I bought a 97 Mustang GT in 1999, and I still have the car to this day, and it runs great. Even though I have two other cars, I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.

i feel the same way about the throttle cable, i hate the electric ones, i got one on my daily car and its so unresponsive even for a v6, i even test drove a turbo i4 mazda and still unresponsive. but when i drive my 01 ranger with a v6 and throttle cable, you truly become an extension to the car and you feel connected to it and the road and they're also cheaper to fix. think its fair to say you have quicker access to more torque with a cable than you do an electric one. wonder if there's a way to swap my electric TB for a cabled one

I have a '95 GT. The original 60K miles driven suspension was horrible, totally horrible. After subframe connectors, MM Panhard bar and adjustable rear control arms, Bilsteins, good springs and bunch of other suspension upgrades its now quite close to average European sporty family car. Not even close to a sports car but much better anyways. The GT 5.0 HO engine is weak, you cannot hang with diesel VW or Audis - at all. So, bunch of upgrades needed there - take your pick. Rear end upgrade is a must. The plastic interior is cheesy and "leather" seats are horrible, like sitting on a muffin. So, new seats and some more work on the interior and it becomes ok. Then wheels and proper modern tires. And then, finally it's becomes a nice daily driver.

i mean its great that you can get these cars to that point but theres no way id sink money into one, not because its a bad car, its just not my style. i think what i was trying to get at, is these are on par with a caviler or a civic as a daily, only with a drive shaft.
@Polydeukes68
@Polydeukes68 Ай бұрын
@@UsefulEntertainment Yeah, not my style either but I inherited it so it has some sentimental value for me so I kept it. Just could not drive it with the stock suspension. My comment was continuation for your honest and realistic -theme and mainly aimed at others who might consider getting one. For a first car or for somebody really inexperienced, sure but if one has driven foreign cars or even modern domestics the stock SN95 GT experience might be less than good. Well, for a cheap car with a V8 its not all that bad if one is willing to upgrade it a bit. I haven't driven Cobras so no idea if they are any better stock other than have more power.. At least yours has a black interior, mine is that baby shit brown. And as a positive I must admit they do sound good, better than stock SBC C3-C4 -Vettes, ignition order is more racy I guess..
@UsefulEntertainment
@UsefulEntertainment Ай бұрын
@@Polydeukes68 ahh I get you, yeah I'm used to driving nothing but dinosaurs so the stock suspension isn't that bad for me but yeah, I dated a chick with a 2011 Camaro 10 years ago and I could take corners at 90 I wouldn't do 60 in with the mustang lol. Also last year I had a 2024 rental Camaro with a 6 cylinder, car was quick for what it was but it handled even better than the 5th gen. Also rented a 2024 Maxima right after and it handled almost as good as the Camaro did and. I feel you with the sentimental thing for sure, I'm glad you got it where you want it. I am glad I got the black interior, apparently they aren't too common.

@UsefulEntertainment Yeah, for sure. I commented before watching the rest of the video. While I'm not a massive car guy, I hate shit that isn't practical...wipers In your line of sight, stupid. Real headlight, dome light switch, the way it should be, gauges, etc. Stupid shit like the keys on your legs, it's mind boggling how these guys design cars and that's overlooked... my old 87 caprice classic wasn't perfect, but fuck, it was reliable. Hidden wipers, Real cast iron power steering--never Gave me an issue in the 16 years I had the car. Odd ball car and it had the Olds 307. Ran like a top. HEI ignition...christ, I'd try and flood the thing and get it not to start...always started. Coldest day (Canada) , no problem. The transmission was supposed to be shitty and was known for 2nd and reverse blowing (the model of tranny, youd know, it's escaped me), shifted perfect until i got rid. Just serviced it. Real throttle cable...etc. cars today are fucking depressing... the rust bucket clapped out 86 half ton gmc custom deluxe I had with a 350, even more simple. Don't make shit like they used to. Loved your appearance on neutral drop... Love your videos, you call it like it is...

@@bababooey7576 dude, tell me about it, I would love to have the job where I finalize interiors on cars... Fix this, fix that, this is wrong etc. Yeah those Caprices were good cars for sure and the olds 307s were kill proof!!! The tranny in that car was the 200-4R, same as our wagon was and yes, it lost reverse lol. Man, I'm glad you cought that episode of us and neutral drop 🤘🤘🤘 Shlt was fun AF.
@bababooey7576
@bababooey7576 9 ай бұрын
@UsefulEntertainment Fuck ya. And I didn't mean the Olds was oddball, I just thought it was odd they jammed it in the caprice for 87,but aside from the intake manifold gasket ,which my mechanic did a stellar job on and added some silicone around the corners, the engine wasn't the fastest but fuck it was reliable. You really couldn't kill them. I remember your videos years ago about the Olds 307 engines you were working on. Leanred a ton. The town i work for used a caprice with the Olds, for the demo derby car. Indestructible. My old mechanic had monkeyed with the timing and adjusted when it shifted (or something, lol I can't remember) , to get a bit more zip out of it. Towards the end, I put oem premium wires, oem platinum whatever they were gm plugs distributor, rotor , fuel filter etc, to see what a difference it'd make on the old girl. Christ. What a difference putting decent oem ignition parts In. Yes, the 200 r4. Did second and reverse not share the same band or something? The guy I got the car off of worked at the parts counter at a GM stealership and had done a fuckload to it in the year 2000 before I bought it. Old guy traded it in. Low ish mileage and the back seats looked like no one had ever sat back there. Decent body and I had it drowned in oil spray before winter every year. Dude had serviced the transmission and I just kept up on the maintenance of it and had it serviced almost yearly towards the end. I dont think it ever fucked up once. When I got rid, sadly, in 2016, there was one dash light over the speedo out, the rest worked . Not bad for 30 years. Front and rear bumpers were perfect. No exterior rust, dents etc. Yeah, you and your dad I'm assuming it is, seem to know cars and what makes sense. I bet the interiors would make a lot of sense if you had the final say. Those neutral drop guys are fuckin wild. Thanks for the replies. Rock on dude
