Buddy lil late getting here but the Other two the Gold + Black have a Seymour Duncan P 90 just not the new silencer p 90 whatever they call it. Honestly the original pickup is quieter than one of my single coil Fender are odd for a P 90 . I have the first edition black one . Bought used saved a little cash in as new condition with all the factory case candy .

I love how plain and simple and straight forward your videos are and your opinions on products. Your playing is just so amazing and sweet. It makes me play more feeling inspired. This guitar reduces decision fatigue in so many ways and can growl and bark and sound so sweet on cleans… I put the JJN SD Silencer in my 57LPjr…. I know …. Sacrilegious…. It was the right thing to do to make it more modern and usable…. And I play it now without NOISE and can record and do me better…. The pickup alone is the best P90 ever!!! Thanks Again for seeing someone I appreciate and am Inspired by….give great straight reviews!!! Cheers

I have two of the gold ones. I put locking tuners on them. Best neck I have ever wrapped my hand around. And I could see that the guitar inspired you. That alone makes it a winner. It's been on my shopping list since I first heard about it because I think it looks great in Pelham Blue. I struggle with the extra $250. But I still think it's worth it. Thanx for the honest review.

The gold come with a Seamour Duncan P90. I own one and the sound is great BUT the finish was so so. Intensive Fret job and hard edges around the body smoothed out , it's a good guitar. My concern is that you receive a fine tuned "review" guitar. Maybe I wrong? But as I said, I love the tone of mine.👍🇨🇦

I received the one that was hanging on the wall from a Gibson store in Nashville called the Gibson Garage. It isn’t a “press guitar”. As is, no extra work done to it. I’m sure like every store they go through them and set them up blabla. But I received the same guitar one would if they ordered it. But yes! Sick tones

Always a pleasure to watch your videos Buddy. Love your style, your simplicity & your playing. I bought the first Blues Power, the black one (hated the ugly following « double gold », but find this new Pelham Blue pretty sexy!), when it came out (at the time, it was around 750€). Had just discovered the impressive JJN, + wanted to experiment with P90 pu’s and why not the junior style, as it supposed to force you to experiment more on pots settings and pick areas on the strings for sound nuances. I really get the point of these comments about getting rather a 2 PU guitar, or a real Gibson LP/SG junior for a little more money, and I did actually hesitated to sell it for a while. It’s a Chinese Epiphone, not perfect, no nitro finish, no gibson custom selected woods (but still an ebony fingerboard), no gibson « prestige », with an extra cost being an artist signature model… But this guitar had un je ne sais quoi…, something unique… so I kept it, took it to my luthier & made a few mods: replaced the wiring/pots/caps + the wraparound which were pretty poor quality, raised the P90 a bit higher/closer to the strings, put a bone nut, & put locking tuners (just because I like it, but the original grover tuners were just fine). And it’s now the mid price keeper it was supposed to be: the original USA SD P90 is just great! (and a bit of noise is part of the P90 sound), the neck is quite beefy, 50’s style, but confortable and stable, the guitar is amazingly vibrant & resonnant (even unplugged) and has a good sustain, it is well balanced, rather light for an LP custom type : I think some weight relief in the body that gives a slight touch of semi hollow sound somehow. It’s a rock’n roll machine, but not only… It’s a pretty cool & good Epi, a no brainer with a non classy but sober and durable poly finish that you can play hard and carry around without fear, and it’s unique: LP+Custom+Junior , +pots in the traditional LP (but not the Junior) location. It’s always a pleasure to pick this one up. …But also frustrating: right guitar/ wrong hands: it always reminds me I’ll never come close to the JJN sound 😢😂.

To fill you in about the Gold glory as I own one myself. The pick-up in the gold one is actually a Seymour Duncan P90 and it sounds amazing. So what you pay extra for is a silent SD P90 and locking tuners. Both have CTS pots and Grover Rotomatic tuners, the blue has locking. And I personally couldn’t care less about locking tuners and 60 cycle hum is part of P90’s anyway.

Had to get rid of some guitars after a job loss otherwise id have them both. Black was the best though. If they still made the black id get rid of my Gibson lp jr for it. I prefer the old headstock. I bought the gold one last year...had a couple of set up issues but nothing major. I thought the pickup was good, about what I expected from a p90. But I returned it due to the cheap appearance of the top. It literally looked & felt like a piece of plastic & was severely misaligned / uneven with the binding. If you're going do a gold top LP, charge more & just get it right. This Pelham blue does look way better imo & the SD pickup sounds livelier.

The single pickup is its own thing. The one pickup sounds different than a bridge pickup setting on a two pickup guitar. The tight sound happens when you no magnetic interference around that neck pickup. I just play too much saturated clean blues and country to justify a single pickup guitar. I feel more comfortable with a guitar I can do an entire 3 hour set of covers with. I’m gonna need that neck pickup. I see the appeal and it does a thing Very cool though.

Nice playing. I have a question. Where do you get backing tracks from? I knew nothing about JJN until the other day when I saw one of these at a local guitar shop. I haven't seen single pickup guitars, except for archtops, ever. I didn't think anyone made one any more, so I was surprised to find out Epiphone made one. I'm more of an acoustic guitar guy, but I do have a couple of electric guitars I play every now and then. I never seem to use anything other than the bridge pickup on either of them. I think I'm probably going to get one of these. Thanks for the honest review.

Epiphone QC is very bad, the quality isn't what you expect from a 750 let alone 1000$ guitar. I have couple od 200$ Harley Benton guitars that feels premium compared to this one. I used to have a Gold Glory. It was a beautiful guitar, but the P-90 in it was the most lifeless iteration of that pickup I ever played. It did not have the rich harmonics that I associate with a P-90, nor did it have the sawtooth bite that is typical. I brought it over to a friend’s house, along with an ESP LTD 256P I had picked up. The difference was night and day. The LTD had the growl, the harmonic bloom, the dynamics of a true P-90 guitar, even though it was half the price of the Epiphone. IMHO, the Glory guitars are pretty to look at, but they don’t deliver the goods. They are like a beautiful girl that has had a hysterectomy.

@michaelh.7363

@@BuddyBlues i understand the intention but there is so much gain on it, that you don't get a nice breaking point and it get kind of fuzzy real quick. A friend of mine does gear reviews too and did the same thing. I ll try to explain what i mean, if you set your amp to a high gain sound, what you kind of did, and then try to controle the amount of gain with the volume you ll have the full rage from clean to high gain on that knob and now very small changes with the volume knob changes wil change gain in your sound a lot and the same with dynamic playing. So you find the position for a nice break up sound and than hit a string with a little bit more dynamic to get a little bit more gain, your sound jumps straight to high gain because the range is wide and by that the steps get narrow. If your max gain is set lower more like a fat crunch, which is enough for a p90 anyways, you'll have more controle of the amount of gain because now there is a smaller range on the same way with the volume knob. Try it, especially with dynamic playing you ll get a ton of controle and you ll not jump to high gain out of a clean just because you hit a string a little bit harder....😅 I hope you get what i mean 😉

@@BuddyBlues thanks buddy. You say you have no dog in this fight, but you titled this video as a review. We all know a 300€ squire and a 5000€ fender custom shop can sound pretty much the same. Especially through KZbin video. What we want to know is the hands on feeling of the guitar, how it plays and how the pickup sounds compared to a Gibson for example. Noiseless P90s have a bad reputation. Would love to have an opinion on this one compared to other P90s. Obviously the guitar is well set up, since it’s sent out to online reviews.. Fact that you left things unsaid makes me, the viewer question those aspects.
