That modem take on a B Flieger while not historically accurate looks really nice in a dressy manor. Of course, being more dressy is exactly not what a Flieger is but as a watch, it just looks good. I have a type B traditional style from Escapement Time, which is good enough for my interst but if I didn't have it, I would probably prefer the Wise.

I’ve never been a fan of type B’s before but this take is a modern interpretation while retaining just enough of a vintage aesthetic to continue the romance. Love the red one. Great review Shane!

Now that you mention it, I can see that. Especially the dial. Although I think this winds up being halfway between where the Eagle II went and a regular flieger. I remeber a lot of people thought the Zelos was a little too odd with it's case.

At 7:50, the chess piece behind the watch makes it look like the watch has a bulbous crown sticking out of the left side of the watch. 😂 I love a good flieger, and this looks really good.

Well, I actually like the Eagle II better, but I like the more strange and unusual watches out there. This is somewhere between that and a regular flieger.

@RelativeTime Yeah, same but different. The Wise is a little closer to classical without getting all the way there, which I found appealing. I could see one in my collection and easily find occasion to wear it, but it's not in the cards right now.

Nice Review on the Flieger Sir👍..though WISE Customer Service is😡 lacking, I ordered the HITMAN Full Lume 66 over 3 weeks ago and not arrived🤨to date and email response is ((slow)), I may have entertained this Wise Flieger based on your review but again, I have yet to receive the Hitman and not into waiting till the next ICE AGE. "WISE may make good watches" but Sales and Delivery is slower then the TITANIC sinking..

BTW ,I ended up purchasing the Laco Aachen 42 Stainless Steel, which took less han 3 days delivered- fit, form and design with decent lume just works for me and all subjective. Thanks and keep up the great ontent.

In all fairness, Wise states on its website that due to high sales, the time between order and day of shipping takes 14-20 business days. I ordered the bronze flyboy on 16th october and it was shipped out early this week, way within the time given. Also, when reaching out, I received an answer the same day.

@@Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo Well Rolex is the most well-known brand to use it and they also use it on everything. From subs to explorers to datejusts. So you can't really fault-wise for doing the same.. Now on a regular brushed Flieger you could argue it's pointless, but here there are the polished chamfers as well as part of the bezel. So the 904 helps a little to bring out the sleekness of the case.

But ultimately that just brings everything back to the question of whether 904 is better / worth it, or a gimmick. Which you could bring up regardless of the design. I mean Grand Seiko uses 316L and no one complains about their polish. In this instance. It is a nice feature, and it's still desirable for some to have regardless.

I'm really keen on WISE timepieces generally, but I don't care for the "military-style" typeface on these. It just seems to be screaming "MILITARY", as if the fact it's a B flieger isn't enough. I would have preferred a more readable typeface. Besides that subjective criticism of the design, I've got no doubt these are really well built. 904L is also a draw for me, as I don't have that in my collection yet, and Rolex is too hyped for me. The other contender for my 904L watch is Ball. They actually don't have many pieces in stock with bracelets now, but I may just crack and get myself an AD7. I'll try to hang on for the full 904L monty w/ bracelet. Very interesting microbrand IMO!

It's a dateless 9000 series miyota. fairly common these days. Hibeat, ~42hr power, hacking , handwinding.

Did you happen to see the Zelos Eagle 2 review a bit back? Did you think that one looked too small? A lot of people seem to be asking for smaller watches and this is just the result of that. Maybe it doesn't work with all designs for everybody.

So I really don't mean this as a dig, because you're not the only watch reviewer who does this, but the phrasing of "the aviator watch design dates back to Germany in the 30s" is an odd way to say that this watch was designed for and by the Nazis. Just a curiosity that "heritage" is so often evoked in watch circles and then connected to Nazi production. Don't really see this done with cars or pens or clothing. "Adidas has heritage that dates back to Germany in the 30s"

Someone has commented on that before in another video. Perhaps it was you. But honestly, don't have much of an answer for you. In this particular instance, I wasn't trying to go into an in-depth history. I just wanted to mention something in case new collectors were here. So when I was filming, that was just what came to mind for a short and direct-to-the-point statement. But I guess that does bring up a bigger question about it as well.

What is the allure of “heritage?” How should we understand this concept and what are potential pitfalls or blind spots in how we conceive of things and their relationship to the past? Obviously it’s your channel and you don’t need to humor every dolt in the comments but you make thoughtful and interesting work so it’s something that I think might be cool for you to explore a bit (if you wanted and if it would get you views :D )

I hate Rolex, with the exception of the Cellini and Sky-Dweller. Notice the lack of mercedes hands. That’s a detail that’s just as important as the bezel-alignment purists. If has mercedes hands, even the Explorer II is off the table for me, let alone on Rolex 😂 It just seems so lazy and ugly compared to the somewhat similar design of cathedral style hands. Sorry, went down the rabbit hole.

I'm right with you on that. I'm not a big Rolex fan, and not big on Mercedes hands. The milgauss is the one Rolex I really like, but it doesn't have those.

@Fred-rg5vw it does. It's actually brand new and just got it. It's just for some reason this particular strap got the tan marbling right where that attaches to the watch. Which does look a little odd.
