The Main Point: The skills in flight sims, in a lot of ways, are game-agnostic. The basics still apply and balancing aggression is one of them. Push yourself out of your comfort zones and see what happens when you go aggressive. You don't know what you can get away with until you try/find out. I die all the time being too aggressive but I personally find the most fun when I go super agro and get away with it. The greatest pilots I know are the ones that can balance aggression and use the aggression of others against them - this is something I am still working on. Let me know what you think in the comments. I will have a video in the next week or two showing how being overly aggressive can get yourself burned to make sure I drive the point home that all out aggression is not a good idea - it's a balance.

I think the biggest difference outside of the spotting is that there is just less room for mistakes in the DCS fligth model. Chalk that up to possible more "realism" perhaps, or just quirks. The engine management on specifically the Allied fighters keeps people from using their throttles as actively as well. Things you can get away with in IL2 don't translate well often to many of the DCS equivelents. Honestly the 109 is probably the most forgiving in that aspect of ALL the warbirds in DCS.

Okay having the lesson being told in front of a not so successful landing was really funny! Good video keep it up

I did this on purpose for two reasons. 1) I know most of my viewers are from IL-2, so I thought it would be good to show some extra particulars from the DCS Warbirds Damage Model. This is why I ejected on the ground to give a close up of the external. 2) I am not sure if that was really that just bad of a landing or if one of my gears was damaged/tire popped.

To be aggressive just for the sake of being aggressive is just a gamble. Its a toss of a coin. Sure you can surprise an enemy. And overwhelm someone with the necessary skills. but as soon as you meet someone who realises the bluff and knows how to handle the aircraft you are dead. I think you can get out of it more than you die, but you wont be consistently successful with the approach. A good balance needs to be found.

I find myself in moments where time stops and I ask myself, am I going to be smart and play more defensively/patient or am I going to go all in to experiment. I try to make sure it's for the sake of experimentation and not out of greed (or overconfidence). When I think back about when I first started to fly to now, I do remember key moments that I felt that I unlocked because I was willing to push myself out of my comfort zone to see if I could overcome the situation by being a bit more aggressive and not just to run away. Dying due to my own greed or overconfidence is probably my #1 reason for dying so I am still working on balancing it so ultimately, I agree with you that finding the balance is the key. Thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts.

Another well thought out video. Just starting out in DCS , I find that the Spitfire is much twitchier than IL2, particularly the elevator trim. This makes it more difficult to make either aggressive moves or defensive manoeuvres, but you seem to be getting a handle on it. 👍

Good video 👍🏻 reason I am not that aggressive is for engine management and keeping speed up. The p 51's usually come in packs when the server is full. When you target fixate and turn too much they kill you easily.

Great video as always however I just wanted to point something out real quick. I noticed that you didn't have the MW50 switch on. In the 109, the MW 50 is engaged when you go full throttle (past a certain detent). You may have noticed that the aircraft was shaking involuntarily when you went full throttle, If the MW50 switch isn't armed when you go full throttle you'll break the engine in minutes of continues use. The boost basically works like an afterburner detent. Don't be afraid to manually open the radiators as well when using boost.
@Enigma893 жыл бұрын
I "dry boost" the 109k4 quite a bit. You can get away with it for a tiny but before the engine explodes. Max aggression 😬 would not advise it but trying to get s feel for the engine tolerance. I have blown up many engines in my testing 😅

Flying on the deck in DCS feels like il2 except youre flying at 9k, can't see, have 4x the rudder authority, and yaw oscillations do not dampen
@DBSTH0R3 жыл бұрын
Very nice flying. My take from this is you have more experience from IL-2 than these guys. That last Spit probably didn't use rudder or didn't trim for the speeds he was flying at - thus spun into the dirt like that. AAA is scheduled to be toned down from what I saw NineLine posting somewhere. They do acknowledge it is too accurate. Probably re-used code from the modern guns.

IL-2 players are just flat out better. Guys come over from shooting misses and going Mach 1.7 and really don't have the experience for knife fights at tree top level. A good Il-2 players can get out of 3v1 situations and go home to tell about it.

Great flying & shooting! I’m looking at DCS & IL2, and while I may eventually buy both, which do you recommend starting on?

It depends what you want out of the game and what you want to do. If you are looking for a complete multiplayer experience that includes a dynamic campaign then you have to go IL-2. If you really want a full fidelity experience then you have to go to DCS but the multiplayer situation isn't as viable as IL-2. If you want to fly modern jets also then DCS is the clear choice. If you really only want WWII then IL-2 is probably the best bet. Also depends on how much money you want to spend, IL-2 is far cheaper.

Thank you for leaving a comment, I am glad you are enjoying the videos. "Worth it" is hard to say, it depends on what you want to do. If you are going to be flying a lot and only in multiplayer for dogfighting, then yes you will want them. If you only fly one side and only do one thing (like ground attack) then you may not need them all. Sheriff made a very good buyers guide. I would like to add some commentary over this if permissible. You make some very good moves here, but I see places where you're giving up great opportunities to consolidate advantages and get into a killing position quicker. Especially in the first fight.
