Masai Ujiri's love for Dikembe Mutumbo is the best tribute a person could ask for.
@OntarioAndrews415Ай бұрын
No it's not. I have no problem with Masai. However, I am sick of the media sticking a camera and mic in front of other people in the public eye. Talk to his Mother, his Dad, his sibling(s). Yes, I understand their privacy needs to be respected, but I'm thinking Dikembe had many close friends who are not in the public eye who the media could speak to. But no, they go for the Hollywood style stuff. Again, I have no problem with Masai and him missing his friend.
@wrasslin4552Ай бұрын
@@OntarioAndrews415poor take. How many people have seen this that do not know of or have heard of Dikembe the person and humanitarian? This puts more spotlight on Dikembe’s life work and hopefully it inspires us all to do more.
@OntarioAndrews415Ай бұрын
@@wrasslin4552 My take on it is a good take. You have your opinion and I have mine. When a person in the public eye dies the media always turn to another person in the public eye to talk about the person who died. They rarely, if ever, turn to a close relative or friend who is not in the public eye also who probably knows the deceased better than anybody. Also, to your point - only another person in the public eye who knew him would know of his humanitarian and can speak on it?

Dikembe Mutombo was a true legend and a source of pride for Africa. He gave generously, both his love and financial support, to his hometown, building schools, creating opportunities for young people to play basketball, and establishing hospitals in a region where 7.5 million live in poverty. It's heartbreaking that life is so uncertain and unfair-good people like him are taken too soon, often by illnesses like cancer. The world needs more people like Mutombo, whose efforts made it a better place, to live long and continue their impact. Rest in peace, Dikembe Mutombo.

Cameroonian American here. Been a fan of the NBA for decades. And you gotta realize that although I LOVED (still do) the NBA, I could never really imagine that an African could play in the League. (Olajuwon of course being the exception). Then Dikembe came along. And jeez, he looked like us, sounded like us, jeez even acted like us. (For those who don't know, the finger wag is very well known in Africa. It of course means NO but it can also mean "I am warning you for the last time and then there are gonna be serious consequences"). Add to that the fact that Dikembe Mutombo was a really nice guy, beloved by everyone and you can begin to understand why we are so heartbroken today. I can't even watch the video above or I know I am going to start crying. (And I am not particularly sensitive). Man this really hurts......
