Not sure how old the video is (not much by mentioning the 3k price tag), but there are more high quality manufacturers of SCAR mods, particularly Parker Mountain Machine (PMM) and Mototech Engineering. PMM offers great rail systems (1913, M-Lok, and Keymod), upgrades to lowers/controls, and even offers machining services. Mototech has been producing upgraded internal parts, such as a TiN coated gas piston, CrN coated cam pin, and a rubberized recoil plate that makes both versions of the rifle shoot even more softly. In addition to Handl, two other companies make metal lowers to replace the stock polymer one, Striker Enterprises and X-Products (though the owner of the latter turned off a lot of people for comments made after the Parkland shooting). While you can put any optic on them, if you get a 17s you will have to put a very high quality scope on it, as the harmonics of the action tends to destroy most pretty much every cheap optic (and even a few not-so-cheap ones). As for suppressors, again the 16 has no issues, but the 17 requires you to stay with a few select ones that are well-tested with the 17, since the dynamics of the gas system on that rifle, when coupled with many suppressors, will damage the bolt carrier group. Just be forewarned, if you get one, you will fall in love, and end up spending even more money to customize it the way you want it. Great video--as always! Iron side arms makes an aluminum lower for the 16s, I haven’t had the chance to get it all together but it’s a nice solid looking piece an it didn’t have any machine or tool marks on it.

I don't understand the SCAR's piston setup. The operating rod being connected directly to the BCG does nothing for performance. It just gives you the downsides of long-stroke pistons having a funky recoil impulse, while still requiring the extra maintenance of normal short-stroke. Just commit to one or the other. There's no need to make things more complicated than they need to be.

Ron Smith an example is beretta, sig and glock. For the longest time we wouldnt upgrade a pistol that jams whenever theres even heavy dust in the air, then when we do we chose sig over Glock even though glock is the clear winner just because of money. Shortly after the contract is made, we find out there are several problems that have to be addessed, when in reality we should have just gone with the right choice all along and contracted glock just like we should have kept the SCAR program and should just switch to the SCAR as the primary for the entire military. But its not about our troops, its about money. Welcome to the real world

SOCOM didn't discontinue them because of the reliability, they discontinued the use of them because they couldn't justify the cost and the rifle didn't do anything special besides shoot better than the M4A1 platform with a folding stock. That Gun was the only gun that fired 260,000 rounds in the SOCOM trails without a failure. Sooooo, Talk what you know Mr. So Broke and can't afford any SCAR rifle.....
