He forgot to add "uphill, both directions, during regular blizzards, without shoes to keep the feet warm, wearing a coat with holes in it, in hand-me-down clothing, carrying a really heavy backpack that he kept stitching up, with a paper bag for lunch that was supper's table scraps on stale bread, wearing garage-sale eyeglasses and borrowed underwear, and all the while being grateful for what I had." Do older family members still use the "You don't know how great you have it" schtick? I know they did in my day. Because of technology, people my age don't need to make sh^t up for those stories... however, a lot of the LACK of certain technologies made our time nicer. We had things like privacy (you get nailed to the wall for even talking about violating the mythical right to privacy), good ways to handle bullies, better average fitness, eating disorders were mainly starving types so obesity was not an epidemic, people even pretending to be news sources get ruined if they stray from journalistic integrity, you could bury the stupidity of your youth, hackers were a threat to very few and needed to be elite to actually be threats, identity theft was easy to fix - hard to pull off - and was rapidly punished with a heavy hand, etc. Life in our day was hard but we also didn't have a lot of the common headaches that exist now... now, technology allowed even the dimmest people to easily be problems and criminals.

I'm having this issue at the moment. Just took in a kitten that's about 6-8 weeks old and he's high energy (total extrovert) now that he's settled in and recovered from his surgery. We weren't planning on adopting another cat while we still had our older one, but we found this kitten with a severe eye injury (ultimately lost his eye) and no one would take him, so we're keeping him. Our older cat who is around 12 used to have an older companion cat who died a few years ago and they got along well, but they were both such chill cats. Now this fuzzy terror is running around and has absolutely no chill or cat-manners so it's been a bit of a slower introduction this time around. He's not crazy out of nastiness just overly playful, and our older cat hasn't indicated any hatred to the kitten (just very wary and befuddled). Our older cat has always been a shyer/weaker-willed cat so trying to keep things slow and build up his confidence in this situation a bit more so the kitten doesn't dominate the house..

It's really interesting, there is so much to know about cats, but then they also have their very specific personality. I introduced a kitten to my 14 year old cat - never had a kitten before and was afraid of exactly these problems, but the kitten needed a home so urgently, so I tried - and my old male cat just loveslovesloves the kitten. My other cat on the other hand, who is still quite young, could easily do without the kitten, but they get along

We had two eleven- year old cats when we adopted a new kitten. When Jingle arrived, yeah, Shadow thought he was a nuisance. He mostly tried to ignore the little, hyper brat. Of course, Jingle hated to be ignored; so he occasionally got a smack from Shadow until he learned the rules. Fortunately, Demon thought Jingle was great. In fact, he went through a second kittenhood, trying to keep up - and we had one little orange bullet and one big, round, 20 pound black cannonball bouncing off the walls. Its a wonder they didn't knock the house down 😨😨🤣🤣🤣

Dominant one is starting to accept the smells and come in the house more now. But took a whole day for her to come in the house. We moved little ones base camp to the upstairs bathroom so eldest had the Downstairs to herself and she’s feeling more confident. She came upstairs for the first time last night! So slow but hopefully they can co exist x

When I have intentionally added a young cat to the family I have always gone with two and it works really well. I used to get two and when they would age and one pass over the rainbow bridge, when I was ready I would get two kittens. It seemed to give a new lease of life to the older cat while also giving them the chance to not be involved in the youngsters shenanigans. Over the past few years I have had strays turn up which has changed things somewhat, I get them vet checked and neutered and if they are a good fit with the others (ie the cat family vote yes), they can stay. Otherwise it's rehome. My oldest is 18 and nearly completely blind, my youngest around 2. There is respect to the old girl or a face cuffing to the youngers. She may not see them well, but she can still land a punch if provoked.

This is exactly what we’re going through with my two younger cats, both 3yr olds. And my moms two older cats, both 8yr olds. My moms oldest of her two litter mates is the alpha so she’s not bothered by my two. Her other cat is the Runt of the alpha’s and often is chased by my two young energetic cats. Mom and I have both been making an effort to play more with all the cats. Before watching this video I actually started noticing my energetic Bombay’s energetic streaks and have been trying to match it to run his energy out. This video was confirmation. Thank you cat daddy for the help, the real, and the genuine. And sharing your content here on KZbin. Thank you so so much!!! My moms cat Runt has been licking her fur off. We’ve took her to the vet and we’re trying different things from playtime with all the cats to calming cat specific diffusers, as well as creating positive moments between my two and my moms. We decided to start having our cats eat lunch together as it’s the only meal on the same schedule. I work third shift. Mom and I have been learning from “My Cat From Hell,” and are so thankful for the learning opportunity we have from this community on KZbin. Thank you EVERYONE! ❤️😻😻😻😻❤️

We got a harness and will introduce it to him slowly. Today my husband played fetch with Koji. He’s been working with him and they played five rounds. Toss the mouse and say “fetch”. Koji pounces. Then Steven says “bring it” and the mouse is dropped into his hand. Lavish “good boys” given with his favorite treats. We even have it on video.

