Honestly speaking, after using the pack talk bold for a few years, its totally worth it. Durable, reliable, insane battery life, and the ability to communicate directly with fellow riders has saved some of my friends from accidents. The only thing I do not like is the speakers. They are not the best quality, but I swapped them out for Iasus XSound 2.1 speakers for like 40 bucks. Its absolutely worth the money if you ride frequently.

I upgraded from the Cardo G4 to the Packtalk edge this year. I’ve had two rides with the edge and quite a few with the G4. The Edge is a definite huge upgrade. Yesterday i was able to experience using the edge while my wife used the G4 and it worked flawlessly. I was able to use the app during the ride and i am truly blown away with how well it worked. My set up is as follows: 2013 BMW K1600 GTL, Packtalk edge, Tunai firefly, iPhone, Cardo G4. With this set up i was able to play music through the bike’s speakers or my helmet. I could also communicate with my wife via Bluetooth and go right back to my music. I never lost connection and i could hear everything clearly!!! I ran into one snag which had me befuddled before the ride. I had turned on the edge and i was trying to use the app. The phone had paired to my edge but every time I went to use the app it said no device found. After about 45 minutes I decided to pair it again for the fifth time only this time I realized that there was two edge units in my Bluetooth section of my iPhone. It was then that i decided to “forget” one of the Bluetooth devices and that was the fix!!!! From then on, it was smooth sailing!!!!!

I have a similar issue. Try getting your setting the way you want while it's on and connected to the app on your phone. Then turn it off, clear out all apps on your phone. Turn it back on and should work. Something about using the app and then going to any audio messes it up.

I just bought a trio of Packtalk Edge units from Fortnine (Canadians only) for 20% off which was a good deal. At first install I did not find the sound very good but as I discovered, the sound quality and volume you hear varies MASSIVELY depending on where the speakers are positioned. The cut-outs in our helmet liners for the speakers were not anywhere close to being in the right position but a bit of playing around with the various pads included with the Cardo unit allowed me to reposition the speakers to a point where I would say the overall sound quality is very decent given their size. Installed in 2 x HJC RHPA 11 and 1 x AGV K6 Helmets. The latter was a pain as the main helmet liner is a one piece affair.
@stevey500 Жыл бұрын
This couldn't be more true. These speakers need more of a sealing-cushion on them to mate the speakers to the riders' ears. Sure, we don't want to deafen ourselves of our surrounding ambient sound but even the most basic and cheap of over-ear headphone manufacturers have had this figured out for a long time and the helmet coms manufacturers are not considering this at all. When the speakers are properly positioned/have an acoustic seal to the riders' ear, the rider doesn't need to turn the com system volume up nearly as high and it sounds tremendously better and this is why I have a pair of sabotaged $20 over-ear headphones soldered into my current coms system and modified into my helmet, the sound is nothing shy of incredible compared to how these coms systems come out of the box.

Good vid Dan. I bought the Packtalk Bold JBL duo three years ago and had nothing but problems with using the two units together. My wife and I ride two-up and wanted to share the same playlist off of my side, but still able to talk via bluetooth/mesh when needed. Did several firmware updates with Cardo after reaching out to them a few times, and the music sharing would work one out of five times if I connected the two units from the headsets. It never worked from their app! So I basically have two (expensive) Cardo's sitting in my desk drawer since. Hopefully they have stepped up their game in their "music sharing and communicating at the same time" game. So post on the "Music sharing" when you get a chance as I'm curious if they've done anything there.

The only thing I’m frustrated with is the inability to mesh connect with other brand headsets. You talk about how important it is to be able to communicate with other riders yet we can’t when we all don’t have the same brand. I know you asked this question a year ago, but you want stuff like this to disconnect in case of a crash. Nothing worse than the packtalk gripping something when all you should do is slide with your helmet, you don't want to introduce anymore stresses or strains on your head.

I purchased 2 sets of Edge Duo's and 3 of them crapped out, One right out of the box, one after a days use and the third started failing after it's first use. I could hear but not be heard. I did get replacements under warranty but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I have gone thru several Bold's because the USB charging port fails. None of my Sena's have ever failed for any reason. The charging port seems more robust on the Edge. The only reason I can see to purchase the Edge is it's more true Universal Bluetooth. I have several non-cardo/sena systems and it did connect to them. The Edge has an IP rating for it's weatherproofing but the Bold does not.

