week. I go to Aldi 2- budget and stick to the plan. I make sure all my money is lined up with all the purposes I have. Dave Ramsey has good content on KZbin to help budget and stick to that plan 3- I suffer. I eat the less satisfying food. It's easy as a single guy because I only have to care about me. It's hard to make your children eat sucky food cause they'll complain and it sucks cause you want them to have good food

@foolish_god thanks! Yeah, with 5 people there's probably only so low the grocery bill can go. And yes my kids have some expensive taste 😂 they love the meats and dairy. Great protein but man it's expensive. I'll check out Dave Ramsey again. It's been a while. I make my own bread cause it's cheaper and stick with frozen veggies for the same reason. Aldi is hit or miss here. Walmart will sometimes be cheaper with sales. Prayers things get better for all of us. We'll be blessed if we're faithful 🙏🏼

Evangelicalism's rhetoric on singleness was even worse than just normalizing singleness. I remember when I was single, I was made to feel guilty and idolatrous for having a desire to get married. There was this kind of what's the matter single person? Isn't Christ enough to fulfull you? If Christ isn't enough, then you have a problem" And it was usually married people who would say such things.

@PeterSawyer2626 ok so you're aware that Paul recommends singlehood
@PeterSawyer26263 күн бұрын
@JW-tg1nn I used to view this passage that way. And I struggled with it. Because that forces us to pit 1 Corinthians against the rest of the Bible. The rest of the Bible speaks very highly of marriage. Yet we look at this passage and come to the conclusion that Paul is saying it would be better for everyone not to marry. I believe that Paul is speaking to a specific context. Notice throughout that passage that Paul qualifies what he is saying. If somebody struggles with sexual desire, they should get married. And he does not put anyone under compulsion. People who have the gift of celibacy are free to not get married. That means people who have no desire to have sex. This is extremely rare. However, those who burn with passion, aka your regular person, should get married. Marriage is the norm. We are still under the creation mandate. Be fruitful and multiply. Paul wouldn't teach against that. Why would Paul teach people to do something that would lead to the extinction of the human race?
@JW-tg1nn3 күн бұрын
@PeterSawyer2626 the Bible does speak positively of marriage. I have no problem with that. What i do have a problem is people in this camp shaming people who do not want to get married. Also, getting married is not a cure for struggling with lust. If anything it compounds the problem.

One of the things that I think about is: what would our spiritual ancestors think of the trajectory of Europe and America? They spread Christianity throughout the pagan Europe that allowed Western civilization to thrive. America was born out of Western civilization by religious people. Those who died to spread Christianity amongst the pagan Europe, how would they think of all this? And do we not owe a debt to them and the way to repay that debt is to preserve Western civilization for our progeny?
@peterrodriguez62168 күн бұрын
What if you’re a tribal citizen whose great grandparents were stolen from there homes and forced into a religious school and after years of being abused and propagandized did start to believe in the European version of Christianity? Is that particular group of people supposed to feel indebted to the missionaries?
@CeeEee-it6uz12 күн бұрын
As a sister in Christ, I have to ask: why is singleness being attacked in this way? It’s worth considering whether this perspective is a result of the Reformation movement and its rejection of monastic lifestyles. In the Old Testament, God often showed favor through marital blessings and children, describing them as a “quiver full of arrows. However, in the New Testament, the idea of spiritual fruit shifts dramatically. I would even argue that suffering due to having an unfulfilled desire-such as romantic love or a spouse could be likened to enduring a “thorn in the flesh”-is a form of spiritual fruit, as it cultivates humility and deeper dependence on Jesus. The New Testament gives us examples like Jesus, the apostles, martyrs, saints, and monks, who exemplified faithfulness without earthly families or legacies. Through Christ, we are adopted into an eternal sonship, which supersedes any need to build an earthly legacy. While having a family and children is a blessing and a sacrament, it is not a tenet of the Christian faith. To treat it as such begins to resemble Islam, where marriage and having many children are religious obligations to strengthen numbers and continue their militant faith (hence allowances like polygamy). In Christianity, however, we are called to lift our eyes toward heaven and live for the eternal. In the Old Testament, God commanded, “Be fruitful and multiply,” but in the New Testament, Jesus commanded us to “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Additionally, it’s fallacious to present the ideal of marriage and family alongside the worst examples of singleness. If we are to compare ideal with ideal, intentional singleness is arguably the higher calling, as it involves a profound level of self-denial and full submission to God’s will. Paul himself suggests this in 1 Corinthians 7. That said, some people are married, and others are single-neither state is inherently superior. Many people didn’t choose their situation, but it is God’s will for them. Both marriage and singleness are gifts, but they can also be burdens or crosses. Having a spouse is not a safeguard against sexual sin, especially in today’s world, where Jesus Himself warned against lusting in our hearts. I say this with respect and a desire to contribute constructively. I’m growing in my faith daily, but I found the message of this video to be naïve and elitist. It seems to imply that singleness is not part of God’s will for some, while emphasizing earthly legacies and the “American dream.” This perspective feels antithetical to the Christian message, which calls us to focus on the eternal kingdom rather than temporal ideals.

