Randy you were correct up until the 5 minute mark on this video. At that point you make assumptions. Just because an angler uses FFS does not mean they no longer use traditional bass fishing techniques. It does not have to be a "one or the other" decision. I generally start with traditional searching and catching techniques and use FFS afterwards to determine if I missed anything. Sometimes I will scan a spot that I expect to hold fish based on past experience just to see if they are there or not. If they are, I turn FFS off and simply fish for the fish like I've done for the last 40 years. For me, FFS is more of a research tool than anything else. I do think they should ban FFS during tournaments though to keep the integrity of the sport at the highest level.

Most professional athletes competing at professional level of any sport use the minimal technologies. All other pro althetes relie on their natural abilities and learned skills based on their years of training.

I think more people are going to implement FFS in their fishing . Even if they are using old school technics . They just won’t be relying on it as much as the “scopers “. Ben Milliken got 4th place in his first BASS open if I remember correctly . He scoped much of the tournament . But he also fished points with Carolina Rigs fishing more traditionally . I think you can do both. But like anything you have to develop the right strategy. I’m not a fan of FFS. But I’m curious if more guys will be able to mix in ffs with what they are already good at . Scott Martin won Okeechobee flipping beds with live scope. FFS showed him where the fish were . But he caught them flipping .

Randy, do you think the deep fish (FFS fish) exist, or stage off shore in waters that are always murky, (less than 3 ft visibility) or is it best to fish shallow?

I may be a dinosaur, but when I catch fish I am proud to know that I use knowledge, experience and skill to catch those fish and not FFS.

There’s no way you honestly believe that is the only way people are utilizing forward facing sonar. A good bass fisherman is going to be able to use both well but you totally disregard any of that. I swear sometimes you make these videos just to write people up because I know you were smarter than this rant you just made.

I agree anglers can be good at both. From a tournament perspective traditional fishing is a waste of time. Traditional fishing does not give you the ability to place you bait in front of a fish each cast. Also, you can determine the size of the fish. With FFS you are only fishing for fish 3 lbs & up. The advantage is undeniable & is a waste of time to learn traditional techniques.

I’m not great with ffs. But I’ve caught fish by just locating bait schools and casting to them. A lot of guys use ffs to stay on grass edges . Randy is incapable of being unbiased .

Here's why FFS is so important and incredibly useful. Believe it or not it has nothing to do with "seeing fish in real time and casting to them". Do guys do this ? Sure they do, particularity tournament anglers but as someone who has been using FFS on every trip for the last 2 years I can tell you using FFS has nothing to do with seeing fish. What FFS allows you to do that you could never do before is see in real time what the underwater structure out in front of you WHERE YOU ARE CASTING, looks like. Having a traditional 2D sonar or even DI on the bow is completely useless u less you are vertical jig fishing. You need to see what's in front of you. FFS allows me to follow a submerged weed line, see ditches, canals, channels, brush piles, etc, all without having to drive over the top of them. It has been a game changer for me and has allowed me to become a much better angler much quicker than I'd be able to without it

exactly, I kayak with ffs so I never get to stay locked on fish. I would say I still don't see 80% of my ffs bites. Since I don't have a heading sensor, it's impossible for me to cast at a brushpile or other underwater structure without ffs.

That's exactly why I dont like it. It's too good. It would feel like a short cut. How other ppl fish is no concern to me, as long as it's legal. However, I cant see it being a good thing when ppl are catching way more fish on heavily pressured water, as they definitely are. I think it has no place whatsoever in tournaments. The best fisherman should be able fish and find them without live sonar and all the short cuts it brings, imo. If it has to stay, they should at least make them compete with and without it. I want to see who the best anglers actually are, not who the best anglers who can use live sonar the best are. Im all in with npfl and mlf. BASS has become a 1 dimensional. It's a who can use live sonar the best wins, organization. There are times when I'm trying to locate off shore structure or would like to know if fish are there, etc but I'd rather do it my way. It's more rewarding that way to me. Im not trying to convince you, just explaining my reasoning. But, whether you or anyone disagree with my opinion about tournaments, I believe a rational person should at least see where I'm coming from?

I believe if you use FFS just stay home and play a fishing video game. All these wanna be anglers saying they dont use it to find fish. Then why have it? Theres other sonars just for mapping the ground and structures. Why have one that can see everything? So the ZERO skilled catchermen (not going to call them fishermen) can go out with a lil minnow bait and jog it in front of their FFS. Smh. Learn to fish like your dads did and tried to teach you.
