And of course you have the people who could become new fans watching the show. Having a low barrier of entry by having promo packages and recaps makes it easier to gain new fans. Expecting people to do their research to understand why someone is being treated like a big deal isn't a good strategy.

Look, you might want to compare watching wrestling to a movie, and that's your reasoning for not looking up what's been happening, but you also don't start watching a movie 45 minutes into it. Of course you won't know what's going and will hate the movie. I suggest that if you want to do this, you do it for the length of a PPV event. So when one PPV ends, you start watching the weekly shows, give it a month, and watch the next PPV. See if they actually build some stories and feuds you like. There's a reason why The New Day have such nuclear heat at the moment, but you won't ever get why by watching a single episode.

On the topic of big guys in AEW: There have been several that have gotten pushes. Miro, Wardlow, Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs. The problem is that, outside of Joe, all of these were EXTREMELY start-stop, and left them absolutely ice cold shortly afterwards. Joe probably only kept momentum because he was working one of few interesting ROH stories that was piled onto Dynamite & Collision as its TV champion, then got the world title put on him when Adam Cole broke his ankle. He was instantly taken off AEW television after losing the world title, though. I don't know why Tony Khan has such a problem with the push of big men in particular. The only big man in AEW who consistently even has singles action anymore it seems is Brody King, and, while he wins a decent amount, it never actually amounts to anything; you could have him win a singles match every week for a year, but he's always pushed as a tag or trios guy at the end of the day still. It's not like he even dislikes big men; when the crowd started chanting "meat" for them, he tried booking a four-way "Meat Madness" match that only didn't happen because Miro(one of the four booked for it) was injured. He just constantly destroys the momentum of pretty much every big man on the roster when they're red hot or white hot by doing nothing with them.

@Unregistered.HyperCam.2Ай бұрын
@@TheMegamyGamer I'm not speaking currently or recently for Miro, Hobbs, or Joe. I'm saying when they were around, they were start-stop, or they were just poorly booked. Hobbs won the TNT title, then they immediately slapped him into that awful QTV group that immediately iced him. Miro had kind of a weird entrance to the company, but after he turned on Kip Sabian, he had pretty good booking until his injury at the end of 2022. After that, he was often put into matches or angles that didn't really help to give him momentum again. In Joe's case, I'm talking about his booking from the time between the TNT title hot-potato between him, Wardlow, and Hobbs to the time of him winning the AEW title. After that hot-potato was finished, he was still consistently present, holding the ROH TV title(with ROH championships still being pushed heavily on AEW television), but he wasn't doing much of importance for a while. It doesn't help that when he _did_ finally start getting booked better, the person he just finished a program with - and is probably the one booking it in the first place - gets booted from the company. The only reason he ended up with the world title, it feels, is because Adam Cole's broken angle prematurely ended the angle between Cole and MJF. Joe just felt like they took someone that was over enough to put the title on and slotted them into the role for the time being.

I think current WWE is showcasing that the only thing that actually matters in wrestling is characters that people care about. The actual in ring work is basically a complete afterthought with the company currently and yet they’re doing incredible business because sooooooooo many different people are over

Iyo is really good in the ring but I wouldn't call her a women's GOAT. Asuka is smoother in the ring and her charisma cuts through the language barrier way more, not to mention she's been doing it longer and with more acclaim. I never really followed Japanese wrestling but I heard of Kana and Kenny Omega before they were relevant in America.

Iyo was the bigger draw in Japan, but I agree Asuka is far more charismatic.

I can't fathom not doing research on something before jumping into it. It's probably due to being rather picky with my time, so I'd rather listen in on some synopses and opinions on certain shows, games, movies, etc, while doing something else to see whether it's worth my time. No shame though just jumping into something if you find that more enjoyable.

