I was out at battlefield vegas a few years ago and shot their 17 that hit 100k rounds. The only thing they had to replace was a trigger spring once. That durability sold me on FN. i went and bought a 16 and 17 since have not had one malfunction or parts breakage with either. FN for the win with me.

Hello and good evening Chris. I appreciate you reviewing these two weapons. My nephew by marriage who is a US Marine of 14 years has a Scar 16 as his personal self defense weapon and swears by it. I was impressed by the mass of metal that makes up the BCG. That’s a big chunk of metal cycling back and forth and makes me think that between the smaller lighter BCG and better trigger in the Bren 2 that follow up shots might be a split second quicker and more accurate with that rifle. Given a choice between the two I’d probably opt for the Bren. Thanks very much Chris for your thorough and well presented reviews. All the best you and your loved ones.

I've been waiting for Chris to do this video forever!! Although, I wish he had the Bren 2S (military version). How is it, that the Bren 2Ms is around 1.5 lbs lighter than the SCAR 16 and the recoil looks visibly softer? Maybe it's due to being more linear (straight into the shoulder)? The SCAR just seems to have more muzzle flip that's all. The Bren 805 was super smooth shooting too. Chris, you gotta do a video comparing the Bren 2, Robinson Arms XCR-L, B&T APC-223, Remington ACR, and SCAR 16!! OR....take out the Bren 2 + ACR and do a comparison between the .308 versions of the other 3 platforms. CZ needs to release the Bren BR (.308) in the U.S. already..

The Bren 2 has a lower mass BCG compared to that of the SCAR. So less weight getting tossed around during firing.
@alexferrara9287
@alexferrara9287 2 жыл бұрын
@@misha5670 Of course that plays a role in things but, the SCAR 16 also weighs more overall. You would think it'd balance out a little bit. I was just surprised that I could notice a difference. The Bren 805 had a reciprocating charging handle + a slightly larger bcg than the Bren 2 and it still shot just as smooth. Overall, I feel like CZ made a better rifle than FN. I even preferred the 805 over the SCAR 16 but, it needed a bolt release and .5 lbs trimmed off. If that was the case, I feel like no one would've complained. Except for the reciprocating charging at least lol. Personally, my fav Bren is the Bren 2S. If that had the 805 trigger and Bren 2 carbine stock, it'd be the perfect rifle. Although, it was less modular.

Awesome video. I've been waiting for somebody to compare these two rifles and after watching this video, I feel you'd be hard pressed to find somebody who'd have done a better job. I have both rifles and for what it's worth, this is my take. My Bren is a pistol to rifle conversion with a Dead Air flash hider pinned and welded. I put my first shots through the Bren, the SCAR and the Sig Virtus two weeks ago. Out of the three, I was most impressed by the Bren. It's a well thought out, light, handy, accurate rifle with fantastic ergonomics. The Sig is a good shooter, but the long, heavy 16" DMR handguard makes it a bit cumbersome. The SCAR is a light, handy rifle, but it could use a bit of modernization and that trigger makes most sandpaper feel smooth. It's gonna need an upgrade. A co-worker who shot all three, also favored the Bren.

To those who say the Bren 2 doesn’t do anything better than a $1,000 AR. For a lefty shooting suppressed, the short stroke piston makes a big difference vs DI. Also a folding acr stock is way better than any OEM AR stock.

I own a 11" and a 14.7" BREN 2. The gas piston on both our 3 position - Off - Normal and Adverse. There is no smaller port for suppressor use. HB Industries will modify the gas valve and add a suppressor setting. I agree that the stock handguards are too short and I have added HB Industries Mlok rail handguards to both rifles. I really like these rifles, which is why I have two. My Tommy Built G36K has a polymer forend with an aluminum heat shield. I wish someone would off this for the BREN 2 as the bare aluminum hand guards get hot, so you either wear gloves or add a gangster grip. Other than that, the rifles are perfect IMHO.

