Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G For more donation options, see: Lifeprint.com/donate Thanks! - Dr. Bill

I like in the middle of the video you change the English word but want the sign that was taught with the same meaning - good brain work!

Hey Dr. Vicars, I know you really liked the first Avatar movie. Have you seen the new one yet?
@sign-language

Hello Shelby! I did indeed see Avatar 2! Plus, the caption device worked! (It didn't work on three other movies in the past year.) Personally I liked the first one better -- but I thought the second one was really good too! How about you?
@shelbybuckton6047
@shelbybuckton6047 Жыл бұрын
@@sign-language Honestly I wasn't really a fan of the second one. It felt too similar to the first one and I think there were too many plot holes. I also didn't really care for the weird talking whales 😂. Just my opinion. It was a really pretty movie though.

I hope the next Avatar has more of a "hero's journey" type of storyline (like the first one). Guess we will see. I'll tell you, the movie I've liked the most this past couple of years was "Spider-Man: No Way Home." THAT was some good storytelling!

sir, at 34:17 that, is the same sign as impossible? thanks
@sign-language
@sign-language Жыл бұрын
The handshapes, palm orientation, and location are the same but generally the sign "impossible" uses a double movement as well as a matching negative affect (as in a slight negative head shake and a facial expression that indicates you don't believe something can be done). The 2-handed version of the sign "that" uses a single movement. Also often (but not always) there tends to be a bit more movement in the wrist. This extra movement is very common in the 1-handed version of "that one!"

Deaf friend, when talking about the drink "sex on the beach"...signs beach with a K hand, palm up, motioning (or hopping) the K three times away from the body
@sign-language
@sign-language Жыл бұрын
Very interesting! Makes me wonder if that is a regional sign for Beach -- or if it is an in-group (or even widespread) sign for that particular drink. What city do you two live in?
@brianmartel7547
@brianmartel7547 Жыл бұрын
@@sign-language Minor update - "V" hand not "K" my mistake, but otherwise same orientation and motion. We live in NH, and my deaf friend says the sign is "old fashion", but one that she normally uses. BTW...she is 50 and was mainstreamed. Might add some insight.

Olive I think
@sign-language
@sign-language Жыл бұрын
Right! Cäsar is grossed out by olives. Then she asked me how a person would sign the concept of “extend an olive branch.” I then explained that there isn’t a direct equivalent in ASL but you could indicate willingness to discuss and resolve issues.
