An Óskar for Húsavík

On Feb 9, 2021, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for the 93rd Academy Awards®. Fifteen songs were announced for the Original Song category. Among the songs announced was 'Husavik' from the Netflix film 'Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga'.
It is unlikely that a village the size of Húsavík has ever started its own Oscar campaign, but in these extraordinary times, we see a unique opportunity to revitalize our town and its tourism through this film and the song 'Husavik'. Apart from this unusual campaign, we are now also working to build a museum dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest in Húsavík, that will open in summer 2021.

I was happy to read that Will Ferrell would get very emotional during the performance of the song while filming. The Director would ask him if he was ok and Will just said it was such a beautiful song. I still can't get through it without a little build up of liquid forming.

I really think this song deserves an Oscar nomination. It's just as beautiful as anything Disney has put out recently, if not more to be honest. When the movie was released, it was even charting on Spotify. Catchy yes, but it's actually really well-composed, the lyrics are heartfelt, and the amazing singing just takes the song to a whole other level. The other contenders should watch out for those elves. Sometimes they go too far!

I'm not sure how often or if a campaign video has ever been made for an Oscar song. I love Husavik song and have it as the best song of 2020 period! I'm very happy Molly Sanden was involved with the vocals. This is the only winner for me. I asked my bookmaker for odds on this winning to get an early price but no luck. I'm guessing people in Husavik are proud of this song? Side note: I see on the leaderboard the UK were doing well as usual lol.

i am from slovakia, from the small historical town called sabinov (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabinov ). in 1965, the movie called "The shop on the main street" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shop_on_Main_Street ) was shot in my town and it got Oscar for the best foreign language film. also, in the town center you can find the statue of oscar made by the local artist (360oscar.panoramyslovenska.sk/ ). as a person who spent some time on iceland and who watched the movie i do strongly support this campaing and i do say - afram island, afram husavik, afram oscar !!! )))

When it was first announced, I was just happy 'Husavik' was acknowledged, but not expecting it to win (given that it was the outsider). Still, with all the traction it's been getting recently, it's very possible. I swear, if 'Husavik' does somehow win the Oscar, I will have 'Jaja Ding Dong' on repeat in my car for the whole day, and that's a promise. 😂
