Thank you Alexander, I have a fairly old 217 which I bought from an ex manufacturer, just recently had it serviced, it had been so long since I had used it I had forgotten how to thread it, thanks to you it reminded me . I'm not keen on it for light weight work, but brilliant when it comes to medium to heavy fabrics, I look forward to seeing more of your videos, my machine I love the most is a Bernina industrie 850, I bought in 1974, and has sewn many many projects. from toys to bridal wear. 3:50 You missed something... Before threading the thread between the plates, it must be wrapped under the lower pin. It is located at the bottom of the tensioner reel. I discovered them myself by accident.

very nice explanations! I have this machine and have always wondered how to do double needle work. I had heard it possible and was always looking for the the 287WH compatible dual needle but could never find! How does that work? Threading the 217 with heavier thread for sail material using both tension fasteners has proven to provide a better more consistent stich for me.... anybody else have this experience???

Do you have any help on installing an industrial 4-thread cone holder for a Juki industrial serger? I got it all put together except I find no way to attach the bent rod that goes out to hole threads out front of machine?
@kelseyparker49872 жыл бұрын
question: why do you not thread through the second tension nest? what is it there for? i use this machine at work and we have ours threaded completely differently--using both tension nests. the threading looks incorrect to my eye, but when i tried threading your way, the stitching was terrible and basically all dropped stitches. the thing is, the way we have it threaded, while the stitching comes out nicely with few or no dropped stitches, the thread feed is so tight that the thread will snap if you try to pull it. something is wrong! any ideas?
@AlexanderDyer2 жыл бұрын
The second tensioner is for double needle sewing so unless you are sewing with two needles you only need one. When you thread the machine differently you will have to reset your tension to get a good stitch. Check out my video on thread tension. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpLbYYWKeNaMis0

I just bought a Adler 217 very clean, which is fact a Bernina and another knock off was Chandlier 217. I found a Bernina 217 with 13 cams ,reader, double needle holder and 40 bobbins for $525. The machine looks rough but I felt getting extra parts with cams and reader was worth the purchase. In your opinion was that a wise purchase?

Hi Alexander ! how can i know if i buy it 2nd that it is good and will i be able to maintance this machine - are there still parts for change and mechanics that know this machine? is it good for sewing very delicate clothes and heavier clothes like denim? is it good for sewing heavy duty stuff like bags, webbings and lots of layer (army stuff or leather industries) ? Is the fact that it has zigzag and double needle options makes the straigh stitch less good or you can say this machine is has the same skill as a industrie machine that specialiazed the straigth stitch ? sorry for my bad english.

Hello, i own one of this but searching the web i find that there might be few version of those, my parts on my machine look less modern (tension disks, lever guard and more), my machine is has diffrent color (more brown) and on the needle plate it is wrriten 287WH not like yours "130 needle size". i also couldnt put there any needle above 110 size. i also don't know if i can put the decorative disks on the back of this machine. but really of all of those whats annoying me the most is not being able to put up to 130 size needle. why are those diffrents ?

That machine is beautiful. What brand of portable machine would you recommend for sewing duck fabric (or similar weight, non-upholstery fabric) for slipcovers? I got a Juki TL-2010Q. It’s a quilting machine but it handles the layers of fabric very well. But it only does a straight stitch and I’d like to be able to finish my seams with the same machine instead of using a serger. Non- industrial sergers don’t really handle thicker layers well.

I have a machine like that but the foot is missing and somebody is going to buy from me @ 200.00 dollar is that a good price to sell it?😢😢
@AlexanderDyer9 ай бұрын
You could purchase a new foot for it. Try searching on eBay. There is some junk and there is some good so just keep that in mind when trying to choose a quality part. Price and quality of listing and seller rating can help in that regard. I machine that is complete and functioning will bring more money than one that won't sew and if it does not have a foot, it won't sew. Hope this helps in whatever you decide to do.

I like your view of threading the Bernina 217 however.....you did not show how to thread the bobbin? I can't make it have tension...…..Whats the secret?
@AlexanderDyer6 жыл бұрын
There is an adjustment screw. Tighten for more tension and loosen for less. 1/4 or 1/8 screw rotation adjustment is all that should be attempted at once. Also I set my bobbin tension on this particular machine much lighter than any of my other machines but your mileage may vary. Look for a new video on bobbin loading for this machine soon. Thanks for your question.

Very nice machine. Does this machine or all large sewing machines have a like an oil pan? Is it possible to find these here is in the USA? Thank you for the information. Have a nice day.
@AlexanderDyer6 жыл бұрын
Sewing machines with automatic lubrication have "oil pans". This machine is manually lubricated and so no oil pan but will benefit from a drip pan which is basically a shield for errant drips. Yes they are available in the US on the second hand market. Mine will be available next week. Thank you.
@shakedinbar29606 жыл бұрын
How much does a machine like that worth today, are they making them anymore? How can you choose a machine with all the types of machine in this world?
@AlexanderDyer6 жыл бұрын
Industrial Zig Zag machines tend to cost more than their straight stitch cousins. Their are brands of Industrial machines that are still making zig zags but I don't think that Bernina does. To choose you should first decide on what it is you wants to sew. Then you can search for a machine that has the features you want to sew those things.

@AlexanderDyer9 ай бұрын
Great for garments but not something I would recommend for leather. Of course it depends on what you mean by leather but in general if you are going to sew leather seams then this is not what I would recommend. For leather and upholstery I recommend a triple feed sewing machine. I have lots of videos on the subject if you care to research it further.
