Sorry, but I have to start pinning this until I learn how to speak clearly again. I am not having a stroke nor do I have bell’s palsy, a brain tumor or MS. I do not have ALS or a migraine. Please stop calling my shop to notify me or Mrs.O that I can not speak clearly. I am very aware of my inability to "pronunciate" words like I use to and she is also aware of my slurred speech. We live together and work together and I even talk to her. I have an upper palate expander in my mouth. It interferes with my tongue. Shcrews up my shpeech . Thank you for your concerns. -Eric O.

The mark of a good repair person is persistence. Many just get to a certain point , then quit or make up an excuse for not being able to find a problem. I like that Eric has surrounded himself with tools he's familiar and comfortable with regardless of their cost, from a simple auto lamp to a sophisticated OBD2 analyzer.

@redmondjp

To be fair, the leak is on the top side of the tank, so the 'smoke' (actually oil vapor) dissipates and is harder to see if one is just looking underneath the vehicle. But any competent (emphasis on that word) mechanic should have found this, on that we can agree. The trouble is, in every arena of life these days, it is getting harder to find competent workers, for many different reasons that are too numerous to discuss here.

Once again, you prove the difference between a diagnostician and a parts changer.....you UNDERSTAND the correlation between the various components and their interaction with each other. The knowledge is out there, but sadly most of the paycheck mechanics just go by the tests, and if the issue doesn't jump out at them, they pass it on out the shop. I spent a 40-year career in a field where troubleshooting was a vital part of our job, and trying to find someone with the SELF DRIVE to actually FIND the trouble was always a challenge! Good job, as usual!!

Of course it was full of gas and I had no help to wrestle it down, so I bit the bullet. get it back, cel is on, never came on before. they said something else was wrong. i watched your video, hooked up my scan tool, figured out the issue, took it back and said hey, here's my scan tool, here's the issue, they had to install a new fuel pump. pretty sad when a paying customer has to do the trouble shooting for a supposed reputable shop!

You make it look easy. It took two visits to the Honda Dealer to locate my leak on a 3 year old car.

I always like when they "can't find the problem". But I think a lot shops do not have mechanics, they have parts changers. Huge difference.

Say Eric, any reason your videos are set to private and only viewable through shorts? Love the vids!

99% of the time I just click "hide" on shorts without looking for who it's from or what it might be. Stupidest format ever.

He releases to the public the next morning. Idk why he is doing shorts but you're not missing out on anything except being early to the party

He said he was testing something a few days ago. My guess is he is trying to grow viewership with shorts. So many people scroll endlessly through shorts and don't browse the youtube so I think the hope is to get some of those people subscribing and watching full length videos. He's been making the full video public the following morning. I got the bell notifications on so I get notified on everything he posts.

I like how Eric uses all his senses. This is not the first time he used a smoker and while he could see the leak he could smell it. As Diagnose Dan said recently sometimes you have to use the diagnostic tools god gave you.

I've got 04 F150. Money light on for a while, "small evap. leak". When i fill the tank completely, fuel can be seen dripping from top of tank. I live in area that doesn't require testing so I'm kicking can down road a bit longer. Great video!

Finding a mechanic/technician that actually knows how to or is willing to do what’s right is damn near impossible. It’s all about cash flow- part sales and labor costs. ESPECIALLY AT ANY THIEVING DEALERSHIP!

Man I hate evap leaks. I'm a 4Runner enthusiast and the 01-02 4runners are notorious for EVAP leaks and I've never once had a shop get them all on the first try. Wish I lived in NY, you're a phenominal mechanic.

What can anyone say about “Perfection” Your just totally not only Amazing but truly very VERY good at being AMAZING! I put in one of my earlier comments that I would love too take a trip up to you’all’s part of the world. Maybe I can make it happen one of these days. Just too meet you in person and shake your hand would be an honor Sir.

In addition, plaque loves to get caught underneath the plastic in the roof of your mouth (palate). To clean expanders, brush around the bands, plastic, and support arms of your expander, and along the gumline. Additionally, use a proxibrush every time you brush to get into the small, narrow areas.

I’ve used those lock ring repair kits on a Colorado (dead fuel pump) because we couldn’t get a new tank and all the local boneyards had sold off all the good tanks years ago, it did an OK job of sealing the new pump in.