@oceanbytez8472 жыл бұрын
its a rare earth metal magnet. Its incredibly strong to the point that i need 2 hands and my wife holding the helmet to force it off via brute force (straight vertical pull from the holder). However, it was cleverly designed with a ramp in the holder. Your suppose to slide the edge forward on the ramp. This gives you the leverage nessisary to remove it one handed. It still is not easy and it takes the whole hand to slide it then at the end of the ramp the pull drops off enough that it can be easily removed. You can see here at 3:05 this is exactly how he removes it using forward force, not upward force. The sides and back are lipped so it'll catch and hold the edge. If you wreck hard enough the holder breaks allowing the edge to fly off the sides or rear, i doubt you'll be too worried about your cardo at that point. The holder itself is held on by a strong glue. Personally, i think the glue is the weak point especially in texas heat. The magnet will hold on long after the glue gives up.

With this unit when communication between driver (rider) and passenger, should there be a delay between speach vs hearing?
@scooteractual2 жыл бұрын
Been using the Packtalk Slim for the last few months and honestly not impressed at all with the rider to rider communication. Both of us have a Slim and he rarely can hear me through static or break in communication once we get to speed. Granted I am riding on a Panigale V2 with full Akra exhaust but still very difficult to make out voice once we're moving. Is the Edge an improvement over the Slim?

Could also be related to your helmet or the mic you are using

Whats stopping anyone from comming up along side you & just taking it from your helmet ? Before pushing down the little clip would make that arkward..

Hi Dan, when using this duo edge packet with the passenger, why is there delay when use intercom? I am already using 2.7 version update, and still almost 1 second delay between driver and passenger. Is there any solution ?

I’m thinking about buying the Cardo Edge dual pack . Do you know if each unit will connect to each persons phone and allow each to listen to their own Fm stations or Sirius station ? It would be great to listen to our preferences and use the intercom system .

Pretty sure you gotta use a radio app on your phone if you want to listen to XM/FM

@@392Joel I know each unit has a Fm tuner . Just didn’t know if each one would play different stations at the same time .I can get Xm on my radio and phone . We each have the app on our phone .

I've owned packtalk Slim, packtalk bold, and now I just purchased packtalk Edge, the slim lasted a couple of years and then they charging port malfunctioned, packtalk bold still works fine, I was a little reluctant of the magnetic Mount of the packtalk edge but it actually pulls it into a lock so it does stay very secure. I bought a dual pack on eBay for $530 from bike parts for less .... This is an unpaid promotion from someone who believes in cardo

I just bought the edge and I've been having trouble with the voice commands but otherwise it works great

I am not sure if the Edge likes wind noise too much. Do you use it on a 3/4 or half helmet? Also, make sure the yellow arrow is facing your lips. Moreover, the mic must be in the center of your mouth and close to it.

Also 1/8” Great review. My girlfriend just bought me one for my birthday and I can’t wait to use it. I’ve been wearing my snowmobile helmet around the house. Probably why she got it for me, to shut me the fack up😂. I’ll be using it this winter up in northern Maine with 5 other buddy’s that have them!! Again thanks for the great info!

After having taken your advice that Cardo was s good choice. I now regret it. after just 8 months my Cardo unit is dead and customer support is just short of worthless.

Hopefully it has less aerodynamic drag. I have a Shoei RF1200 and 90% of the wind noise comes from the drag on my Packtalk Bold.

As a disclaimer, i use NoNoise ear pro because my bike is straight piped and loud as fuck. It's fairly aerodynamic and does not cause a noticable increase in air related noise or pull on the helmet. With the speakers playing (i can hear them perfectly clearly as if i were not using ear pro) i can't hear wind noise at all and the engine is a low growl. This is based on my experience at speeds around 60 mph on a 92 honda shadow VT600 VLX.

I just tried the Promo cod and it says "Sorry, this promo code is not applicable to selected products." So much for that.
