Started watching about 6 years ago in high school physics, about to finish out my bachelors in mechanical engineering. Just wanted to thank you for getting me so excited about physics in the beginning and getting me through the rough start I had.

why did you used Tau 1 on the derived equation not tau 2? I know that they are both equal but why Mr. P?

My father always called it a "plumber's helper"; not very helpful if it bends your wrench, though. 8~/

What is the relationship of torque and the distance of application? And the relationship of torque and the angle of application? I Need help please!!
@carultch3 жыл бұрын
Torque is proportional to the distance between the point of application and the axis of rotation. For the angle, the largest possible torque occurs when the force and the position vector to the point of application are perpendicular. For angles other than a perpendicular angle between the two vectors, the sine of the angle is what matters. Another way to look at it, is to draw the *line of action* of the force. Imagine a line that passes through the point of application and extends infinitely far in both directions. What is the minimum distance between this line of action and the axis of rotation? That is how r*sin(theta) comes in to play, since r*sin(theta) is the distance to the line of action.

00:26 04:28 Seriously: who was the IDIOT who designed the adjustable wrench, such that its lever is so NOT PARALLEL to the force applied on the screw/nut?
