I live in an apartment, and several things you teach help me. You have shown me gardening and woodworking techniques that I use daily. I collect seeds from my plants, add mulch to my garden, use bio char, and plant tea to improve the soil. I also add gypsum to help break down the clay soil here in Texas. I grow sunflowers, poblano peppers, and tomatoes. The hummingbirds and cardinals love the sunflowers and they live in the shrubs that grow here. I do not feed the animals or birds, but grow things that they eat, like millet between the sunflowers and birds of paradise flowers to attract them to my area. The grey squirrels are destructive to some of what I grow, but most of the trees are up in the front of the property. I live near the back. No trees, just shrubs. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me.

So what if you make mistakes, you still get it done and it’s all unique. For me, building the present cabin was thrilling to watch. The huge tree logs, each one hand picked- carefully selected and dragged through rough terrain to the site. Then scooped, leveled and mounted-just you and a wench. I am brand new to and just discovered your channels. I am not a patron, but I appreciate videos like these, so I was curious. Thanks for your work. It makes sense to want a close connection with others. Sometimes I get dissappointed when creators focus on the majority of people that may not pay that much attention or be as dedicated or caring about what they're being given, and their response. I think it's interesting when creators take the time and energy to want to interact and engage personally with a person or group of people that pay attention, care, and put a lot of energy into that. It's unfortunate to me that some people are really turned off by and don't want to hear opinions different from their own that they might not agree with. But it proves and makes the people who decide to stay, because they've found something from you they value more, all the more valuable. Thank you for being open.

Hi Shawn - I’m not a patreon member, but have always enjoyed your content - youre honesty has always been a plus. I’m considerably older than you and have learned so much from your videos. I grow a 1 acre garden most of which I donate to our local rural food bank, but it also supplies my husband and I food for the whole winter and quite often until the next harvest season. I was super interested when you had the all year round greenhouse and was disappointed when you got rid of it as I was trying to save enough money to get one and wanted to see how well it operated. I have freeze dryers so I can preserve lots of extra food for bad times to come. Keep on doing what you can on KZbin- I will definitely be watching and learning.

Thank you for being clear and up front. I get the effort you put forth and understand the reasons for discontinuing Patreon. There was redundancy. Your desire to educate and connect with the wider homesteading community to exchange info is not lost on me and my wife. We were patrons. But for us, although we thoroughly enjoy your videos as our Friday night routine, we watched largely to gain information and learn. I have many questions! We are building our homestead now, transitioning out of our jobs, and take to heart what you have to teach. We are part of this community and strive to learn all the time…to us that is what homesteading is in large part; learning and adapting! A while back you mentioned you always had a great interest in teaching others your skills and sharing ideas and knowledge through teaching. I got excited by that and told my wife I would be one of the first to sign up! So I’m putting this out there: would you consider a platform or way, virtually, to connect to the community through a webinar or chat session with people like me that want education and learning out of what you have built upon and share; to talk, discuss, ask questions; to connect to those that don’t just want to live vicariously through you?

I really been watching you I guess for over a year. I do enjoy your content and it gives me a way to escape every day whatever. But I have to live every day stuff and I have to prepare for every day stuff. If I wasn’t 75 now close to 76 would’ve started over like you. I don’t have the strength and the ability to do that at this time. However, you have given me a lot of information that helps me. And I just so loved watching you build that cabin from scratch and my husband passed away in 2006, but he told me about a lot of the tools that he used because he was older. And he grew up in the depression. So a lot of things that you did they had to do back then. But I do love the part. You know how to use the new tools. But you know how to use the old tools if you can’t use the new tools and I thought that was amazing. Yes I do know how to use some of those because I did some when I was young. I’m learning from you even though I can’t do some of the things I would love to do that. I used to be able to do so yes I’m living through some of the things you do. And you have an awesome wife let you do your hunting and all the things that you do and that is what is a real marriage because you’re not out doing things you shouldn’t be doing that part you’re not doing bad things. Yes I went through it because my husband was in the Navy the first one and he was gone a lot and I didn’t know till I found out and then he had been going on for years. It made me strong and have to learn things that I didn’t know I would have to learn. But I am so glad that my father taught me a lot because I wasn’t feminine blah blah, no I’m not that kind of woman. I love my husband greatly but we worked hard together so keep doing what you’re doing because I so enjoy it and I know so many others do stay strong because you’re getting up in age too so make sure everything works out so it’ll be easier for you when you start to age a little more

People are fickle. Watching your channel and the comments, the reality is most people are looking for ASMR kind of content as a distraction, living vicariously through you. When you talk about the reality, it pulls them out of that into a state of realizing how terrible everything is. Functionally, when you get to that point, there's highly polarized perspectives. Where we're probably 95% on the same perspective, that last 5% can upset people who aren't willing to accept disparate points of view. Especially in the current political climate. There are venues, but they can become a drag on your overall goals. Nevertheless, I appreciate all the content you've created, and I'm further along my own journey in that direction because of you, and that means a lot. (Even though I haven't been able to contribute on Patreon.)

I would have liked to have learned from you. Your original plan was great, but I can see how it's challenging to create, shape and direct such things on this platform. I think that's smart to just keep going. Those of us that want to learn can gleam plenty from You Tube and know it's so much appreciated. I am so curious and respect how you and your wife recovered financially from after you lost it all. Really respect what you two have done to recover and thrive. Thanks for the hope.

Your level of work and energy has always impressed me. I was always in awe of the projects that you worked on and then add the video production. Whew! None of us is getting any younger though so try to keep it all balanced for your own sake.

Shawn, I’m seeing over 11 thousand people who have watched your video today. The problem is, not all watching hit the 👍 ❤️ or a descending click. It’s important, not for ego or a pat on the back, to register your opinion so that this, and the other channels, can continue. It takes no effort at all to hit the thumbs up. Shawn, we appreciate you and grow in wisdom through your experiences! Thank you!

We on your u tube channels love what you do, also if I could turn back time I would move to Canada and ask to join in with you and your family in this life you are building. Thus is because you are doing what I have always dreamed of.
