Challenge - The Boss King : Chess against Martin but your pieces have to capture less material than the King. Rules: 1. You have to capture all of Martin's pieces excluding the pawns. 2. Your King has to capture 16/31 points of material(Excluding Pawns) 3. If your pieces( excluding king) captures more than 15 points of material , you lose. 4. Your king has to guard the piece that delivers checkmate. 5. The pawns don't matter in this case. You can capture the pawns as you wish. GOOD LUCK

You were worried about Martin making a capture that de-links your pieces, but I'd have played this challenge such that a de-linked position wasn't an instant loss, but would be treated like being in check -- you only lose if you can't then immediately make a move that re-links you. The same "it's like check" rule would similarly disallow you from making your own move that brings about a de-linked state.
@AbiGail-ok7fc Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The rule ought to be "the pieces should be connected at the end of your turn". Otherwise, you might even have to disallow moves like Ra1-h1 unless the chain covers the entire first rank.

here is an idea. chess is also game of life. if a piece has more then 3 neighbors (including opponents) then it "dies" if it has fewer then 2 then it also dies, if an empty square has exactly three pieces surrounding it then it spawns a pawn of the majority color. after each turn these rules are applied to the entire board. cells in rows 1,2,7,8 do not ave the rules applied otherwise everything would be dead after the first move. if the king dies to these rules then that player loses imediatly

Dang, that was tricksie - Chain-gang Chess seems a good name for it! - Challenge: Play Martin but every time you capture a piece with a Minor Piece or Major piece that piece downgrades to a pawn. To make it harder some extra rules that can be added if necessary: 1.) When Martin captures with a pawn he upgrades it to a minor piece (knight first) 2.) When you capture with a pawn - it downgrades itself off the board.

I tried it myself against Martin - took me 117 moves, but I did it. It's more annoying than anything, tbh - I made a lot of really dumb moves to try to keep everything connected. I did follow the hard-mode version of the challenge, though - my pieces had to stay connected at all times, including on Martin's moves. This is how I usually play chess My defense is enough to stall out any chess engine for 20-40+ moves But I’ll never win, just lose slowly, as my offense is... it exists, but every time I try, I end up with holes and somehow lose So I suppose it’s nonexistent