You’ve read my mind! I haven’t watched yet but hoping for some help. All my kitten wants to do is love on and play with our older cat and he gets very aggressive and vocal with him as a result. He’s even taken to growling (those guttural ones we’re all familiar with) when the kitten is nowhere near him or if the kitten even moves or walks past! He’s become more reclusive, doesn’t sit in the living room at night and sleep next to us anymore... and my kitten doesn’t get the picture! Going to watch it now and hope for a solution!🤞🏼

Okay update after watching video! I do play with my kitten cause he has a lot of energy but maybe I need to ramp it up a bit more. I take him outside daily on a harness but it has to wait until the evening when it’s cooler due to the heat here in California. I don’t really have the opportunity to do it in the morning because of the heat and work. My older cat, however, is an indoor/outdoor cat (has been that way since my mom got him at a year old) and he escapes outside as soon as he’s allowed. This isn’t very unusual compared to before the kitten, but he is now much more impatient and vocal when he is not allowed out. My kitten will pounce on my cat to play and is immediately hissed, swiped and growled at. He will also sometimes chase my older cat because he thinks it’s a game. Besides additional play, how can I get him to stop jumping and chasing him? They eat breakfast and dinner at the same time frame every day and their bowls are close to each other. Here is no problem because they’re focused on eating. Sadly, a kitten playmate is not in the cards because it was difficult enough to convince my dad to get the kitten and he will definitely not allow another! If anyone has any additional advice specific to my cats, please let me know! I will be much appreciative!!🙏🏼

@@AllThingsThatMatter You and I are in a similar boat. I just rescued two siblings, girl and boy. My older cat, almost 9 years old, is not thrilled about it at all. They are extremely energetic and want to play with him sooooo much, but he doesn't want to. He has finally gotten so he will be in the room without constantly growling if they leave him alone, and fortunately they have each other to play with, but there are flair ups. I have noticed that when he reprimands them he actually doesn't try to hurt them. If he wasn't growling it would look like he is play wrestling. I am hoping things will get better with time.

@@jessicagrande6760 it’s definitely improved a lot with more time. My kitten is now a year old so he’s matured and settled down a little bit more, still very rambunctious and young, but they are getting along more. They’re definitely not best friends or very close, I think my older cat at 10 years is just too used to his solitary life, but he tolerates him. They do still fight, initiated on both sides, but it’s clear that it’s more play fighting than anything else. We also took my older cat to the vet and we have him on anxiety medication now to help calm him down. Around the same time as we got the younger one, we had to make him an indoor cat only instead of indoor/outdoor because of coyotes in the area, so that was not helping either!

I got lucky with my second cat experience! I had prepared the base camp and was ready to do the several-day introduction process, but my new kitten (3-4 months?) leapt from the box and met Macchiato (my 8.5-month-old Torti girl) immediately. I supervised the entire time, tried to be calm about it, watched them play, and tried to separate the little boy as planned after an hour. When I did that, Macchiato started meowing, which set the kitten off, so I reintroduced them and they started play-fighting. I tried putting him in the travel carrier so that they could be in the same room together and process each other. Then, they both started meowing again at me, so I let him out. Less than two days later, Macchiato started grooming him and he would follow her around wanting her attention. On Day 3, he started to request her grooming, so she now does so and he rarely growls or hisses if she goes a bit too rough. The fact that they bonded so quickly was not only a huge weight off my shoulders; it was a sign that I had found the right pair of kitties to share my heart and home with. They now sit together, play with each other (and me), eat together, and even meow at me or use the litter box at the same times. I couldn't be luckier.

