In this video on what I call our HERB road tour, not only did we enjoy a couple healthy rounds of freshly picked Otaheite apples after running into another nest of Duct flowers on the side of the road, I happen to meet the duppy, who showed us up to 20 interesting and usual Jamaican medicinal herbs!
These include:
▶ Fever grass
▶ Vervain
▶ Shama Macka
▶ Guava Leaf
▶ Trumpet Leaf
▶ Arrow Root
▶ Wild Lap or Wild App (Verified Correct name is Wild Hops)
▶ Never die
▶ Strong Back
▶ Spanish Needle
▶ Cowfoot leaf
▶ Wild Thyme
▶ Dandelion
▶ Baseeda Tree.. and the most interesting of all..
▶ The Fits Weed!
And there was a lot more, including our 'coconut moment', watch, enjoy and learn.
By the way, did you know that Jamaican apples have some amazing health benefits?

***How can any Jamaican ever say that they are hungry!!!! Food is bountiful everywhere!!! Far better than processed crap or stale imported stuff found in supermarkets*** As a JamaicanCanadian living in Canada since the age of 5, I will be heading back to Jamaica to live at the later part of this year. My family here cannot understand how I can still have such a strong connection with Jamaica but...MY ROOTS I'LL NEVER FORGET! This river walk and roadside fruit harvest are things that I remember profoundly even after living here for over 40 years. This is Jamaica, my Jamaica, the land of my birth ♥️♥️♥️♥️🇯🇲🇨🇦🇯🇲

24:13 that herb is known as chandon banie or culantro. It has the same flavor of cilantro and can be used as a substitute. It is very prevalent in Trinidadian dishes, they cook almost everything with it. Some people called it shadow baani.

FITS WEED.. known in Trinidad and Tobago as SHADO BENI or CHADO BENI also called BANDANIA used as a fresh seasoning to season different meats and wild meats.. Especially used in the preparation of curry dishes when added it gives the food a very nice flavor . It can also be blended to make a sauce or added to your grinded fresh green seasoning to flavor different dishes.. I enjoyed watching your herbal tour video it was very informative.. @24:11 Its a herb called Shadow- benni, used to season meats for cooking alongside other herbs especially in curry foods. Thats what enhances the great taste. Also we use it in chow, mango, pineapple etc, the leaves are chopped or minced the same way before adding. I heard boiling the root its used for high blood pressure or diabeties to name a few.🇹🇹

D long leaf smell-bad bush name is chadon beni, shadow beni, fit weed(Tobago), spirit wee(Jamaica), bhandania(Trinidad), culantro(Mexico), recao(Phillipines)... In Trinidad and Tobago, most meals are not complete unless this is added as seasoning... Boil the root for help with cold symptoms... If you know Cilantro, you may find that this Fitweed/Culantro/chadon beni is like a more stronger version of the same Cilantro flavour

I learned about hops as an ingredient in malts and beer when I came here to the U.S. I was always thinking, only if hops grow in Jamaica, I could make my own. Homade beer when I go back home. Now I know where to find them. They grow like crazy in a field near my home.

Fits Weed...I remember that from when I was a kid...now I know we use to refer to people who have frequent seizures as "fits". I wonder if it can cure epilepsy 🤔.

Oh my goodness, I've always wanted to try a Jamaican apple. I asked my aunt when I was in Jamaica in 2019. She said you get them in the January/February. I was in Jamaica between August and October. I'm going to Jamaica in February just to try a Jamaican apple.

@@gloriarobinson1869 Yes , it taste like calaloo , the older people including my mum used to tell us whatever goats and cows eat can be eaten . There's something in those animals that causes them to know ; if they smell it and don't eat it , it is poisonous . Thanks for responding .
