Hi Carl and alex
@cascott19733 жыл бұрын
It used to be about size, or number of fish for me. Loads of gear on every trip. Then after I had an operation I was limited for a few weeks. I couldn't carry much gear, or risk hooking a big fish as it would be unsafe for me and the fish. Pocket tackle and fishing for tiddlers was my only option. It reminded me what I loved about fishing as a kid. Being out there, relaxing, taking in the nature it all came back, catching was secondary to enjoyment.
@eleveneleven5726 ай бұрын
Too many anglers approach to fishing like a military exercise with masses of gear. Nah.....my happiest times are traveling light and not caring about the size of the fish. And they can keep the stocked fisheries !

Micro fishing with a small float is a great way to bring back memories. To this day I love the feeling when the float goes under, even though you know it won't be a monster. My mate who I go fishing with doesn't understand why I do it and says "they're not even proper fish" but there's a nice innocence to micro fishing.
@leem253 жыл бұрын
You never know though ;) i was catching roach all day yesterday until the last bite went unexpectedly solid and caught a lovely 7lb mirror on a size 18 hook 😁

@liamwilkinson7883 жыл бұрын
this is what makes the channel different to most. the understanding of people who like to catch smaller species and as well as getting out trying to catch the bigger fish even if they're not too great at it without being a laughing stock
@magicshaun3 жыл бұрын
I’m really glad you did this, people laugh at me when im at a big lake and do this. Often after a few hours if there’s no action ill have a play with the little fish in the margins on a pole or light rod. I also find after about an hour of catching small fish they start getting bigger and bigger and most times i end up catching a young carp about 5-12lbs. I have a theory that the small fish are eating away happily then the larger fish see this and join in then the carp see this and then they muscle in.

This film is the absolute essence of angling. It's what made us all lifelong anglers from being little kids. Small perfect fish in a wonderful natural environment. I hadn't been fishing for 6 years and got back in to it in 2020. It was not my best season for big beasties. But those Autumn days on the River Colne catching small Chub and Barbel surrounded by the wildlife and the stunning colours of the Rudd on a local lake in February put a smile on my face and reminded me, as you say, of what drew me in to the sport as a child

100% agree with you about sometimes its such a joy to go back to basics and fish like this, its the joy of not knowing what fish is next and you get to be on the move, unlike stuck in a pre booked peg on a commercial.

I fished until I was 14 (I'm 52 now) and really didn't enjoy it... Back at the start of summer, I took my girls (aged 9 and 6) camping to a friend's place where they've got a little 2 acre lake. My girls asked what was going on beside the lake and asked if they could go fishing... Two months later (and after watching an awful lot of your videos), we're all out on our local lake almost every week. The girls have been fishing with 5ft rods and little spinning reels and have caught multiple fish each time (including a few very nice little mirror carp). To hear them laughing and see them smiling all day is the absolute essence of what I was hoping to achieve. My own fishing has come on in leaps and bounds with my personal best now being an 18.5lb common on the same lake. I've gone from having a cheap little rod with a float attached to fishing the bottom with the rigs you've shown me how to make. The joy now is to be able to walk away from my own gear and spend time watching my girls land fish after fish after fish! So thanks to you both (and Josh) for creating a channel that's enabled this grumpy old sod to make even more of the time with my girls... We've got plenty of photos and more importantly, plenty of new memories... Long may it continue!

Fantastic little video this. As the years go by it's easy to get caught up in the bigger is always better side of fishing. This video proves that is not the case in fact relentless pursuit of bigger carp can actually ruin you as an angler! If you've forgotten the joy that can be gained from catching small fish from small waters then it's definitely time to reconnect. I've definitely been guilty of becoming blasé when it comes to fish size in the past but I've begun making changes and will be doing a lot more of this type of angling in the future. Thanks for reminding me and the rest of the fishing world why maintaining this connection to our angling roots is so important.
@fishingtutorials2 жыл бұрын
Ahhh cheers Matthew... really glad to hear it. It happens, we can get caught up feeling only big fish matter for a good session, but it's amazing to remember the simple joy of just catching fish :) they're all amazing. Enjoy!

@@fishingtutorials Absolutely! I've been doing some waggler fishing this winter for roach (I haven't taken the time to do that for many years!) I absolutely loved it. The tingle of excitement I got when that float dipped and slid under was just great and then when I made a solid contact with a fish it all came flooding back: All those years I spent on park lakes and small rivers catching fish that most anglers would regards as meaningless in todays world. Those fish mattered, they still matter. Catching small fish enables grown men to travel back in time and become a boys again (instantly) and that makes it very special indeed.
@fishingtutorials2 жыл бұрын
Yes haha, excatly :) couldn't agree more. Beautifully said. Glad you got back out on the waggler fishing... there's nothing like that feeling and anticiptaion! Thanks for sharing that Matthew :) always great to hear.

Have been getting really into catfishing lately, even got a cast net for bait. I have a small creek running just behind my house (usually only about 7cm deep except after rain) and decided to see what was back there. Plenty of creek chubs and even a school of catfish fry! Started micro fishing with a little pocket combo with 6lb line and a size 2 panfish hook. I think I might enjoy the micro fishing for my bait even more than the actual catfishing, lol.

Exactly the fishing me and my 6 year old do. Have a stream like that near us we can fish. All I have is a rod license, landing net, unhooking mat, small box of tackle, and my son's Argos Matt Hayes Frogger telescopic set up. Go for an hour after school and easily catch 20 fish like chub, perch, roach, dace, bream and gudgeon. Not massive fish but the variety keeps it interesting.