Okay..... We had a cat in our house who did not like other cats at all, very jealous kitty. At the same time, very lonely kitty so we got her a kitten to play with and she just LOVED IT. However, he turned out to be a very playful kitty and a fairly large one too but peaceful. As he got bigger she disliked him more and more everyday, he was such a handful. So yeah we did go for a third kitten. Guys.... He was so excited he hardly tolerated the introduction waiting period. One day we had the kitten in the living room with a screen up so they could sniff an see each other without touching and at one point, I got busy doing something and the kitten got out😮. I didn't even notice for a little while but when I finally figured it out those two buds had completely bonded and it's been that way for a year now. So having a young kitten around for another young cat to play with will make all happy 👍👍👍

I'm dealing with something similar, I have a 9yo cat and recently got a 10ish week kitten. Kitten's really clingy and despite me trying to drain her energy with toys and all, she still wants to play with the other cat. They do chase each other around the house, dispute their territory over the 3rd litterbox and so on. My older cat, though, she's used to being the baby of the house and she'd always cuddle with me and sleep near me...now whenever I got some alone time with her, it's always interrupted by the kitten and she's really bothered by it, so much that she hisses at me, or at the kitten, or both, and she keeps her distance from me. I try to get her into play sessions and she's clearly interested and she does play. It's just that at that exact moment, even though we have like 50 different cat toys, the kitten wants to play with the toy we're already playing with, so my older one either loses interest or gets angry and leaves. It's pretty sad, because I never intended for her to feel replaced and I also miss her. I give her extra treats and all, but it doesn't make up for the fact that she's not the only cat in the household anymore.

I always follow JG recommendations of scent, making them eat behind a door, never see each other, and once the encounter on a positive vibe w adult supervision lol, yes about cats supervised. Do not ever let them figure it out and try as much as you can it is a good encounter. I was quick to bring the kitten when the domestic was 10 months old. JG knows well and his recommendations are accurate. They will have a little hissing, probably some pulled hair, but it will pay off. Bring a foster kitten if cannot keep another one. My two kittens/teenage cats are now best friends. The domestic cat has mellowed out, much more playful. I cannot have a 3rd, if ai want to keep feeding them quality food. Between cat litter, food, veterinary visits and just the time needed for them, two cats max for me at least for now.

I wish everyone would understand there is a limit to the amt. of cats they can comfortably have.Sometime 2 cats have a warm, affectionate relationship and if you adopt a third boy yoeu're in trouble!It can affect the balance in the household.Cats don't need just a home but TIME for each one. Time for grooming, cuddling, playing and being paid attention to. Also even a kitten may get sick or have a terrible accident and you'll end up with a huge vet bill. Be prepared. to have enough money. If you have 2 or 3 cats they could all get very sick at the same time! Adoption is an important time to really think about having ALL the resources you need for your cat.

my two male cats are 7 and female cat is just 2 months old, this makes me really happy to know ive been doing the right thing with them meeting! they eat together and I play with her before she sees them so she's less crazy. both boys like watching her as she runs around and plays with me, but she's far too small right now to play with them properly. about 6x smaller than them big boys to be exact. they're both still a bit hissy with her currently but no swatting so far, that's gotta be a plus for cats who've never even met a kitten. earlier today she ran up to one of my male cats and rolled onto her back and he didn't hiss which was awesome. I was told male cats accept female kittens better than male kittens because they don't feel threatened, it's definitely showing. they aren't being aggressive and just walk away when she's being too high energy. I love cats!! ❤

Our mismatched age story: Miss Tuxie was 15 and had her fill of naughty boy companions. She was also battling kidney disease. She was a mellow cat, seldom mewed, purred big, but did stand up for herself. Enter Oscar, less than one year old hugh ginger tom who was a very genial guy. He fell head over heels in love. But Tuxie didn't accept his advance. We actually heard her growl for the first time, defending her water fountain! Oscar just rolled over on his side like "sorry ma'am". She allowed a lick or two when in the mood, or a little cuddle when chilly, but the hysterical thing was the time Oscar was giving her a lick and she grabbed his ear and started to bite it in frustration! Rather gum it, she had few teeth. Oscar pulled back and I thought he was going to bop her but he just sat there like "what the fudge?" When Tuxie never came back from her last trip to the vet, Oscar searched for her. He settled down and now is a contented single.

Hi Jackson. I’m from Peru. I have two female cats. Asia is 6 y/o and Luna 5 y/o. I adopted both when they were 5 weeks old. Asia is one year older. Their behaviour with each other is exactly the same as these two cats. It’s not an age difference issue. I think is jealousy and both want territory and human possession. They share eating space and litter with no problem. But my bedroom and tv room is Game of thrones.

