when he had the smb2 mushroom and was jumping on the thromp with the 2 mecha koopas on top, he was making him rise, , which meant he actually could had used that to get him high enough so he could then ride him to the left and get at the goodies there

Seems like in that last level, all he would have had to do would have been to get the SMB2 mushroom, grab the Banzai Bill, go to the top of the stairs just to the left of the last Bowser, throw the Banzai Bill to the left and ride it, and crouch jump off to get to the upper left section. At least that's what I would have tried to do.

I think DGR could’ve taken the SMB2 mushroom first to hit Ludwig until he takes damage twice and then he could’ve grabbed the big mushroom which gives him two more hits in order to possibly defeat Ludwig and finish the level. He could’ve had an advantage of having 4 chances of taking damage and then he could’ve beaten the level without running out of time.

I always believe it's the star that takes you back to Yoshi's house that actually causes the changes not the last level of that area. Did you try to see if that's the case? The Top Secret Area above donut planes ghost house was actually the last thing I found out about years later after the game came out because there aren't any clues to tell the player that Ghost House has multiple exits. Most of them you can tell that a different exit exists because of how the map looks but that one was hard to spot.
