My mom is a family physician and has recently been talking about wanting to learn more herbalism so that she can also offer more natural recommendations for patients who want/need it. I’m a medical illustrator and gardening enthusiast, and I’m really hoping to be able to get more into this with my mom. I appreciate when there are more scientific explanations for herbalism as well since that tends to be how I like to learn things.

I got halfway through, and decided I needed to make a second comment. I am a mom/caregiver of a 30 year old, diagnosed with Fredreich"s Ataxia. We just passed the third anniversary of him being at home with us, again. He had been in a group home, but, no one will ever lock me away from my son, so now he's at home. I applaud your faith, young lady. It's a big step, to walk away from the system, and do the righteous thing. You will be abundantly blessed, for this action. I have been suffering severe burnout. You reminded me that I need to be grateful, and gracious. You have given me a great gift, today. Thank you.

Hi Kaylee, thank you❣ I took care of my future Mother In Law Thelma who was told she had only 2 months to live. She had esophageal cancer & I was unaware that she had a dead lung when we moved her into our home. I am a (jack of many trades & a master of none) seamstress & I decorated my workroom in an English garden fashion to make it as cheerful as possible. I was her 23/7 caregiver, Hospice sent a woman to watch Thelma every day for 1 hour so I could do the shopping, mail, errands etc. I cooked & pureed enough food to last 4 months & vacuumed packed & dated it & filled my freezer with things I knew she'd enjoy. We had an indoor outdoor Atrium with my numerous potted roses, corn plant and patio umbrella table & seats. Under my care she was getting better and by the 4th month that evening when Irene came back to check on Thelma she called me into the room and asked me to listen to Thelma's lung, I heard the lung making the swooshing noise & told her it's her lung working. Irene looked at me and told me, "That lung hasn't worked in 6 years & that it was a first for her books."- I was surprised as I didn't know about it. Irene asked me what I was doing & I told her Thelma sits outside every day for a couple hours in either the Atrium or the back screened in porch (with a beautifully lush green elkhorn fern & other plants, and a white trellis I made with realistic Ivy & red flowers and we had full 6' hedges for shade snd privacy and we had a couple of chairs & a table, they're the places she smoked & would get indirect sunlight & fresh air daily and the meals I made her all had organic vegetables, she was eating 16 oz if soup for dinner nightly & I believe I made her fruit smoothies for breakfast because that's what we had in the mornings. The most important thing Thelma was getting every day & night was love. She loved watching me play with my young Amazon parrot Crystal Lynn in the morning after breakfast & again after dinner before Crystal Lynn was put to bed. Onthe 6th month Thelma basically stopped eating, only 1/4" of her soup would be eaten. That was it, I tried to tell her there would come a time where she woukd want to eat, but wouldn't be able to, so enjoy your meals while you can. She wouldn't listen, she lived for 7.5 months. After the funeral I designed & made my wedding dress, made my 3 tiered wedding cake that told the story of how we met & I decorated the church & embellished my red roses bouquet with pearls, seed beads etc. I catered the food & my oldest sister put the red toses & baby's breath in all the vases & placed one on each table. I produced our wedding & drafted our vows. All tge bridesmaids had the pattern I picked out & the fabric a pale blue embossed looking silk like material, it had to be home made. We had a red, white, & blue wedding. It was after this that I started doing all the research I could on cancer. I had nearly all of Dr. Hulda R. Clarks books on cancer & read them all & learned about Dr. Lorraine Day's book/CD Cancer doesn't scare me anymore. Her survival story. Then my online research on anything I could find out about cancer. Now I know how to treat squemous cell cancer with my own homemade salve which doesn't leave any scars behjnd & draws the cancer to the surface & it's gone Bloodroot is amazing with comfrey salve. Now I'm learning everything I can about herbs. I mKe my own Elderberry herb, bark, juice & make gummies & syrup & my bubby wants cough drops. So they'll be being made next. Thank you so much I've started getting some herbal books; Tosemary Gladstar's Herbal Recipes, The Modern Herbal Dispensatory A Medicine - Making Guide and one to pick up. I have the Herbal Medicine Maker's Handbook A Home Manual on my Amazon list. I decided to get a few of these books assp yo have them & put them to good use to help as many as I csn. My hubby's 82 & still works 40 hours a week. He's out lived both of his parents years due to his diet and the herbal supplements I have him doing, I'm Convinced beyond a a doubt that our Holy Almighty Messiah has put this fire in my heart to learn as much as I can. I want to help people who are suffering to live a healthy life. You're an inspiration 🤗🥰🙆‍♀️❣

