Hi thanks for your vids, i am not a pro but a careful clean painter and intend painting as a side business. I'm looking for the best most time efficient order in which to paint a room - ceiling walls skirting - using frog tape ...and with second coats ? its the drying times that I'm unsure of how to approach - is starting a second room the way to go while the first room dries ? - doing all skirting in multiple rooms first ? Here are my steps for 1 room - please re order as you would do it ? 1. skirting-wall junctions - clean out & caulk dry time 1 hr 2. skirting & door architraves - paint gloss (dulux high gloss) dry time 24hr (Dulux Brand) 3. Ceiling 1st coat (slight overlap to wall) dry time 2 hr 4. Ceiling 2nd coat (slight overlap to wall) dry time 2 hr 5. Wall 1st coat (frog tape to ceiling and skirting etc) dry time 2 hr 6. Wall 2nd coat cut in close to clean lines without tape ? dry time 2 hr Thanks really appreciate the advice. Pat

You should do a video using frog tape with and without caulk and show the difference

Is there is a difference though? The advent of frog tape had made tape caulking obsolete, hasn't it?

It’s only useful if the surface isn’t smooth. In England I use tesa or q1 tape to mask my woodwork when it’s done and have had minimal bleeds on months, and they was only because the tape slightly moved. You can see on this video when he removes the skirting tape that the one thick coat he did didn’t cover sufficiently. Stick the tape down, apply two coats and when it’s dry peel the tape. No issues at all

@@ryankmcgrathsr lol go try yourself! It’s all about the texture of the surface not the adhesion. If every surface was silky smooth yes you don’t need caulk

Hey Chris, I was wondering, with a color that dark, how many coats do you recommend because I saw that you pull the tape on the first coat...or do you cut-in free-hand during the second coat?

Hi Chris.....I'm not a professional painter, and I will be the first to acknowledge the chasm of experience and knowledge between us. So, I ask humbly...have you ever tried the technique of the Sureline pads with the rollers on them, but instead of loading them by dipping them into the paint, you keep a squirter bottle full of paint that you load it up with. The squirter bottle makes the paint transfer to the pad quick and neat and, most importantly, off the rollers. I'm not a pro, so I'm unable to cut in nearly as fast as you, but I do have a hand steadier than most, so I can do a pretty decent job. By using the pad as I describe, I probably am 5 times faster, and while not quite the crispness of tape, it's still pretty damn good. Have you ever tried a method like that?

I have tried them… nightmare. Can’t get a speck of paint on the little wheels. So even if perfect I could Never get the edge to line up to the ceiling or wall with different color that butts against each other. I’m a woman who paints her own house including 2 story stairwells lol. I don’t know if I would do that again I was scared to death hahaha I learned how to Paint from this channel and the best luck I have had was following the hand cut in and roll Method with a GOOD brush and non box store Paint. I still make newbie mistakes but even Profesh painters/handymen ask Me if I am A Profesh painter. Which I’m NOT nor am I artistic nor overly particular nor Very patient. Just wanted to share my experience :)

@@gummybears-n-crime1317 For me, that's where the squirter bottle of paint comes in for loading the paint. For me, at least, it was easy to keep the rollers clean. To each their own. I'm looking forward to his video.

I have learned how to paint from you! But question - my small roller after cutting in gets a little messy and sometimes hits the ceiling. What am I doing wrong? Too close Or not using enough paint during The cut in? (Thus feeling like I need To roll over What I brushed in Vs blending the line?)thx!

why don't you use sheet metal or this cover to paint with a paint sprayer ?? In Poland and Europe, many painters do this, except for those who glue tapes or use a special roller to cut off the color - cut about 2 mm from the edge

Why use frog tape if your caulking anyways? Cheap blue tape works fine in this situation plus it’s more rigid and easier to use. The frog technology is nice if used properly but caulking it negates the need for the extra cost

I thought the whole purpose of Frog Tape was to prevent paint bleed through. Why have to caulk?
@upcoming

Caulk is there to make a smoother transition between the surfaces, it hides shadow lines that could otherwise be seen.

That's what I thought too, but then I started thinking that maybe it's light reflection on wet paint. Even on black paint when it's wet you can see white reflections from a certain angle.

Anything is possible . I have learned from Chris but seen a few things there I couldn’t agree with. I know what the finished product really looks like with one coat with that dark of a color. Not to mention cutting a receptacle in and letting it dry then one coating over it. I also see no need to paint one wall in sections . Just my opinion though. I like my line straight! I watch for high end paint jobs . Thanks man.
