I love at the end when you talked about having to work real hard, I'm about to be 42, I'm a late bloomer in skating well, but I've been skating since I'm six and never looked back, and it is now just adding up recently in the past few years where things are coming together and making more sense! Kudos man! From all of us having to work really hard guys! And if anyone out there actually reads this and can relate...Never give up on yourself, you could be made up of more than you could have ever imagined! If you give it the time! And just have fun! Thanks Dan for what you do!

I hate telling people I’ve been skating all my life because I’m 25 now and I still can’t do any flip tricks (besides varials lol). I’ve just accepted I’m a shuv guy but maybe I haven’t hit my bloom yet 😭 😂

Same here dude I'm 29 years old and I have skated on and off since I was probably about 6 years old as well. I'm not a street skater though I love bowls and I love transition. I can pump and carve like a beast and I can even get some good two or three foot airs out of some decent size quarter pipes. I can flyout to flat probably about 8 feet. but I can't kickflip for shit. I got a gnarly heel flip tho 😏

I bought this board a while back. Love it. It is my favorite board for sure. I started skating as well this year for the first time, 35. and I love how I dont have to worry about the nose or tail. I can just pick a direction and go. Definitely recommend it for anyone starting. I have had 2 other boards and this one is my far the most balanced / easy to ride.

I've got all of Andy's shapes, including the heron 7 ply, and this symmetrical is the one I like the most. The interesting thing is that these are Andy's authentic measures. No BS. Most of pro boards in the market are not the real shape and measure the rider actually rides. Like in pro tennis racquets, pros ride personalised shapes, wheel bases, etc.

I got my first one of these about a week ago, and am kind of in love with it a little bit ... I also got some deck rails and wider trucks because of your influence 😅 | I really like how it sits in smiths, the football shape does seem to make it feel cozy, that is really the best word to describe it. Between the deck rails and Andy's shape, it almost does feel like cheating for some thing 🤣

I think it's a neat shape. There's not many egg / football boards under 9", and even fewer symmetrical egg boards. I only know of the Heron 2 and Heroins 8.75" symmetrical egg. I ride 8.5 and those two feel super comfy. I'm pretty sure I've peeped a new board shape Andy's been riding in some of Nigel's recent videos. I'm curious what "idea" behind that newer shape is. I've noticed in both skating, and in music, people tend to just use things because it's "tradition" so it's nice to see some "innovation" once in a while.

Your style and way that you skate Dan, its always thrown me for a loop and for a long time i tried to determine the things thst may or may not be coming up as you skate, but what i came to realize about your style is this: nobody other than you has any remote idea of what it is you may be going for any given moment. Your skating does to my brain what listening to the grateful dead always did to my brain, i cant predict anything. I mean honestly, not a single thing no matter how in tune i think i am at a given moment. The unpredictability and spur of the moment decisions, its what makes your skating style as unique as it is in alot of ways. Its improvisatory in a really big way and it keeps everything fresh/new feeling when i watch your videos and skate segments/parts. Youve got this sort of aspect to your personality that is the same sort of way too, its not a simple task to try and predict what you might say or do. In a world filled of the same types of styles and the same types of tricks, your skating really does stand on its own with that particular vantage point youve got of keeping everything on the balls of your heels/keeping things unpredictable, whether thats what you're attempting to do or not. With the world of skating, everything is derivative, you know what i mean? Everyones style, everyone trick catalogue, even the equipment everyone uses, every single bit of it, basically, is all derived from things people have done before us. When you skate the way you do, and even more particularly when you live other aspects of your life in that same way, things fall into place in a way that isnt something that is seen every day, or ever seen before at all sometimes. That kind of approach is what kept me so interested and in love with the music of the grateful dead and the scene surrounding it over all those yeas and decades, and the same i would say for skateboarding. Traveling the country in hopes of even a brief couple of seconds, chasing after that one little sound that proves the spark of magic really and truly does exist still. I compare that same experience with what you and your friends have going for yourselves in the skateboarding realm you guys exist in. Its really a comparable kind of thing, especially like i said, in a world filled with the same, large numbers of the same. What you do while on your skateboard stands apart from "the same" that i see and experience in most aspects of our modern existence we are living in. Its a breath of fresh air man. The joy i always got from skating, its honestly not always present, much less is it always truly joyous, theres many moments where its the absolute opposite of joyous lol such is the waxing and waning of time and space and everything in between i guess , nothing is specifically one or the other, joy or pain, everything has a little bit of both of those things wrapped up into it. Your pretty damn solid at articulating your experience, thats how it comes across to me anyway. Youve got a good ability to use the sounds that come from our mouths(words 😅) to get your point across, even something as seemingly basic as day to day language and communication goes, i always found it difficult to really express how it is i feel or what it is i might be thinking. Its just a cool fuckin thing to watch yalls progressions and your idiosyncracies in action when it comes to skating and how you kind of live your life ina revolving circular pattern with your skateboarding abilities being the center of everything. Its nice to see other humans, relateable humans, be able to enjoy themselves in that kind of way that you guys do. My own life never had in store for me the ability to dedicate the time and energy i always wanted to dedicate to the things that truly made me happy and the things that truly always brought me that particular joy that everyone so desperately wants and needs. Getting to watch your own videos like these is one of the few ways i get a little respite from my day to day existing. I appreciate you spending the time and energy putting it out there for others to see. Youre the man 🤘

Flight and VX decks are great and all, but there are two major problems that deter me from getting another. A thinner board is nice, and they feel snappy as hell, but thinner just means faster razortail. I razortailed my first flight deck in 2 weeks which has never happened to me. The other problem is the rock hard top ply. Whatever it's made of, carbon fiber, fiber glass, a mixture of both, whaterver it is makes it super difficult to sink your hardware into the board when setting it up. Its nice to have the bolts perfectly flush with ths top of the board but its tough to make that happen with a harder top ply. I actually snapped 1 independent bolt from over tightening, which again, has never happened to me before. Not trying to be a hater im just sharing my experience.

@itmeurdad
@itmeurdad Жыл бұрын
Mystery is a great word. When I was a kid, it felt like pros were SUPERHUMAN. We didn't quite have the internet, at least not in the form it is today. So info was limited to magazines and unadulterated speculation and rumors. It was common to hear wacky legends about every skater, and their signature products whether it was shoes, decks, or even hardware, and because they were accomplishing such unbelievable things already, it wasn't too hard to buy in to the outlandish rumors. Now that I'm old and jaded, I recognize pros are just regular people. Hell, a good number of them could almost be my kids. The rumors and legends aren't nearly as exciting or believable. But Andy is different. The kid is a straight up alien and after seeing him describe skateboarding and the way he clearly operates on a different level of thought and obsesses over every millimeter of his decks really brings back that gullibility and excitement for me.

I have just got back into skating after 2 decades, Andy's Heron Egg is my second deck since I started back and I love it. I do wish it came in a 8.25 or 8.5 at middle but it is what it is. I really do like the flatter nose/tail and the concave really feels comfortable and I find the few tricks I can do so far are easier then with my first deck. My first deck back was a GIrl 8.5 Geering that was heavy as fuck, so I only skated it a few weeks.

New shoes are an under rated piece of equipment. I remember back in the 90s I purchased a pair of Axion skate shoes I think they were, and compared to whatever other pair I was wearing previously, probably Etnies or DC or something they felt so light weight, and the new rubber gripped better my ollies were noticeably higher. Shoes and Grip tape can improve your skating for a bit until they are worn in.
