Hello , as a completely noob for who this tutorial was, I must say that You are a great teacher, especially in this case. I didn't follow anybody, cause I have no Instagram, but based on this tutorial I was able to make similar thing - some kind of Facebook event inviter for educational purposes, the difference is - when You are in the highlighted "all friends" option You have to make about repeat 24 times 48 key (tab) before You get to first friend selection option (I thing because of too many groups and events I had to avoid) and then a little bit of delay and bigger repeat. You have to make "repeat" key code 36 key code 48 as many times as many fiends You would like to invite. Ps. I knew that will be necessary to make longer delay, even as powerful device as MacBook still don't know that he has to go back when he will make a mistake and he goes still making some crazy clicks;)

I loved the tutorial! Loved the relaxed approach to it too, it was like we were all in it together! I really want to build a good solid knowledge of AppleScript and these little tutorials are a great place to start. As a side note, I just do not understand people that leave negative comments. "Your style was rubbish, you're a noob, use a better language" Why don't y' all fuck of somewhere that has all of these things and take your negativity with you too! I am a teacher that has to fill out behavior forms multiple times per day found in apple pages. I want to be able to voice command on my iPhone XS to then get my computer to open pages, select a new document template (the form) and then dictate a message at a specific location within the form (comments section on end of form), then possibly email it out. If possible, each time I fill out a new behavior form, I'd like the computer to then add a mark to another chart that records behaviors and when they occur. Is this feasible?

You don't need to know the keycodes, you can just enter 'keystroke' like. `keystroke "l"`

Just a quick tip you could add “/followers/“ to the end of the url so that you wouldn’t have to go through the stuggle of the “231m followers” search things

Dear Tim thanks a lot for this tutorial. I am going thru it again and again. :-) What I found as a good helping tool is to make shortcuts in keyboard. Like ks - Keystroke, kc - key code, ta - tell application. That function makes things faster. Any chance to see more tutorials for AppleScript? J

Hi Tim can you help with following? It isn't about apple script, but similar. I wanna change on my Mac default location for MAC screenshots to Photo library. Just to see it in Photos. I don't want to create any other folder on my Mac. In Photos is a folder Screenshots but I see there my Iphone screenshots only. As I want to have all screenshots synced in one place in Photos. I’m a noob at AppleScript and have a serious question, is Apple ditching scripting on it’s Macs? Support for automation seems to have dwindled over the years and they explicitly stated they won’t include scripting languages in future MacOS versions. The reason why I ask because I’m afraid of investing the next few months building an automated workflow around AppleScript only for them to drop it altogether. They referenced Python and Perl but do you have any idea whether AppleScript is being decommissioned or that’s unlikely? Thanks!

Im not aware of apple script being able to read when a page load occurs but may be worth researching. Only thing I can think of is a manually approach to identifying average load times and manually applying a delay that is close to it.

I was using a power Mac G4 and was testing it out to try and auto download a document upon command and some of the key codes weren’t working in the same way as displayed on you video since it was recorded on a later OS

If your key codes are not typing properly you may want to add more delay time between each action until it hits them properly. It might be tedious, but that could be the issue. I would recommend adding long delay times to see if it runs properly and then narrow down your issue from there. I'm here to help if you continue to come across issues.

CoolTimes Somewhere in your code the syntax is not correct. In other words, snoop through your code for errors. There might be a typo.

Very few apps are actually “recordable”. If you record what you are doing in the “Finder”, you should see results. Truth is, even if it does record what you do, the code that is created from the recording isn’t that great. Once you learn to write AppleScript you can create much better code than the recording does.

There could potentially be a typo somewhere in your script. If keystrokes don't work you could try key codes as indicated in the video. Let me know how it goes!

Go to your System Preferences --> Security and Privacy --> Click on the privacy tab and click on the tiny lock icon at the bottom on the window --> enter in your admin password & username. At this point you should see a script editor icon with a checkbox next to it. Click the box and you should be good. (also click the lock icon again to deactivate further changes just to be safe!)

About a month ago, following the instructions I found in Apple Community, I was successful in using Calendar and Script Editor to create an audio appointment reminder. It worked fine; it was just what I wanted. Unfortunately, I was unable to do it today. Today, when I clicked on Script Editor, the window I got said Script Editor--iCloud at the top. I don't know how iCloud got into the act. Could this be why I can't create an audio calendar reminder now?

From what I understand it sounds like the update has affected your Apple Script to malfunction. You might have to navigate in a different way to create the audio reminder you speak of.

I've watched a whole lot of tech tutorials over the last 30 years. This one was one of the best. A lot of quality information was packed in a short amount of time. And the mischievous humor behind the subject material is epic. I think you are completely nuts. Either that or the business behind the url you linked to gets you paid for the clicks. Or both.