I got a second cat (kitten) about 2 months ago. We are still stuck on just feeding together and playing next to each other. The moment my kitten gets close to the older cat, my older cat freaks out. Even across the room, my older cat is hissing (and growling) at the kitten. Before getting even close to her. It seems like she's more scared of the kitten than aggressive though, as she keeps her ears up. We work with the base camps, schedules, and plenty of affection and treats, but it's not working yet. My older cat even seems to grow a bit adverse to my partner sometimes, which works in the kitten's base camp (the study). Unfortunately, we do not have enough room for a third cat (and basecamp). We're just going to keep trying and might try just letting the kitten roam free throughout the entire apartment. See what her big sister will do...

@@twocathome399 They don't hang out together, but they live next to each other peacefully enough. It helps if they are around the same age; my older cat just wants to chill and kittens would rather play. Simply keep up routine, switching territories and swapping scents and it will work out eventually. (Whether it takes a month or a year.)

There is currently a very similar dynamic developing between my two cats. They are 8 and 10 years old and have been living together for 7 years. However the 10 year old has shifted to old man energy, while the 8 year old is still as playful as a kitten. And the tension between the two is rising. Her favorite game is playing chase, which I as a human can't simulate all that well, so I have been contemplating to introduce another cat that can match her energy.

So true! I have a 2 1/2 year old cat, a 1 1/2 year old cat, and unexpectedly got a kitten! The 1 1/2 year old and the kitten I think will still have a lot of fun playing once they get used to each other, but so far they are all getting along with short sessions. Kitten still in base camp going into week 3, but is released from "kitty jail" frequently! He likes to stick his face into the other cats' faces, lol! THIS! I wish he would discuss more troubleshooting stuff in detail. Like what do you do if you did the intro right, but the resident cat starts swatting the kitten, and the kitten doesn't stop wanting to play and doesn't get the hint? Let them continue? Limit the time together? How much time? How many times per day? And more video clips of what "normal" swatting is like and what concerning behavior is like, etc etc... It's all great info, but way too general.
@evhimwtfan
@evhimwtfan 3 жыл бұрын
@@sbkmarkel i did supervised together time. It took a couple of months for the resident cat to initiate play. He has enough after a few chases and then lets new cat know he's had enough. If she doesn't get the hint, I step in and play with her. Also, I think that as long as they're not hissing and growling at each other a few swats (no scratching!) are okay. You will learn to notice aggressive behavior the more you know your cat.

I have a 4 year old cat that lost it's buddy to kidney failure 4 months ago. They were best friends for 3 and half years. It was so hard when we lost Oreo and my kids and I decided to get another kitten to give company to my grieving cat after a few weeks. I have done this twice before with my other cats and it worked but not with Nickels. They eventually got along but I had no idea when I got our kitten, Luna, that she was a bengal mix. Her energy was too extreme for Nickels even though we played with her a lot to drain her energy. Nickels started growling at Luna and hissing at her. So then we decided to get another kitten, Tuxie, that my son always wanted of his own to have and to also to play with Luna and help leave Nickels alone. Nickels didn't react well to another kitten again but he liked watching them play but would get nervous if they would go near him. Now after 4 months, Nickels is getting worse with them. He is attacking them now a lot more and is becoming so much more aggressive that it is really concerning me. We have tried to make Nickels feel loved, so he doesn't feel ignored, try to play with him, even feed them together but Tuxie acts like the Nickels use to do with his buddy Oreo, and tries to eat from his food while Nickels is eating. He gets hissed and Nickels runs away, I have to keep grabbing Tuxie to not eat out of Nickels food. The kittens constantly play with each other, so they do leave Nickels alone but he is starting to scare me at how nasty he is getting with our 5 and 6 month old kittens. What do I do in this kind of situation?

We just lost our 15 year old cat Goblin last week. He was the king of the house. We now have 2 seniors and two 1 year old calicos. Thankfully, they all get along. I think we introduced the kitties well. Anyway, they still have their kitten energy. It is ok to play with them so much while our seniors watch? Our seniors still get our love ( Goblin's sister Ghost is on my lap purring as I type this) but sometimes I feel like maybe they get jealous when we play with the kitties. Our cat family is Ghost (15), Shadow (12), and Angela and Demona (1).

