I remember in 2016 when I grew my first crop of wheat on about 1/4 of an acre in Michigan. It was a great success. When my in-laws came to visit that Summer from Spain I had the profound pleasure of watching my husband and his father harvest the wheat with scythes. I then tied them up in bundles called stooks or shocks. It was probably the most beautiful thing I ever witnessed or was a part of. The labor was intensive and hours long but looking at that field with standing wheat stirred ancient feelings inside of me. My in-laws had not lost the old ways of living. They even helped me braid my garlic and hang to dry in the greenhouse. We Americans and Canadians have lost so much of our natural ways of living. Keep making these videos because they can change the world.

Another great video thanks for sharing your garden and seed preparation. I have 5 new chicks in our hen house they are fun to see them rooting through the ground area looking for bugs and eating seeds. We have been using chicken scratch for over 4 years now and we use about 400 pounds of feed over the winter season for 24 chickens, plus we get lots of eggs that we donate to (My Daily Bread),it helps feed those in need. I thought I would share this with you. It's part of giving back

As a qualifier I own a bird sanctuary both domestic/local and migratory. I'll give you a atta boy for your effort but millet both white and red are at the bottom of the birds want list. I'm a known entity on the world stage ie. the bird forum where I share and give advice on birding issues and if you use a commercial mix seed they always use millet as a filler. As a consequence a good many of these seeds wind up on the ground and eventually self seed. To which I've never seen a bird take a seed from either a white or red millet plant. In order if your wish is to attract birds the most popular seeds are Safflower, Black Oil Sunflower then Grey stripe Sunflower in that order. If you have the resources put out Peanuts in the shell and as of now they going if you can find them at $2.00 a Pound to $3.00 pounds.

There are these nice hand cranking mills that exist that turns that stuff into flour. I've never used one myself. I think they clamp down onto the side of a table like a vice then you crank it. They got to be sold online somewhere. Anyways, that's neat to see those grain plants. First time seeing them that close and on video. I don't know what you do with millet, amaranth and sorghum.

I’ll be planting about 1200 square feet of einkorn within the next few weeks as an experiment for harvest next summer. I want to try growing my own cereals here to cut down my reliance on external production. If it works, I’ll make it an annual part of my food supply. Thanks for sharing your family’s experiences in similar exploits.

I wouldn’t worry about removing too much about removing the debris from the seed, chooks are really experienced at finding the bits they want to eat and the remainder becomes compost. 🇦🇺

With everything that needs to be apparently done to sustainably survive, it sure appears that 1 single individual cannot do everything all by themselves. There are just not enough hours in a day to do all those things that would need to be done. Hence also why we all need to work together as a community. Tolerate one another and be kind to one another.