@@DebbieCWellness I bought some dried bloodroot (very expensive if you can'tfirage for it yourself, grows wild in VA & PA), ground it to a powder, added Dr. Christopher's Comfrey Ointment (just barely melted), CBD oil a few drops, some organic Castor oil just enough of these items to make into a thick paste & applies it to the area(s) in question & held it in place with Press N Seal & kept it on until it fell off or became dried out ( it never dried out because I used Press N Seal). Repeat 2 - 3 days after you notice nothing left but clear skin, you want to make sure you don't leave anything behind to reform. I'm not a Dr & I tried this & it worked for my husband, he couldn't go to a surgeon due to it being so close to his eye. He had had a large squamous cell cancer form on top of his head & I was with him throughout the surgery & have photos of everything. He healed very well and the area the Mohs (sp?) Surgery on his leg healed remarkably well & his normal flesh tone came back, the surgeon was surprised. The surgeons Mohs surgery site went a dark grey. He showed it to us before my husband had to have the surgery on his head. I hope this helps. I didn't have any recipe to go by, just used what U thought would help the most. Now I'm takjng a home course on herbology with really good books, some I learned on the YT channel Honeystead. Its a great channel! Please let me know how you do. Thank you 🙋‍♀️.

@@kayyb Thank you very much.🙌😚🙆‍♀️💋 I try hard to help those that are dropped through the cracks and sent home to die when there is lots of God given herbs to help us live out healthy lives. If we all share freely what our Holy Almighty Messiah/Creator left on this earth to help us take care of ourselves, none would be without & we would all live in harmony. We need to relearn His laws;Leviticus 11 & Deuteronomy 14, for a 3rd witness Job 14-4, and obey them. The good deeds & kind acts we do on a daily & nightly basis is what will go before us before Him during our life review. Our Holy Almighty Messiah watches over His flock that obey Him & makes their enemies to be at peace with them. It doesn't have to be this way. We all need to do our own homework and learn as much as possible. 1 Samuel 8 is what got us into this mess, 2 Chronicles 7 :14 is the only answer. The return of Christ is the only other option we have. Praise our Holy Almighty Messiah/Creator for blessing us with angels to Guard over His scattered flock & report to Him of how we are serving Him in this life. Maranatha ❤ 🐑 🩸🩸🩸✝️ 🤍 🕊👑 💫🙋‍♀️

The best advice I ever got was, yes, learn the plants growing outside your door. Learn them well, one at a time. Take a summer with one. Learn to understand through taste and smell. After some years go by and you've understood dozens of plants.. you'll slowly realize that you only really need a handful of plants to cover every need. You'll see very good herbalists in India have only ONE herb, prepared in various ways depending on the need.

And understand herbalism is not x remedy for y problem. Each person has a unique constitution (example, my daughter is dry and cool, other family members might be damp, dry, hot, cold). A "hot" person doesn't need hot remedies like ginger or garlic. Studying systems of the body is important too.

Great overview on how to approach the beginner stage of becoming an herbalist. Very helpful! At 56 years old, I'm finally ready to becoming serious with it. This was the best and most informative video I have seen on getting started in herbalism. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in a step-by-step process that was not only helpful to me as a beginner, but also so incredibly inspiring. I struggle with that fear factor of jumping into unknown territory, but you have encouraged me to step out into my front yard, and have provided me with resources to get started, and for that I want to say, THANK YOU!!! I also appreciated how you addressed that herbs cannot do all of the work for a person, we have to individually take responsibility and action in living healthier lifestyles for herbalism to truly be effective. It is beautiful to witness how the Lord works through people when they obey and follow their calling. May you and your family forever be abundantly blessed!