We adopted an 11 year old female cat who's a little more shy 5 days ago. Our resident male cat is just over a year old and is more outgoing and playful. Unfortunately in order to adopt her, we had to introduce them straight away. They were okay for about 15-20 mins but then she would hiss if he came near her even when he was just curious. Now she lets him come and have a sniff and vice versa and they mostly leave each other to it. (Slept on the bed together the first night, just seperately) We have 3 litter trays but she for some reason will only use the one furthest away in the house despite often being ambushed playfully by our resident cat when she comes down. She seems to have chosen the bedroom as her own Basecamp. And when they're both in there they are fine together. But downstairs he seems to get too intruiged and will chase/run at her (playfully, who usually trills when he does it, tails up friendly too) but she doesn't like it and will growl or hiss at him. She then usually heads back upstairs and stays in the bedroom for a long while. These videos are helpful, I will try keeping him separate in a room for a bit to give her chance to get used to the downstairs without the threat of being ambushed, and bring some of her sent soakers down also. 🤞 Fingers crossed he learns she doesn't want to play with him whenever she walks downstairs! We play with him to try get his energy out but he still does it sometimes, particularly when she just arrives downstairs

I would like to see some outdoor cats content as there are common issues that probably need different solutions. I have the same problem between my new kitten and my brother's cat that mostly lives in our shared big garden. She hisses and growls and eventually subdues my kitten when she gets too close. It's four months now and I was able to make the old girl to barely tolerate the new girl. YT videos are mostly about indoor cats situations. So I have no clue how to reintroduce them or how to fix their relation. I'm raising Jessy indoor(mostly) and outdoor(she loves it!). As soon as I'll spay my kitten I will let her outdoor more often, so I need to know how to manage an old fart vs a hyper youngster in a vast territory.

The two of them are absolutely fine together until my younger cat starts trying to play. My older cat is very vocal, so she yells very loud and hisses at him when he wants to play. I was afraid he was hurting her, but I'm pretty sure she just never wants to play.

My cat at home is 6 years old though ... she is a hyper 6-year-old and she plays pretty well with our 3-year-old ferret. I'm hoping the ferret will drain most of the kitten's energy and vice versa. Maybe my older cat will be relieved that the ferret isn't pouncing on her quite as often with the kitten to do most of the wrestling.

hi! I'm having a lot of issues with my older cat Malfoy (5½) and my new kitten Amadeus (4 months) Amadeus gets over anything so the only way of keeping them separate is a closed door. Amadeus play fights with Malfoy as soon as he ses him. Malfoy dosen't want to play and hisses, growls and smack Amadeus but Amadeus won't stop. the gate I have is 2+ meters tall and the top half is covered in plastic. Amadeus gets over it. I don't know what to do since I've done everything I can and did all the preparations. Amadeus is getting nuddered when he's 5 months. Malfoy can go outside but now that it's getting colder and he's inside more it's a real issue. I remove Amadeus after a few minutes and put him in the bedroom when he won't stop going after Malfoy. nothing distracts him. I play with him a lot and I try to redirect his attention to toys instead on Malfoy but nothing works. Malfoy is a gentle giant and leaves Amadeus alone and tries to remove himself from the fight. Amadeus chases after him and tries to play fight. Malfoy warns him but he dosen't listen so Malfoy tries to get away and when he can't he slaps Amadeus (no claws) Amadeus continuous. I'm at a loss for what to do. I've rewarded positive interactions and interrupted negative ones but Amadeus won't stop. I really don't know what to do. I can't find anything helpful on the internet. If you know how to fix it please help me. I'm not giving Amadeus away because of this. he's family now and will always be. I just need help to get him to stop chasing after Malfoy and reprogram him to be nice to his brother. Amadeus took over the apartment as soon as he got here. he was out of his carrier as soon as it opened. he has no fear at all. what can I do to help him and Malfoy?

I have a similar problem. So, I have three cats. Maja, 17 years, Tetris, 10 years and Garrus, 5 months. Tetris and Garrus plays and gets along very nice. Maja has always been a solo cat, she never liked other cats, but she tolerates Tetris. She's fine with Garrus too, unless he tries to play with her; which is quite a lot. I can tell by now he is a very active kitten, and I do my best do play as much as possible with him to get his energy out. But those times he goes at it with Maja, which is a couple times a day, she let's him have it. I don't interfere, because I had hopes that he would learn and understand from Maja setting her boundaries. But he doesn't. Will he maybe calm down after getting neutered?