Well done Chris. I appreciate you being unbiased between the two. Normally, especially with the scar, most over look any and all short comings, because well, scar. For someone that doesn’t care if the military uses it, and just wants his junk to work, be reliable as hell, and just do what I ask of it, the Bren has everything the scar has, does it as well, for half(or more)the cost. And yes, I own a Bren2 11”, (own several CZ’s in fact) ran suppressed. 2 weeks after owning it, I drilled the “off” setting out at work, put the HBI hg on, with a trijy 1-4 and light/switch. Ran it that way, coming up to 5 digits, for years and recently installing the HBI gas regulator and piston. I’ve loved it. Zero issues. I’ve only shot the Scar 3 times (my fathers) For me, the Bren was the easy choice because of money in the beginning, but now, having the means, I would still take the Bren. My issue with the CZ is spare parts. Spare part availability, even support if ever needed, is a concern I do have. Great video.

Great review. I appreciate the No BS approach. I do love my 16 (not stock by any means.) but am stoked to get my Bren 2 14” in a month. I’d heard horror stories about the Bren being an inaccurate platform but was relieved to hear there was no accuracy deviation between the scar and the Bren. I have found my scar 16 to be exceptionally accurate (3/4”-1.5” depending on ammo). Some of the stories Concerning the Bren I chalk up to extremely cheap ammo, lack of experience and other factors. I truly have a hard time believing the Bren is a 2”-3” gun.

I don't understand your comment, my country's army uses the SCAR L STD Mk II, or an A2 as you would call it. FN has at least 2 upgrades since its production begun. Maybe one more with the non reciprocating handle, which many people consider much more unreliable and more prone to mallfunction (except for the army Special Operations Group wich uses both the HK 416A5 and A7 - that would be tier 1, other army SOF like the commandos and paratroopers/pathfinders use the FN SCAR L MkII - and those would be tier II)

The Bren also comes in 7.62x39 in similar barrel lengths. It can be swapped between the 2 calibers very easily. A for the scar, the new non reciprocating charging handle sends to have questionable reliability. I know it of the 3 my friends own, they have all become reciprocating handles over time. To make it worse, FN is avoiding their attempts at warranty claims for it.

Excellent video as usual, very interesting and informative. I consider both rifles and any other general purpose rifle for that matter to be inferior to the Tavor X95 though. The conventional layout rifle system doesn't hold a candle to the bullpup's, especially with nowadays ever more prolific CQB style deployment and tactics. It makes sence to reimagine and redefine entirely. Both rifles represent the past whereas the X95 is very well-designed form an ergos point of view and holds better concealment characteristics as well. The human body wants to be small and compact without the arms being 'out there' during stress situations. There's no way one can walk around with either a SCAR or Bren 2. The Tavor on the other hand lends itself to being a very good CC rifle. It also has more aftermarket support and is more cost effective. Especially the SCAR is just too cost-prohibitive. X95 replacement barrel and BCG kit is 500-ish, SCAR's is triple that. Just saying. And with the X95's overall length+18,5" barrel and still smaller package than the SCAR's overall length+18" barrel tops, it's really a no-brainer.

@incognito1409
@incognito1409 Жыл бұрын
@@gobimurugesan2411 The AK has its place, not my favourite nor first choice platform though. Some people might say that 7.62x39 is great for mout etc. But carrying such heavy loads of ammo gets old real fast. I'd rather have vehicle mounted heavy weapons to deal with any cover, soft tops etc. I'm also very logistics finnicky when it comes to small arms. Good luck changing the barrel on an AK (or any long arm of similar construction) at the end user level. Big no-no as far as I'm concerned. Sure, I respect the AK and 7.62x39 round for what they are, but have zero use for them myself nor do I consider them to be practical. Other systems (X95 and M193) have proven their superiority. IMHO that combination is the pinnacle of modern general service rifle system engineering.

Not at all. The Bren 2 still has a better stock, stock trigger, more modern hand guard (with options), better quality parts overall, and has more military use/success than the SCAR 16 specifically.

@@SmallArmsSolutions well thank you for that answer good sir! I am leaning to agreeing with you, if nothing else based on price the bren 2 is the clear winner. The rifles are sooo evenly matched then you say this one is half the price, yeah bren 2 wins. I have been drooling over a BREN 2 at the local gun shop for a couple weeks now, I just dont like that pencil barrel, and the 16in carbine, is like you said not really that great.

Both are cool but I honestly can't see spending $2000+ for something that doesn't do anything better than an AR 15 at half the cost.

They have no real advantage over an AR. I bought the bren 2 and its fun but nothing special. You can spend much less money on a more popular platform and get better quality, and lots of compatible parts and accessories.
