It’s pretty similar to Buddhism also. Which makes sense I guess because they all came from ancient India.

Thats because both Jainism & Buddhism are off shoots of Hinduism. Which does not make Hinduism the original/ better - but simply the source that was taken and then customized for a different purpose.

They believe in souls which is a huge difference with buddhism's anātman. Also buddhists could eat meat if they are not in a temple and if they didn't kill the animal themselves. Despite this a lot of buddhists are vegetarians. While Jains are "vegans" and also try not to kill the plants they feed on. They are even more pacifist than buddhists

Jainism came before Buddhism and thus indeed shares a lot of values and beliefs, unlike Buddhism though, Jains had 24 teachers or Tirthankars who reincarnated into human form to attain true knowledge and were on the brink of enlightenment all at different time periods, they were just like Buddha and their attainments in knowledge and wisdom were strong enough to attract a large following, this cycle of new souls reaching the state of enlightenment to become Tirthankars will happen again according to Jains, through their self sacrifice and arduous journey to attain the truth, they guided others to follow the path of non-violence and attaining wisdom and knowledge and the new teachers will do the same again. Jains believe in the transcendence of soul through enlightenment by gaining wisdom and walking the path of samsara(the world) through sacrifice of worldly afflictions and any sort of attachments by walking a monastic path for the liberation of soul and becoming part of the Universal soul, known as Parmatma to break away from the cycle of birth and death and its many reincarnations. There are many branches of Jainism but the 3 main branches are the Digambars, Shwetambars and Terapanths. Common people might not follow all principles but they try to practice a little apart from the Monks and Teachers. Another difference would be that Lord Buddha later allowed women to join his sect as he believed that women to could attain self enlightenment as he witnessed the sacrifice of some women to walk the same path as him and he believed that they didn't need to reincarnate as men to let go of worldly afflictions, but in Jainism it is believed you need to reincarnate as a man to attain self enlightenment because women are embodiments of love, care, affection and their attachment to emotion is stronger than that of men, this is also not followed widely in Jainism either as in Shwetambar sect of Jainism they believe women can achieve Moksha (freedom from cycle of birth and rebirth and reincarnations). I have only compared the true version of Buddhism and Jainism in this context as am not dissing on anyone but I don't believe in other types of Buddhism other than the one that truly originated through Gautam Buddha, others follow a very botched up version of true beliefs of Buddhism. Originally Buddhists followed mostly the same things in their philosophy as Jains but in other variations, they have completely mixed up stuff that is not based on the wisdom of Buddha but various other people who claimed to be the so called other Buddhas. For eg in many versions of Buddhism elsewhere it is ok to eat Meat or use Self defense or practice wishful thinking by doing good karma and chanting, whereas in original Buddhism, Gautam Buddha would never go near meat as it came from harming another being nor would he practice self defense in any form, he would just stand still in enduring to not participate in any form of violence, as his participation in self defense would mean, he is still attached to the worldly desires which he clearly wasn't attached, same for wishful thinking.

One rectification in your video needed .. jainism is not just 2500+ years old it's but rather it's eternal .. for instance Rishabhadeva (adinath) was the first tirthankar in jainism and so Mahavira was not the founder of jainism but just the 24th ford-maker of this cycle.
@georgfriedrichhandel4390
@georgfriedrichhandel4390 5 ай бұрын
If as you say that Rishabhadeva was the first tirthankar then Jainism cannot be eternal. Eternity presupposes no beginning or end. But when you claim that he was the first then you are stating an origin. That defies the concept of eternity.

@@georgfriedrichhandel4390 i think you missed my sentence , i mentioned cycle. He is the first tirthankar of this cycle. Once this cycle completes, new cycle begins which then again will have 24 tirthankars and this has been going on since eternity and will go on with no ending

@@manishjain4691 But again, and please forgive me if I'm being redundant, for there to have been a first cycle, it signifies a beginning. Otherwise, if Jainism is eternal, who came before the first in that line?

@@manishjain4691 With all due respect, that completely contradicts what you originally said. You claim that Rishabhadeva (adinath) was the first tirthankar in jainism so again. if he was the first then Jainism has an origin which means it cannot be eternal. I'm not talking about time. Breathing is something everyone does and the mindset is something everyone has. What makes the difference between a Buddhist and a Christian is connection God. Prayer is not just a coping mechanism it is something which is supposed to draw us closer to God and create divine essence and nature within us as we pray. This is a Christian concept.
