My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I think it's a great debut album and definitely their most traditional Heavy Metal sounding release. They progress a lot throughout their career, getting a lot more intricate and varied. I suggest giving Meliora a try. It's their third album and my favorite. His vocals on it have a lot more depth.

Love this album! Ritual is such a killer track. I saw them open for Opeth and Mastodon at the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City way back in 2012. They were so good that I instantly went to merch table and bought the album and listened to it all the way back home haha.

I love ghost. This band grew on me overtime. My dad and brother love them and I didn’t see why but my dad always plays them like legit never takes them off. In the car, working on the yard, literally everywhere I could not escape not listening to them and ofc they grew on me. They have so many catchy songs that get stuck in your head for days. I saw them my first time in 2022 in Dallas this is when I knew nothing about them it was a great show still and then September 2023 I saw them in Houston and they were phenomenal. They’re all funny on stage and their music just kicks ass live.

Opus Eponymous is an amazing debut album! It has that 70's Heavy Metal feel. This thing was huge in the underground Metal scene when they came our and highly respected. They played a lot of Doom Metal shows in this era and even had their first show at Hammer of Doom IV festival.😊

An amazing review! To be honest, it took me almost a decade to get into Ghost. I tried the debut when it came out, but something didn't click. Then, Infidelamsterdam said that Ghost (when it was still Ghost BC) was one of his favorite bands at that time. I thought that was an interesting choice, but noted. Only years later, I tried Opus Eponymous and Infestissumam and "I got it", and saw that I like quite a bit :) But yeah, I think that the fist two albums are still the best of Ghost. They're the most "velvety sinister" shock rock they had. But there are some good songs later.

When Ghost was actually good and had somewhat of a mystique to them, which is something I feel is lacking in current bands. Just a perfect blend of doom, late 60’s occult rock, and catchy but tastefully done choruses. Too bad they turned more overproduced Satanic Abba instead of doomy and evil Blue Öyster Cult

Their best album and also my favorite doomy dark heavy rocking riffs vocals lyrics everything to me was on point on this album the bass lines are insane i saw them opening for opeth and mastodon at the diamond ballroom it was more like a cult bad at the time juat good times 🤘🍻 cheers

Xcellent commentary on the debut album by Ghost 👍 I remember hearing about this band Ghost and I was curious back in 2010... so I bought a copy of 'Opus eponymous'... I was surprised to hear that it was a mix of stoner rock and Halloween music 😁 (I was expecting something along the lines of either King Diamond or Enslaved, silly me!) I know James Hetfield of Metallica said he was a huge fan back then as well... The album itself was not unique musically - Queens of the Stone Age made the same kind of stoner rock album 'Rated R' in 2000; Ghost merely took the Cradle of Filth (who also wrote about Elizabeth Bathory) macabre imagery and blended it with that style of rock w/ the fuzz guitar + subtle vocals and made it something sinister... It wasn't too different from what other stoner rock bands had done ... like Kyuss, Fu Manchu, or Monster Magnet... Ghost just used the theatrical factor the way Alice Cooper, King Diamond, Slipknot, and Kiss had done before them. The album itself was catchy and worthy in my opinion. What's incredible was that Ghost got big so fast without any radio or MTV airplay... When Ghost announced their 1st US tour headlining already, they were playing small clubs and bars (They sold out the now-defunct Station 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota which Cannibal Corpse regularly played in... as well as a tiny bar in Springfield, Virginia called Jaxx, also now defunct) When the 2nd Ghost album 'Infestissumam' was released in 2013, it charted at #28 in the US without any major airplay and the band was headlining major clubs already on their 2013 US tour... I saw them for the first time @ Mill City Nights in Minneapolis and there were a lot of women in the packed venue (I still have that tour shirt!) and they put on a good show. Of course, when 'Square hammer' became a hit single in 2016, the pop fans came flooding in for Ghost... I saw them 1 more time in 2017 in a massive venue - Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia... where they opened for Iron Maiden.

The appeal was due to the uniqueness. At the time, there really wasn't anything like this album...combining this satanic aesthetic with these super poppy hooks. Most won't admit it now, but even a lot of the grim and trve, kvlt members of the underground, were buzzing about it when it came out. For me, it's probably the only release they've done that's actually worth a damn, but it should have been a one-and-done. Would have much rather had a couple more Repugnant albums out of Forge instead.

Yup, finally someone said it! The True Metal elitists loved Ghost so much. For proof one just has to go read the comments from a decade plus ago on their 2011 shows.

I love it it’s my favorite album by Ghost. I’ve seen them around 20 times and met ol tobias several times. Ya know Phil Anselmo pretty much gave away his identity before it was well known. He’s really talented coming up with the whole lore/ story of Ghost. I like all of ghosts release’s except their last full length. They really are a great theatrical band live. Sad you’ll never get to experience them in a intimate setting but kudos for making satanic metal mainstream. Love your videos lady! Keep up the great work!