The one positive thing I'll say about this Moxley reign is that he got into pretty good shape for it. But I'd be much happier if Shelton or Lashley was fighting for the title (or anyone who looks like a wrestler, really - Claudio? Brodie? Brian Cage?) rather than 5'6 130lb orange cassidy. He's a fun gimmick, but I also would have bitched if Disco Inferno was wrestling DDP for the world title.
@reddeath5791Ай бұрын
To be fair I highly doubt they’ll put the belt on Cassidy at least right now. I feel Moxley’s gonna have one more fantastic run as world champion and ideally it’ll be like his first reign but longer and with a storyline running at the heart of the reign because as much as I love Moxley’s first reign there isn’t really an overlapping story tying the whole thing together

I think the better chance AEW had with big guy was with Wardlow. He was over, but MJF was more at the time. Still, i agree that both shows wasn't something that i would recommend for someone who was changing a channel and just think about stop there. One side has wrestling but without story, and in the other side it has story but almost no wrestling. In the end there's no balance between both shows.
@Marysya_1483Ай бұрын
It's actually insane, looking back to what was done to Wardlow after MJF feud. Just complete burial.
@aallen9287Ай бұрын
You nailed it. I actually would consider myself an AEW fan but I stopped watching it after the last PPV because there isn't really any consistent and clear story telling. It is bizarre because there are stories taking place but they aren't clearly explained via video package and if you are lucky you get a quick rundown by Excaliber. They focus on the same group of people which is ridiculous when they have such a deep and diverse roster of athletes in the men and women's divisions. I might watch Raw when it switches to Netflix but the lack of wrestling isn't making me want to waste 2 houra either. I guess I will just watch Lucha Underground again and imagine what could have been 😅

@tonglomp it truly was the best wrestling show/series I ever saw. It honestly should be the blueprint for a even better show but it hasn't come to pass. I will say that the story of Hangman Page in AEW was possibly the spiritual successor to Lucha Underground in some respects.

The whole thing with WWE right now is that they're so far ahead of any competition that people will pay or watch wrestlers talk. Most of the time the matches get in the way of the stories. For your next idiot series you should look at AEW's Full Gear vs WWE's Survivor Series. WWE is way better at story telling through matches because they make sense. Not every match is a gimmick match or a spot show. AEW's matches are more like dream matches or ideas the wrestlers have because they sound good or it was something done years ago and they want to try and recreate it. The other thing hurting AEW is the commentary team.
@ChrisLamiaАй бұрын
I agree but will add a distinction that I don’t think they’re so far ahead that people will pay to watch them talk. I think the reason they are so far ahead is because people want to pay to just watch them talk. Stories and characters are always wayyyyy more important than the actual wrestling and there’s really just countless characters that people are very invested in with WWE right now.
@ddous1Ай бұрын
@ChrisLamia 100% agree and thank you, that's what I meant to say. WWE has taken the time to let the wrestlers be fleshed out and a logical reason to give the audience a chance to invest or care. Unlike other companies that just throw wrestlers into a ring because they had a great match years ago that most people won't or don't care and there's not a story or build up to get you interested.

obligatory "this wasn't the best episode of RAW" lol. Nah but in all seriousness Iyo Sky really is one of the best in-ring wrestlers in the world right now. Plus, she oozes charisma which helps out a lot. She has a match against Liv Morgan for the belt this Saturday so that is why she was all over the show. For context, this was the go home show for a special show this Saturday called "saturday Night Main Event"; it's kinda like a mini PPV/PLE but on free tv as a special. That is kinda why it was more lowkey and "filler" as every match had been set-up for the most part for weeks by now. I think SmackDown is the better show right now in-general, even when RAW is better like it usually is for what its worth. I'd love to see you watch an episode of NXT one day as it is a really funny show. It's developmental for WWE so it is a lot more weird and takes risks entertainment wise; it's a bit wacky sometimes. There was recently a storyline involving a brick attack which is what ended your video haha. The men's division is kinda weak at the moment but the women's division is arguably the best in wrestling and has a lot of upcoming stars in WWE like Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, Roxanne Perez, etc.
