One of the things I love about your trips is you are real and feel free to complain and grumble if/when things are hard, yet you also keep in perspective that the hard parts are not the whole experience and things can be really great even if there are moments that are hard and cranky. I am thinking of those trips with a lot of elevation that are really challenging and you persist and get the reward of doing something really rewarding.

Hey, Miranda, love your videos. Re: rattlesnakes: I lived in the woods w/my family for 28 years, and they do not always rattle. They blend in and are often hard to see. Best advice I can give is : be aware of your surroundings, don’t reach under rocks, jump over rocks/boulders and make noise when you are hiking and stay out of tall grass. Stay safe out there and keep making these great vids!

What a beautiful overnight backpack trip that was. I recently learned that stomping does not deter rattlesnakes. Smell and vision is how they get around. Being alert is key so we can leave each other alone. Giving them space to retreat was perfect as I understand it. I used to be scared to see one. Now I hope I see any wildlife.

Our Pacific Rattlesnakes here in Washington are the most chill and docile of all the rattlesnake species in the US. They will literally not strike unless they are stepped on. I know because I have accidentally stepped right beside one on more than one occasion.

... A close in short term outing is what the mind and spirit sometimes needs just to reset from daily stresses ... I don't thru hike and most of my outings are 3-5 days to alpine lakes to fish and just take in what nature has to offer ... If I can find others that can fit in the time and interest it's always a good time ,, but I don't always plan very far in advance so most of my extended trail time is solo ... which I thoroughly enjoy .. can make plan changes along the way if desired ... and YES ,, a small squeeze bottle of cooking oil is always a needed item in the cook kit .. .. For your pancake batter ,, check and bring ingredients to make Bannock bread ,, can be wrapped on a stick or around a Hotdog or sausage .. NO pan needed .. ... Enjoy your videos ... Stay Safe ...

Thanks y’all for all the great content!!!! It’s just so gosh darn educational and fun!!!! Now I have a few years on y’all and my camping/hiking is a little different than y’all’s but I was so glad that I heard the weights on y’all’s packs. I purchased an Atlas Adventure a while back because of the reviews and the ability to carry the media equipment I use. I love it but I seem to unpack, repack it a lot more than use it. But I guess that’s part of the fun. So I keep shaving things out of it to cut down on the weight. So last night I made up my mind to trim it down one more time and I got it down to 22 lbs. So I’m going to stop because I still have to add water and a few other things but I’m I’ve just got to go!!! So Thanks Y’all!!!!!!!

(I thought that would be most hygienic 🤷🏻♀️) I must have put it in a ziploc or old PB jar, don’t remember. My friend took coconut oil and we made it over our stove in one of those little egg pans 🍳 We added blueberries and it worked out great!

13:32 Thats a myth. inflating a sleeping pad directly does not cause the inside to mold. There are lots of other youtubers that have demonstrated that as a myth, and in my own personal experience of inflating my sleeping pads for years that way, Ive never experienced any mold.
@rickz94953 ай бұрын
Tell that to my thermarest all season sv, it is 7 years old and has had a hard life. Its full off dark spots on the inside. But with normal use probably not a problem. I got an xlite nxt to replace the all season and will only use a tinypump to blow it up(because im lazy lol)
@briandoolittle34223 ай бұрын
@@rickz9495 The dark spots are almost certainly the mylar film flaking. You can find a lot of videos here on youtube of people cutting open xlites with dark spots, and finding its flaking mylar, not mold.
@briandoolittle34223 ай бұрын
@@rickz9495 The dark spots are probably Mylar flakes coming off the reflective layer. This can happen whether you blow it up with your breath or not, and is just an issue of aging pads with Mylar layers. I cant seem to find the multiple videos Ive seen addressing this topic, but Ive seen several videos where people with an Xlite with dark spots cut open their pad and its just that, and theres no mold. The reality is, almost all the moisture is removed from the pad when you deflate it, and a pad is not a very good environment for mold to grow in. Theres no nutrients to grow in. Mold needs more than just air and moisture. Not to shame anyone for using a pump or airbag. Its WAY easier, and I bring a pumpbag myself. I don't like getting lightheaded from blowing up my enormous pad lol. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong with either method.
@alethearobinson81323 ай бұрын
Cut open one of my older Thermarest pads. It was damp and had clumps of mold/ bacteria. Soooo gross. Every breath a person exhales contains moisture and germs. That is biology.
@briandoolittle34223 ай бұрын
@@alethearobinson8132 Well, according to a lot of tests Ive seen, that is an outlier situation. Are you sure you didn't store it in a damp location? Considering your saying that the sleeping pad was damp when you cut it open, it seems like its a storage issue.
