i was watching grimdark compendium, they really make grimdark and kitbashing into an art form. on their video they were showing a search result on youtube showing how you can find a video for every kind of painting style and as they scrolled down one of brents videos was on the list. so technically brent was on a grimdark compendium video!

1. Is it possible the Warhammer store has Casey's missing Tau? 2. Could Brent use daylight bulbs in his spectrometer light box?
@garyjenson13262 ай бұрын
What you guys talked about daylight is really important. We tend to paint minis almost like they are standing on the moon. I get that contrast is important, but so is light and shadow that's relatable. Good topic.

Puttering Bravely! I agree, puttering is a very important part of the hobby 😊

We'd say Pottering around over here but its the same thing. Enjoy things at your own pace dudes

Dude puttering around is one of the most zen things a man can do - people pick on the nerds, but the entire motorcycle industry is basically commercialized puttering about.

There is even that famous book about puttering around motorcycles...

For me, puttering is essential. It's what you do when you don't have enough time to do a 'real' project, or when you don't have the muse to sling some paint. It gets all the little tasks done that set you up for when you do have time or the drive to tackle something. It keeps your momentum going when you are on a string of days at the bench. Even if you only have 5 or 10 minutes that day, get to the bench and putter a bit. Because if you take a day away, that day turns into two. Which turns into a week. Next thing you know you haven't hobbied in a month or more. Keeping that habit of getting to the bench is essential for me. And doing stuff like putting things away, changing out my rinse water, changing blades, cleaning brushes, cleaning my dry pallet are all things that help me when I do have time to work. It needs done eventually. Why chew up productive time with unproductive tasks. Do those when you aren't feeling productive.

I like to think of it as letting ideas percolate while still doing hobby adjacent tasks.

casey still only using one earbud... lol. have you guys ever thought about doing a segment on mordheim? tons of people still play it, great old models and tons of new kitbashed models for it now, plus very grimdark and full of blanchitsu.

Spectroscopy is freakin' cool and I can't wait to see what comes out of that. I've got an experiment idea for you. Does UV reflectance from a bare resin mini change as it cures? Practically, could you use a spectrometer to sense when a resin mini is fully cured?
@GoobertownHobbies2 ай бұрын
interesting! To my mind, that's more of an ATR-IR spectroscopy experiment (an instrument that's too expensive for home use). The sp2 hybridized carbon atoms (uncured resin) can indeed be distinguished from sp3 hybridized carbon atoms (cured resin).

That sentence does not sound too complicated. From my experience, that's quite normal for Russian or German literature, provided by that language's having robust punctuation rules that make understanding long complex sentences not so hard as in English where's punctuation (in my own experience) seems to be optional; that's how Hermann Hesse can have sentence half page long without making it completely incomprehensible. Well, looking at sentence you shared, I understand that Spanish also has a tradition for longer sentences.
@MrZauberelefant2 ай бұрын
As a german speaker, I found that one intelligible, but poorly written. And my understanding of how spanish works lets me hazard a guess it wouldn't change in spanish. Too many adjectives, too many interjections, make for poor listening.

Well Casey, I happen to have a Warcrow box set up for grabs, I'll be drawing for it once my Twitch channel reaches 400 followers, and if y'all think that's neat, wait until you see what I'll be giving away at 500!

Oooh, puttering, Gurney, pigments, procrastination and spectroscopy! I'm HOOOME! Brent, do you still have your pigments from back when you tried to make your own paint? I seem to recall that they had pigment numbers? Might be fun to mull some of those up really fine and do side by side tests. Also, in the neurodivergent community I've heard specific "avoidance puttering"/procrastination described as "procrasti-learning", "procrasti-cleaning", etc. 😅 I'd venture the opinion that puttering is like doing hobby adjacent detailing/maintenance while carefully sneaking up to and petting your hobby to see if it wants to play actively or just hang out today. Procrastinating can stem from many things, and as mentioned by both of you, avoidance is one of the more common ones, so it's good to find out when we're just puttering and when we're actually procrasti-puttering for sure! At the moment I am doing a deep hobby corner overhaul and I am definitely travelling back and forth through that Venn diagram - but mostly it's actually productive puttering. /Pru

oh yes, I have hoarded all of these things. pigments are 100% the intended target once I get this running :-) I wish you great enjoyment for your hobby corner reboot!

Check out Ash Barkers review.. Corvus Belli desperately needed an English speaking copy editor.. The rules are available for free, but the nice big book is like $50 and full of twisted grammar that wasn't properly translated... That's a miss.. Even if the game is solid
