I did like Húsavík when I stayed there for 2 days. Had an amazing experience watching humpback whales in the bay off Húsavík. It was so special seeing these magnificent creatures. Then had some excellent fish & chips from the shop on the harbour side. Would highly recommend going whale watching off Húsavík.

You don't sound like a tourism brochure; you sound like someone with a very deep love and affection for your country. I think that's wonderful! I don't understand people who do not--regardless of where they hail from. I'm glad the football guys got their bus stop back! 🤣🤣

Thanks for the interesting facts and stories! I've been two times for holidays on iceland, both times visiting Húsavik for several days and I love it. Not only because of the beautyful landscape, the people and naturally the whales but also because of 1. with 'Saltvik' there is a very good place for tourists starting riding tours with the famous icelandic horses for 1 hour to several days, 2. with 'Geoseas' you have one if the best spas on iceland in Húsavik. And 3. Husavik has it's own Airport, so you can reach it in a short time from Reykjavik. I'm sorry for all the people who does'nt leave the ring road to discover this place.

Honestly I think Daði & Gagnamagnið stood a massive chance of winning with 'Think About Things' had Covid not stopped Eurovision in 2020! His follow-up song just didn't have the same massive meme-like wave riding into the 2021 contest, sadly. Iceland is on my bucket list and Husavik is part of that too - I loved the movie and added the town to my list after that. Whales, northern lights, beautiful scenery, beautiful buildings and, I imagine, warm and welcoming people... what more could you need? :)

Husavik is a beautiful town and it has a beautiful church in the center of the town. I also like Husavik because of the whale watching. I went by Asbyrgi and in there is a forest and a small lake. A nice hiking path and with some birds. A unique area for Iceland. My wife and I did our first house back ride in the Husavik area. I like my visits to Godafoss is also in that area. Another great video. Will be in Iceland next week. Linda and Ben

Húsavík WAS my hometown for 8 years, from 2006-2014! It is a beautiful and interesting place, and the whale watching is beyond par. I also had the privilege in my last 3 years of crossing Tjörnes once a week to work near Kòpasker and in Raufarhöfn. There has been so much development in the 10 years since I moved away to Scotland, some of which I saw when I visited in 2018. Áfram Húsavík! Takk æðislega fyrir, Gylfi! ❤

We LOVED your video and also your humor injected via the Eurovision movie, which we have seen multiple times. We got hooked on Eurovision a few years ago after finding out about it from German friends, so we started catching up by watching prior years' competitions on KZbin. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Husavik way back in 1991 during our first hiking trip to Iceland. We ended up spending more time than planned because the brakes on our small tour bus had major problems. While our driver and guide went to get the brakes fixed, we all wandered around Husavik in rainy and rather chilly conditions - a true Icelandic day! We spent time at the harbor and watched the fishing boats come in and watched as the fisherman brought in their catches of the day. We remember thinking how hardy they were being out in the water on such a day since we were freezing just standing and watching them on the dock! We warmed up (multiple times) in the beautiful church and in the small bakery/cafe (it may have been the only one available in 1991). We and our fellow travelers kept seeing each other in the cafe or church throughout the day ;-) Because most of the day was taken with brakes repair, we lost our opportunity to visit Grimsey. We definitely want to return to Husavik and Akureyri and visit some new northern towns plus Grimsey in the near future. There are always many many reasons to keep returning to Iceland! Thank yo Gylfi!

Just like most Oscar awards it went to a movie that most people won't remember and won't like years down the line, but people will remember Eurovision Fire Saga, and the song that was nominated. It entertained the masses. The critics won't like it but it brought joy to the average person. I can't wait to one day visit Husavik, and I hope that there's a place called Jaja Ding Dong when I go.

So Husavik is a Twin Peaks? Back in the 1990s director David Lynch turned parts of several towns in Western Washington into the dreamy town he named Twin Peaks. Fans from all over world come and visit the filming locations. For me it's easy to visit the locations, they're all an hour or less drive for me. Husavik is too far away. Oh, I loved the Eurovision movie!

Well, you've done it. Back in 2009 I bought a Sigur Ros DVD called Heima. I knew from that moment I watched that DVD that I had to visit Iceland, so in 2010 (not long after the eruption) I brought my family for a tour of the south of Iceland. Now you've convinced me to come back and visit Husavik this time. I'm going to come out mid September to try and catch both northern lights and whale watching. Any helpful tips would be great. I'll be coming in from Minnesota, USA. Thanks for the great videos, I look forward to each one you do.

That Oscars performance was so beautiful. Do you know if the northern lights in the sky during it were really there, or were they edited in?
@JustIcelandic
@JustIcelandic 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know actually, it it was an edit, they might have used more of them or tuned them more up, but they don't look fake since the camera used was not set up for aurora so it's always a bit faded out since the camera was set up for the stage first and foremost

The landscape shown at 4:10 which the narrator says geologists explain was created by huge floods..that landscape is tremendously similar to the channeled scab lands in the state of Washington USA. Those areas in Washington were, of course, created by massive ice age floods.

Asbyrgi Canyon reminds me of the Grand Coullee and Dry Falls in central Washington State created by gigantic, repeated, floods when ice dams broke: Wikipedia: "Dry Falls is a 3.5-mile-long (5.6 km) scalloped precipice with four major alcoves, in central Washington scablands. This cataract complex is on the opposite side of the Upper Grand Coulee from the Columbia River, and at the head of the Lower Grand Coulee, northern end of Lenore Canyon.[1] According to the current geological model, catastrophic flooding channeled water at 65 miles per hour (105 kph) through the Upper Grand Coulee and over this 400-foot (120 m) rock face at the end of the last glaciation. It is estimated that the falls were five times the width of Niagara Falls,[2]: 116  with ten times the flow of all the current rivers in the world combined.[3]"
