An unhinged explanation of The Boy and the Heron

The Boy and the Heron is the latest film from Studio Ghibli. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki as a semi-autobiographical film, this animated movie explores some deep feelings of grief, loss, regret, and more. GREAT video, thank you for this. I’ve now seen so many interpretations of what it means to different people that I’ve kinda forgotten what I think it’s about lol. But this was a fascinating interpretation, and I think you’re definitely onto something as far as how he posits on how he’s impacted “the real world” outside of his art.

What's really beautiful about Miyazaki or more abstract art and filmmaking is that the viewer gets to take away what they want. I think I have a clear vision of what Miyazaki was thinking, but my opinion might lean more towards what I needed to take away from it. Regardless, I found the film fascinating and beautiful and I'll be revisiting it sometime down the line when it has an at-home release.

I just wish Hollywood/the film industry in general would just focus on making stories that need to be told like this Not just making films for a buck. There is so much heart missing from this world that when something like this comes along it stands out, purely because so much of the modern world has lost its heart and what it means to really live. I think thats what I also really loved about Soul

Very well told as usual Josh excellent analyzing yea I also didn't get it until the third act either or piece everything together until the third act I had Five Guys before I went to the theaters and all of that food made me go to sleep and took a very small cat nap because the movie was moving very slow but I woke up and was able to follow

I really liked this film and enjoyed it's great it's definitely not as great as Miyazaki's other films but it's still great yea that Heron was creepy I kept saying is it trying to form a Heron beak or a human mouth with it's human teeth 😀 very weird

The human teeth were a bit disturbing. I think there's a subreddit somewhere that has birds with human teeth and it's horrifying. It reminded me of that.

Interesting. I didn’t have much interest in this movie and now I really don’t want to see it if this is indeed the meaning behind it as I think I would feel seen. 😂I’m definitely the type who hides away in his own world and always feel like I have very little impact on the real world, although I do share any art I create online (if you can call it art) hoping someone will get some joy or inspiration out of it.

I have a different feeling about this now than I may have a few years ago. I'll never say what is the right or wrong way to live because that's up to each individual, but for me personally I love to be challenged with films like this. It motivates me to step out of my comfort zone, and in recent times I've tried to think in the same way that Miyazaki might be here. My time on this earth is only for a few decades and I don't want to look back and say that I didn't put my best foot forward in the ways I wanted to contribute to the world.
