Definitely deserved. Ghost started in 2010 and in the past 9 years went from playing small gigs to large arenas. They put out 4 great and diverse albums. Received 3 Grammy nominations and won for Cirice. Years ago I watched the music video for Secular Haze and immediately fell in love with the old school sound and melodic vocals. Ghost is my favorite modern band. With so many legends getting old, dying or going on farewell tours, we need newer bands to carry the torch. More people should respect the past and embrace the future.

Topped off with the most unenthusiastic, dispassionate, whiny ass garbage singing in recent history.. james labrie is tied for awful sound but at least he tries.. ghost (turdbias fuxaman) is the most overrated, overhyped, industry planted sack of pussy rock/pop/Satanist bullshit ever heard by human ears... Being successful doesnt equate to quality.. people as a whole or in large groups are bafflingly stupid and easily influenced.. thats why the us isnt a democracy.. the founders understood that the majority opinion doesnt make it the right one or even worth listening to because art can be objectively analyzed and its quality determines based on facts, music theory, and common sense.. and turdbias is an objectively massive pile of shit in every possible way... All the way down to having disposable touring musicians so you dont have to share credit.. even though most of them are probably far more talented and could help him expand and improve... Nope . He thinks hes the fucking devil worshiping version of trent reznor... And he is .. if you ordered trent from temu on a 75% discount😂 cant wait for the waves of hate from the mentally deficient fans of this garbage and how pseudo intellectual it will sound trying to explajn away this heao of shit he calls a "band". @@LoudnessJP there's no evidence of him unpaying his band because all of the money went through his own company, so nobody else has seen the financial records. I imagined the plan early on was to shed a little more of the mask each album, and slowly get rid of it, but for whatever reason the lawsuit and forced unmasking of Mr. Forge blew that plan up. I’m sure he loves being able to do interviews now as himself, but probably feels like his own image would take away from the music at this point

Some people love shitting on ghost for bringing something different with each records & eras saying it destroys the original image/sound blah blah blah but in this interview it's obvious that each changes were crucial to the band's growth & creative journey. Had tobias keeps the opus sound for at least 1 or 2 later albums, I don't think they would ever getting big like they are now.

This is so great. I admire him as a speaker so much, in addition to all his other roles in Ghost. I especially envy how he's not afraid to let there be lapses of silence while he think of his answers. It may be natural, it may be learned, but whatever it is, it definitely makes you hang on his every word and makes his response style so cool yet measured. Thanks for this, Loudwire!

"...Do you think the Cardinal has any idea of his potential impending doom...?" Graham asks some rather prescient questions in this interview, doesn't he? Almost five years later, we get 'Rite Here Rite Now', which addresses that thoroughly. Great rock journalism.

Guys a savage against stupidity and reporters that try and smear metal as well. Watched him do an interview, and he had this, "I'm not putting up with this shit" face and just thrashed the reporter with grace and intellectual tact and respectfulness. Didn't insult, didn't raise his voice, just spoke the truth and in the process asserted dominance with a "We won't be treated this way" tone. It's on a loud wire "musicians outclassing interviewers" video.

I like that he specifies the adaptability that is required to be successful isn't just in music. He mentions restaurants and tile businesses in passing. It's a fresh breath of air when an artist can say that the need and ability for adaptability isn't exclusive to his field. When models act like walking a catwalk is so difficult or actors pretend life is hard I have to roll my eyes. Yeah, I can't do it like them because I don't look like them nor have I had their experiences. But what they're doing isn't difficult compared to other menial jobs. Some of them know it too. Yes, we all have our relative difficulties, but it's nice when someone who's attained success still understands that others go through some hurdles and knows to be excellent in anything that the type of mindset that is required is one that can adapt and improve on ones situations.

Gotta say, the whole lawsuit thing did good in making interviews like this possible. Without Forge's identity being widely revealed with the lawsuit, it probably would have been those gimmicky in-character interviews til the end of time. Much more interesting when it's not someone playing a character. There's only so far a shtick can work.

I agree. And also something peculiar has happened, or also to me and a couple of friends: When I see Ghost, I can totally separate the Papa / Cardinal characters from Tobias, he has done such a brilliant job crafting their personality that for as much I try to picture Tobias on stage instead of Papa / Cardi, it is impossible. To me, they are a totally different person.

@@TheDarkEthereal Totally agree. I went to my first Ritual in Salt Lake City this year, and trying to see Tobias on stage just doesnt work. Its fully Cardi on stage, and even though you can tell its a mask, the performance is so incredible and so encompassing you really feel like Cardi is his own person separate from Tobias.

Yes it is kind of strange, like KISS did for a while, to be secret with your looks off stage. I mean they play a role. It is like an actor never would role-off, always be the guy in the play even off stage.