I have been made fun of by friends, had looks that would make you cringe when I tell of the medicinal properties of my tinctures and salves. But I am not stopping. I am moving forward, I learn more and more every day. Plantain salve has eased the skin eczema of a friend. She was burning and itching and miserable. She is now a believer. God gave us the knowledge and the plants to heal ourselves. Why ever would we not use them. So I use them mostly for myself and tell others about them. @@TheHoneystead We have a few squirrels in our plum tree. My father passed away a little over three months after my mom passed away last year. I was his primary caregiver up until the last month of his life. He moved into the hospital and, about the last week, hospice. I have much respect/admiration for caregivers. He was utterly bedridden while I cared for him. I must say my job was wonderful and worked with me. I took time away to care for him and visit my mom daily. It was a massive shock for my brother and me since they both were very active. They are still missed; however, we have plenty of beautiful memories. I did have to take care of myself afterward, and I still am. I’ve always been the nurturing type, so I have to remind myself to stop and tend to myself. I am getting better. I have Medical Herbalism. I have a scientific mind also. Excellent book, and I highly recommend it to others.

I love your videos, and your passion for health and the well-being of others shows! I understand now why I've been so drawn to you: you're like my daughter. She has been a PCT for 14 years now, she works part-time at a local hospital to receive benefits, but Monday through Thursday, she cares for a dear lady close to us. She absolutely loves the elderly. And I see those same qualities in you. This'll be long, I'm afraid! I wanted to tell my journey. So, I love flowers, especially wild ones. I would always wistfully look at them whooshing by the car every time we went somewhere. But never took time to explore or study. Then, 2020 hit. I got STIR-CRAZY! I HAD to do something. So, I started walking through my woods. I started noticing more and more flowers, and I went out there several times a week, so I noticed new ones. I found a wildflower group geared to my state, and joined it. Then it became fun to identify and post the flowers I found on there, and there were always people kind enough to help if I couldn't, or to correct if I misidentified one. When we got to October, I was still doing it! And that's when I saw a beautiful little speck of purple in my yard. I went back and pulled on it, and discovered a beautiful plant called Self-heal. I was excited, because even my identification guide told me it was used for healing by the Native Americans. That’s what started me on my journey. I wasn't alien to using herbs, but I just bought them from a neighbor who sold excellent quality tinctures. That seems to be how I am. I find one, I learn, I craft a product and see if it helps. Self-heal was a super find, and we use it internally and externally in salves. This year, I harvested new teasel roots to make a tincture for pain. I'm pushing 60, and my husband is 62 this year, do we have lots of aches and pains. I found St. John's Wort growing wild. I've made goldenrod tincture for allergies. This year, I started a medical herb garden. It's been quite a trip. And I'm glad I found your channel, because it is very helpful to me. God bless you and your family!

I found and purchased the 1914 edition of the 1400+ page book Health and Longevity by Joseph G. Richardson, M.D. I can tell you that we have lost so much knowledge / information. My nursing background (and radiography and laboratory technician / technologist) is critical care; surgical ICU (open hearts, LVADs, organ transplants, trauma 1, CNS, cancers - commanos, whipples --), pediatrics, procedural care (all areas, preferring the OR), pediatrics - including cancer and surgery, and hospital supervisor including the morgue for 2 counties. I worked in these roles in SE FL, SE AK island, SE TN. From inner city to frontier to rural hospitals. Oh, and clinical adjunct teaching at UAA in the frontier (island) setting. Ugh! I'm old...Working with the natives is most eye opening. I had the chance to learn from a NP on the Seminole reservation in my hometown, Hwd, FL and later with the native clinic in Metlakatla, AK. Working on my NP to hopefully work with natives and veterans. Wish me luck!! I am truly hoping to incorporate herbalist naturalistic skills / knowledge into my practice!

I just listened to this, my first one of your videos while working in my garden. I’m learning to grow veggies too, but am most interested in the herbs. Plus they seem to grow better for me anyway! Loved all the tips & also the references.. I may want to add them to my growing library. I look forward to seeing your other videos. 👏👏👏

I adore you..I have been watching another woman on her YT channel that has been into herbalism for many years..she has her own shop that she sells but never, ever mentions it or tries to sell you anything..she is a no non sense , straight upfront herbalist that saids in every video YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH to do this with so many making it more complicated then it ever needed to be..I recently was going to pay to take a online herbal corse to become certified..I’m not kidding this same day she came on to do a video stating that there is no reason to pay anyone when it’s absolutely not valid in the USA …it’s NOT acknowledged..it’s not going to get you a job anywhere in the USA which is why I was going to pay $600 in the first place for the coarse to become certified. ..it’s all bogus..you can’t learn herbalism in 3-months..it takes years and years and years and still won’t know everything ..anyone can call themselves herbalist without paying for it in the USA..I have great respect for her and her honesty..learning herbalism by searching the internet and books is all in my opinion is all free knowledge..

