Are either Casey or Brent going to make it to LVO this year? They are really stepping up the game with the painting classes and hobby activities. There's going to be a ton of really talented painters there teaching classes and judging the competition. I've only started with Warhammer (AOS) this year but I've gone to LVO several times for the painting classes because I was into mini painting for D&D. It does help that it's my local convention :)

10:20 Casey has a good point. I don't know why we drop hundreds of dollars on miniatures and then balk at twenty bucks for a brush that lasts over a year (for me at least). $20 for a year (or more) is a pretty damn good investment for a reliable brush. So if they can create a synthetic brush that equals our weasel brushes -- THAT would be worth it.

These days I pretty much only use FB for reading posts at the Tabletop Crafter's Guild. Besides all you lot that I follow on KZbin, that's my favourite place for sharing tabletop ideas back-and-forth.

Just an FYI on the Scale 75 caps, there was a production error and it caused the top of some to break. I had my entire collection with broken caps (they break when you screw them on a few times). Scale75 did not respond to my requests for new ones so I had to 3D print some.

I paint miniatures for rpgs (well more often with the vague idea they can be used in an rpg session someday rather than specific miniatures for specific encounters) but I come from a wargaming background. I think the big challenge of painting miniatures for RPGs is that while you reuse your wargaming miniatures anytime you play, aside from player characters most rpg miniatures will probably only see the table once or twice per campaign

That makes sense, you don't necessarily want to spend time on something nobody will see, kind of a bummer really.

I'm a Fediverse Stan, actually using my own private Mastodon Instance to do my thing there - and I do see a bit of mini content, but I needed to search it out, as there is algorithm that tries to find things of interest for you. That said: It is a mixed bag: If you use social media to stay updated on what your actual friend group is doing and a fair bit of serendipity by seeing what stuff your group is sharing, then Mastodon and co can be great. If you want to use it to get a firehose of random interesting stuff from strangers, then this is a bad place. You can get there, but then you'll also get reply guys and other nuisances. The other issue is that moderation is dependent on which server you're on, and you can get exposed to stuff from badly-moderated servers, ESPECIALLY if you're a minority. "black twitter" tried the Fediverse, got angry, and largely moved away to Bluesky as far as I know.

To weigh in on the Vallejo strike, my first paint set was a starter box on their paints. Then it was Vallejo all the way simply because "they weren't Games Workshop." That was maybe five or six years ago. I feel blessed to live in an area with three pretty good gaming stores and none of them even stock Vallejo anymore. It's Citadel, Army Painter and a small selection of Turbo Dork. I've since switched to Army Painter and, honestly, if they started stocking Vallejo I probably wouldn't go back.

On the resin safety, don't let what you saw at FormLabs make you overconfident with other resins. I've been running a 3D print lab for several years with 2 FormLabs printers and from what people have said about their consumer 3D printers, the resins are quite different. FormLabs is focused on a prosumer market that is willing to pay extra for resins with specific properties such as high strength, biocompatibility, high temperature resistance, etc...

TCG wise... Solforge is a lot of fun, but i do recommend the online version (which is free to start) and you can add physical cards to your online account.... The other game I'm really trying to get into (or rather, trying to get friends into) is Altered TCG... as it's not a combat oriented TCG.. so good for kids, family, and non-wargamers.... Then, honestly, Star Wars: Unlimited is really good... super fast games, the starter boxes (2 decks) are great, and the new set is pretty fun.. set 1 is great (and getting reprinted).. set 2 maybe is a bit gimmicky.. but set 3 is great too.

I do quite a bit of 3d printing. Semi commercial basis. And with basic precautions have HD no issues. Friend of mine found that washing in steaming hot water actually caused eye issues, so if you do that wear eye protection. Steam carries the product up into your face.

About Vallejo. Many people, especially Americans, dont realize the lasting effects of the financial crisis of 2008 that their scumbag banksters caused, especially in Southern Europe. Throw in the Pandemic and the ongoing Wars (thanks State Department and Foreign Office!) and the situation for many people is an ongoing financial wasteland. On which the large companies base their claim for more and more austerity and ''patience''. The workers at Vallejo work for a brand that produces luxury products (yes, model and art paint is a luxury, its not bread), going around the whole world with a tremendous success, while they work in a rat hole for basic salary or just a bit more than that, facing a grimdark future. Many will say that we should boycot Vallejo products. NO!!! That would only throw water in the mill of the suits that bought the company and run it like a galley. They will say that any attempt of demanding your rights results in the closure of the company, so you better sit down like a good boy/girl and suck it, waiting for the benevolence of the management. I say we should do the opposite. Order even more Vallejo products, make them having a tone of unfulfilled orders, with their resellers flooding their email servers asking for delivery dates, calling them and drive them crazy. Cause the suits the one thing they hate even more from losing money is having a pot of money right in front of them but out of reach no matter how much they stretch their arms. This is the fastest way to capitulate to the fair demands of the workers of the company and get down from their pink cloud. Its obvious that the workers do not wish to drive the company to the ground. They just want a fair compensation and better working conditions. Also when they say ''harassment'' its probably not what the woke neo-liberal Americans think. Its not about milking your lizzard in the wrong WC. They obviously mean the old traditional harassment from the management to the workers who speak up to their ''betters''.

My main i love to play as in new groups is a kobold barbarian/rogue named Nisk. He is a zealot assassin of Thor, he's lost his voice due to his throat being slit in his backstory, and he weilds a one handed maul (custom weapon based on mjornir 1d8 + Str. Mod throwable 30/60) and a shield made out of adamantine. He also carries daggers and a +1 shortsword for sneak attack opportunities. He's also unreasonably freighted of horses.