Hezekiah was given extra time by the LORD in Isaiah 38 but he didn't use that extra time well. He flaunted his wealth to the envoys from Babylon in Isaiah 39. This was the generational wealth that you men talk about. That wealth was to go. Hezekiah has the same attitude Keynes had 30:08 many years later in Isaiah 39:5-8 - he didn't care what was prophesied for his wealth, family or nation. All he cared about was what happened whilst he was alive.

Those in captivity in Jeremiah's day were given clear instruction in the epistle he wrote to them. There was also a warning not to listen to the diviners and false prophets among them (Jeremiah 29:4-10). What a pity that many charismatic churches just quote the footnote (v11) about God's undisclosed plan - as if the previous 7 verses were irrelevant. Those verses are great instructions on the aims of a godly family life rather than the individuality or singleness Joel talks about at 48:00

In an otherwise fruitful and helpful discussion, I am reminded of the extremely relevant and insightful quote, from the movie "Last Knights" (2015), where one of the main characters, played by Morgan Freeman, makes the following observation: "Adopting the language of the pretense only serves to ease participation in it." Some current examples include: Progressive, which is nothing other than Regressive for how it seeks to tear down the family, faith, economics, nations maintaining borders, etc. Abortion, which is a euphemism for Pre-Born Infanticide (PBI), is further euphemized to "Pro Choice", and even further to "Reproductive Rights". Mis/Dis-Information, as if the First Amendment, which guarantees our right to express opinions that others do not agree with, does not exist or is out of date. Weaving back to how another word is used throughout this discussion, what is "gay" and how that euphemism is being more and more adopted by the Church. The "Gay 90s", during the 1890s, had nothing to do with homosexuality. OTOH, the Gay 90s, during the 1990s, had everything to do with homosexuality. In the KJV, James 2:3 says: "And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool" I don't think James is referring to "fruitlessness". Else, "And ye have respect to him that weareth the fruitless clothing"? In the Christmas Carol, we sing, "Don we now our gay apparel", I don't think that was referring to "fruitlessness". Else, "And don we now our fruitless apparel"? In the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, The Flintstones, its theme song included: "We'll have a gay old time". I don't think they were referring to "fruitlessness". Else, "We'll have fruitless old time"? "Conservative" news pundits, when referring to homosexuals and homosexuality prior to the 1990s use the word "gay", which is historically inaccurate. The 1990s saw a massive increase in pushing the euphemism to make homosexuality more acceptable, if not appealing. It went from condemning to ignoring to tolerating to accepting to approving to championing. And the Church, by and large, has gone right along with that. How current and relevant is the three-fold giving up/over that God does to those who suppress the truth about how the world was created by a Creator God, but go their own way: "24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them."