Pardon me for being dramatic, but I felt like it was kismet that you showed Prescription for Nutritional Healing. I flipped through that book many times as a kid/teenager/young adult and my Dad has often used it as a reference, too. This channel is one of the ones that has inspired me to look more into herbalism and this just continues to show me I’m on the right track. Thank you!

OMG! You are such an inspiration to me! My husband and I are starting our homestead in upstate New York (we are in our 60's). We are making something from nothing, basically over 80 acres of field and forest. I am having a great time identifying plants, I found some yarrow that I plan on transplanting and harvested some red clover that I currently have in my dehydrator. We picked some wild raspberries and there is so much more that we haven't even discovered yet! Thank you for sharing your favorite books, I plan on expanding my library. I plan on taking an online course through the Herbal Academy this summer.

I have found you in the last week and instantly subscribed. Your channel, you and your Mum are such a blessing 🙏 I am very new to foraging and herbs. I am in the UK but we have pretty much all the same herbs and wild flowers I have come across so far! Started off with finding self heal in my garden and was blown away as I have never been shown it or even knew what it was. Now I am identifying and learn about everything I can find, I now have a few tinctures and infused oils for salves around the house 😊. Our father in heaven has created such an amazing world for us to discover and heal ourselves with. Have a blessed week🙏

Love all this! My process into learning about herbalism is similar! Late winter, I started a google spreadsheet and used 4 different books, pubmed, and healthline, to start learning about some of the herbs I'm most interested in using medicinally and taking notes from each source, so I could cross compare all my sources before deciding if an herb would be beneficial for my family. My list has close to 30 herbs and I made it through about a third of them before spring kicked in, and then the gears shifted to outside work. I'm getting ready to make my first echnicea and elderberry tinctures in the coming week so we're ready for the fall and winter, and I am looking forward to finishing my herb database this fall and winter. Found your channel while sitting out by the fire in March while boiling maple sap, and have been a regular ever since! Thanks for your time and knowledge! Best wishes!

I'm so very grateful for everything you and your mom share I have learned so much from you guys! I have big dreams of starting a herbalism business eventually in the next few years as I have been a stay at home mom for the last ten years and just started working at a nursery because I just love teaching people gardening and working with plants! My main goal for next year is to get us chickens and hopefully having my own bees! I've had a small apothecary garden at home that I've been growing for the past seven years but by next year my plan is to expand by much more. I'm so excited and have been making all the lists of things I want to add that are new and stuff I'm already growing that I want more of. We have quite a large veggie garden as well and I love to preserve all the time things I can! I'm so inspired by how you share your love of herbalism. It's encouraged me to teach more of my family the things I have learned as well and it feels so good when they see how well herbs can help them and all the things they can find and learn about themselves if they just look around their own properties! ❤

I appreciate you. I have a very nasty neighbor who you're either partying with or she sabotages you. Well, she has a friend in law enforcement who she told that I never fed my horse she always did. Not true but I have no way to fight these people. So they took my daughter's beloved horse of 14 years away. So through the grief and the overgrown pastures that I was overwhelmed in, I just wanted to curl up and sleep. Instead, I ran across foraging for herbs, which I've always been interested in but never pursued. I didn't know what I had...the horse was eating most of the medicinal and food stuff! I'm still grieving for her, but she has left me a legacy that can last the rest of my life. As for the neighbor...if she'd just stop stalking me I may be totally fine.

One of the things I share when were identifying plants , is to suggest they pick three herbs, maybe even look alikes…start in the spring and follow it thru it’s cycle. Learn where it grows, how much sun it needs.. what grows neat it, because those plants , which like the same soil, will be growing nearby. I feel as if if you learn them these way, the become part of you. Thanks for all you share. 😊 I love that you brought up multiple uses of individual plants, what we have called simples.. when to harvest which part and what each part is good for. This love of herbal medicine covers so many things, haha!
